This was our first visit to the area and our first stay at Hotel Californian. We were very pleased with the overall experience. The hotel offers excellent value, impeccable cleanliness, and attentive service. The property is stylish and well maintained, and the staff made us feel welcome. We look forward to returning.

Great location! Right in the heart of the funk zone
I will say some things:
- I read plenty of reviews about the rooms being small. I thought people were probably exaggerating. I am here to confirm the rooms are indeed super small. I was only there 2 nights and with just one other person so it was manageable.
- The shower is messy. The way it’s set up, it’s quite impossible to not make a mess. I honestly don’t know who designed it and thought it was a great idea. It was also super tight. I dreaded having to shower during my stay.
- Bed was comfy, no complaints there.
- We parked in the neighborhood to avoid valet parking fee, but valet parking seemed to be limited.
I want to say I would come back, but I’m not sure. The location is great and it was the most affordable option that didn’t look as bad in the area. However, the shower was a huge turn off.
