Unwashed cup in the room and empty shampoo dispencer. Pool closed for this "spa weakend." Hotel unable to provide a cooked breakfast and reluctant to offer a rebate. Premises dirty and staff surly. Bar service poor and prolonged delays in the dining room in spite of pre-ordered food. Far from the expected standard of a 4star establishment

Positives - the room was large, hotel well located in the centre, good toiletries, staff very helpful and pleasant. Despite being a 4 star hotel it really doesn’t feel like one, much more like a 3 star. It is very worn and run down and poorly maintained with peeling paint and chunks missing out of walls. We also had a weirdly designed window that was in the eaves of the room and had mirrors in the sides and as soon as the sun came up it absolutely filled the room with light making it very difficult to sleep and I was up from 5am which impacted our trip. Picture attached was taken just after 5am so you can see how light it makes the room! I regularly stay in York and usually stay in rooms above pubs, most of which are £30-£50 a night cheaper and 3 stars and this didn’t feel any better than those overall and I don’t think it’s worth the extra money compared to those types of accommodation.

From friendly reception staff to the bar and breakfast staff it was a great stay overall. Large hotel rooms with sofa bed, tea and coffee facilities with the bonus of water coolers and fresh milk on every floor for your stay really nice touch. Breakfast was as good with a full buffet selection and a few special items to order a la carte style. Beautiful hotel would recommend and stay again when in the area. Thank you all.
