"Reception under staffed"
I was locked out of my room before I had the chance to check out..I was staying one night and I found it quite prices given that my friends were checked in for 2 nights and dinner was free for them , I had to pay for dinner. The dinning room lacked atmosphere, but the brasserie was warm and cheery , definitely go there, but the food was delicious . My room was too big, and I had a walk in shower for disabled, but I would of preferred a room on the higher floor, and allow some one who needed this room the chance... Restaurant and breakfast was lovely, and plenty to eat...bit of of the way though..

Our first room was located furthest from the lifts and as I had recently sustained a leg muscle injury I was not very mobile. We requested a change of room the next day and it was organised for us by the time we returned to the hotel later that day.

"Handy central hotel for the Usher Hall"
Stayed here for my daughters graduation in the Usher hall. Only needed to cross the road, so ideal location. Room was very comfortable. All staff were friendly and accommodating, particularly those in the bar area as we had so many comings and goings! We didn't dine in the hotel, but did have a la carte breakfast. We couldn't bring ourselves to pay the huge buffet prices if we weren't going to eat tons to get value for money.

"Nice Hotel in tranquil setting"
This hotel is great, price wise its relatively cheap for the Edinburgh area for a hotel of this calibre but doesn't scrimp on the cleanliness, comfort and luxury feel. It has plenty of onsite amenities. The leisure facilities (pool, sauna and steam room) are all huge and accommodate comfortably. We spent a lot of time in there and there were always people in cleaning and keeping the place tidy. We are not golfers but the courses always looked busy even though the weather was poor so took that as a good sign. The room was also immaculate, although it may have been a while since the hotel was renovated every inch of the room was thoroughly cleaned and the bed was brilliantly comfy. The breakfast is a must, one of the best we've had in any hotel.

"MacDonald Marine"
This was our third stay at this hotel over a number of years and unfortunately it didn't live up to its previous high standards . There were 3 grounds for complaint . Firstly we had bother with our radiators , whether this was down to us not operating the controls properly or not it was only resolved on the 2nd time of complaining when an electrical heater was placed in our room although the radiator did in fact come on later that night . Our second complaint was due to the poor condition of the window in our room ( room 206 ) which led to the window making such a racket when the wind blew that it was almost impossible to sleep ! We had 2 windy nights during our 3 night stay and so ended up very tired by the time we were returning home ! We did only complain about this on checking out but only received a half hearted response that it would be reported to the manager . In my complaint I had said that in my opinion until such time as the window is fixed the room should not be let out during bad weather or on windy days which taking into account the position of the hotel would be frequent but again this suggestion did not seem to be taken seriously however I think if the hotel staff or manager had to spend a night in that room they might realise the seriousness of the problem ! Lastly my third complaint relates to the restaurant and in particular to the lack of vegetarian sausages in the vegetarian breakfast The staff did apologise but to be without for 3 days is bad

Friendly staff upon entering the hotel. Our room was on the side of the hotel by a side street so we could hear the restaurants dumping their glass bottles. Wasn't the best view, but clean and spacious.
