#### Take the kids to this historic castle for boat rides along the canal, strolls through the garden and even an adventure with Tintin.

Of the castles in the Loire Valley, the Château de Cheverny stands out for its exceptional architecture, devoid of any Renaissance touch. This large white castle features a classical style with a gray roof and symmetrical aspects.

Notice the simple façade of the large castle and gaze up at its varied roof features of domes and bell towers. Guided tours of the interior are available in French in the summer. Pick up an informative brochure and venture inside to appreciate the history through the building’s old-world décor and features. Learn the story of the noble family that lived here. The Huraults inhabited the château for six centuries, which may account for the lack of architectural change during the Renaissance.

Inspect the various weapons, chests and other historical trinkets beside the Gobelins tapestry in the Arms Room. Peruse the stately chambers and admire the artworks throughout the château. Highlights include the dining room’s wood panels depicting Don Quixote.

A trip to the castle is ideal for families with its mystery game for observant kids. Watch the tradition of the late afternoon feeding time of 100 hounds. Stroll through the scenic gardens and relax on a bench to view the château. Rent a golf cart to get around the grounds or a boat for a trip along the canal. Prepare a picnic to eat on the lawn for a tranquil afternoon.

The site played an important role in protecting several Louvre masterpieces, including the *Mona Lisa*, during World War II. Visit the permanent exhibit on the realm of comic book star Tintin in the Secrets of Marlinspike Hall.

The doors open to visitors daily year-round from morning until late afternoon, with longer operating hours in summer. Various prices are set for the château, its gardens and package deals. Bring children for free.

I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful hotel. The room was perfect, with classic period decor. The staff was friendly and attentive, the breakfast bar was lovely (and the woman who took my coffee order made the very best coffee!). All this, and the location, in the heart of St Germain and the 6th. Exceptional value for the money. I’ll never stay anywhere else when I’m in Paris!
