Instead to the main park we went to the Observation Lodge parking lot and did a nice 1,5 hour hike by ourselves. We had to pay $20 between the two of us to cover parking fee and entry to the park. It would cost us $12 per person to enter the Lodge premises, so we did opt out, although we were considering having lunch there after the hike.
Look for a day where sunshine is predicted. Most often the top is shrouded in cloud.
We drove to the Arenal National Park and did the hike without a guide.
