"Good location / nice staff but small rooms"
We enjoyed a long weekend at this older OBX hotel. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the room was quite clean. However, it was very small. The bathroom was tiny, and it was hard to walk between the table and the couch. The location is very convenient, and the beach access was easy.

"Quick Stay"
I was able to check in early because my room was already cleaned. I was staying in town to participate in a race. The hotel staff gave me a goody bag of items to wish me luck on my run. I thought that was very sweet. The hotel does not have an elevator so I had to walk up 3 flights of stairs, but it wasn't that bad. The room was nice and the area was quiet. It was close to the beach and shopping. I enjoyed my stay.

"one night"
room was wet on carpet two to three feet in front of door. Mold smell. Bathroom had only on wall soap dispenser and none in the shower. No soap and no hair dryer. As to the water, I believe the door seal was bad or the window was left open because there was a large downpour before we checked in and probably caused the wet carpet. It was tough on my wife's allergies. I thought the lack of soap or shampoo was a little bad for a 3 star hotel. The bed was adequate but room was quite small.

Colonial Inn Motel

"Very nice motel on beach."
We arrived very early and were given early check-in on the spot. Staff was extremely responsive to our every request. The rooms are clean and furnished with the necessities for a nice beach getaway. The Colonial Inn is nothing fancy, but the place bends over backward to make sure guests are happy, from complimentary coffee and daily YMCA membership to a lovely deck overlooking the surf where guests gathered. This was our third stay at the Colonial, and it won't be our last. It's very conveniently located next to a fishing pier and close to restaurants (including one in the pier house). The bed was comfortable, the climate control did what we needed in the room, and it was a quiet stay. If you need luxury accommodations, look elsewhere. But in its class, the Colonial is excellent.

    Outer Banks Hotel Guide

The Outer Banks sit just off the coast of North Carolina. While the Outer Banks are much-loved for their wide expanses of beachfront and campgrounds, these barrier islands have also made their mark in history. From lost colonies to acting as a haven for pirates to playing host to the Wright Brothers’ first flight, the Outer Banks have something to offer everyone.

    The Banks Today

Today, the Outer Banks’ alluring past acts as an initial draw to visitors, and the beaches and dunes keep them coming back. Because of this, the Outer Banks are one of the top vacation areas in North Carolina. Outer Banks hotels in NC include bed and breakfasts, large chains, and family-run beachside motels.

    Atlantic Weather

While visiting the Outer Banks in the winter, you can expect a chill in the air and the occasional fierce storm. Temperatures range from 3 to 11 degrees Celsius. Since the islands butt up to the Atlantic Ocean, you may run into fierce winter winds. Summers see temperatures of 23 to 28 degrees Celsius. No matter what season you visit in, you’ll probably get a little bit of rain, as the Outer Banks receive some 8 to 10 cm per month.

    History and Mystery

Many visitors come to the islands just to relax, and you could easily make an entire vacation out of visiting the different beaches. If you’re looking for a more active vacation, climb the stairs to the top of the Hatteras Lighthouse, catch a glimpse of the wild horses on Corolla, or fly a kite on the same dunes where the Wright Brothers tested their airplane. To top off your trip, visit Roanoke Island, home of the “lost colony” where, in 1587, over 100 settlers simply disappeared in a mystery that endures to this day. No matter what you want to do during your visit, when you stay in one of the many Outer Banks hotels, you'll be able to relax on one island or use your accommodation as a jumping-off point to explore all of them.
