That's what geologists tell us happened 20,000 years ago when a large glacial lake in Montana broke through it's 2000 foot tall (641 m) ice dam and flooded eastern Washington and Idaho with 600 cubic miles of water (2,500 cubic km). The flood water rushed over this 400ft tall (121 m) ridge at 65mph (104 kmh), generating a flow roughly 10 times larger than the flow of all the world's rivers combined! According to the current geological model, catastrophic flooding channeled water at 65 miles per hour through the Upper Grand Coulee and over this 400-foot (120 m) rock face at the end of the last ice age.
