Question 3

Which area of Lake Placid is best to stay in for cheap hotels?

Accepted Answer

For travellers seeking cheap hotels in Lake Placid, focusing on areas slightly outside the immediate village centre can often yield more affordable accommodation options. While the village centre offers convenience, venturing just a little further out, or considering nearby towns, can reduce costs.

Solo travellers might find good value in the southern part of the village, particularly along Saranac Avenue (Route 86) towards Saranac Lake. This area features a mix of smaller motels and guesthouses that are often less expensive than those directly on Main Street, yet still within a reasonable walking distance or a short bus ride to the village's main attractions.

Families looking for budget-friendly stays might consider the outskirts of Lake Placid or the neighbouring village of Saranac Lake. Saranac Lake, about a 15-minute drive from Lake Placid, typically offers more competitive hotel rates and a quieter atmosphere. It still provides easy access to the region's natural beauty and attractions, with its own charming downtown area and opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking and canoeing on the Saranac Chain of Lakes.
