“Nice place”

Friendly hotel. Quiet, respectable area, fresh air. It is easy to reach the center of Rome. Very good breakfast. It is difficult to find a place for a dinner in step-by-step availability from hotel. You can dine in the hotel. Not bad. Approximately 27 per person: appetizer, main dish, dessert and a glass of wine. The free Internet - unsatisfactory. The TV - for an additional payment. A taxi from the airport Leonard da Vinci to the hotel at a cost of 40 euros. And in the back direction booked at Reception - 55 euros. The main advantage, in my opinion, that after a noisy and crowded city center the area is quiet, calm and green. Despite of some small inconveniences in the next trip to Rome we shall stay in this hotel.

“Nice room, great breakfast, good service”

Hotel room was large and comfortable for a European room. Breakfast was delicious and included with our stay. They offer a free shuttle service that takes you to the nearest metro. However, they have a set schedule so when it's full they won't take anyone else or make additional trips. We didn't realize that the hotel is somewhat outside of the city center. That was the only drawback to this hotel. The restaurant had a pretty good dinner and happy hour specials (not the best, but definitely not the worst we encountered while in Europe). Everyone was helpful and spoke "good enough" English. If we were in Rome we'd stay here again.

Area recommendations
We had a really good time walking around with no set destination in mind. The Palatine, Coliseum and around the river are all really nice. e

“Second Visit”

This was our second visit to this hotel and we are glad that we went back. The staff is polite and professional and the hotel is clean and comfortable. We had dinner at the hotel one night and it was very good and reasonably priced. The neighborhood is worth exploring, we found a great little place to eat around the block, La Piazzetta del Gusto. Great prices and delicious food. The shuttle fills up quickly so it is worth learning the local bus routes, quite easy. The hotel is about a 15 minute metro ride outside of the city center but we liked that. Rome is beautiful and quite fun but we like our down time to be quiet. Great place, would and will go back again.

“Great 4 stars hotel--convenient location to both airports if you're renting a car!”

This hotel had underground parking as well as outside parking lots. The reception people were nice and polite. The room was big and the bed was comfortable (coming from us who sleep in a thempurpedic at home). It was quite, and the AC worked as it was supposed to. The restaurant next to the reception is a great option for dinning out, given they don't charge service fee or a cover charge (expect this almost everywhere in rome). the quality of the food is also better than the quality in most restaurants you will encounter in rome.

“Quite lolcation and a good retreat from the Hustle and bustle”

The quality of the motel was extremely fine for the price. The staff was extremely helpful and easy to communicate with. the Motel was a little hard to find on the first night but after you get the lay of the area it is easy to access, and has onsite parking. Good access to the public transportation, and a retreat from the overcrowding of down town. The best all around motel that I stayed in during my visit to Italy.

“excellent hotel”

the hotel capannelle & employees are outstanding, i highly recommend this facility. the desk staff speak english & make every effort to assist with all arrangements for visiting rome & other areas of italy. the desk employees are competent & more helpful than the travel agency personnel in rome. fabio & a second young man, who spoke english working at the reception desk & who's name i did not get are italian ambassadors as they were gentlemen & professional. my wife & i could not have been treated any better. i highly recommend hotel capannelle for individuals planning on visiting rome.

Area recommendations
it is difficult to recommend any specific area because there is so much to see that it takes days to even visit the primary attractions.

“Budget travel at it's best.”

My husband and I love to travel and in order to do that we have to cut corners. Hotels in the suburbs area money saver. This room was extremely nice! The wireless internet allowed us the needed contact to home. I can't say enough about the breakfast. The coffee was out of a machine, but we aren't talking SevenEleven powdered coffee! The coffee was fresh and AWESOME and I am a serious coffee drinker. It is the same breakfast they serve every morning, but there is so much to choose from that you can have something different daily. If you email the hotel you can hire a car to pick you up at the airport. It does not cost all that much more than taking the train and certainly takes less time and energy. The bus and subways were easy to get around on. They did strike one day and we shared a taxi to the center with other tourists and saved money. Definately buy the Roma Pass at the TI station (tourist info) at Termini Station. Unlimited Public Transit in Rome for 3 days and You get 2 Museum entrances that lets you bypass the MASSIVE lines at the Colossseum. The Colosseum ticket includes Roman Forum and Palatine hill so make sure to get a early start. It's amazing! Best budget tip. Go out of the front of the hotel and take a left. You will see a grocery store about a block away. They have The BEST focaccia type bread EVER in their bakery and you can buy awesome sliced cheese and cheap bottled water. Those Picnics at Palatine Hill and the Appian Way Catacombs are our best memories!

Area recommendations
I loved staying in the suburbs! It would definately be easier to stay in the center, but I felt that we got a small look at real Roman life away from the hoards of tourists. The views from the rooftop deck were breath taking. The local grocery was AMAZING and made me long for a kitchen. We went there several times to put together a picnic lunch and saved tons of money by eating one of our meals that way. when you are in the middle of Palentine hill and slightly exhausted from the day, it is so nice to find a shady spot and pull out your bread and cheese and just enjoy the view Eating where the Ceasars ate! There were several cafe's within walking distance and for a few Euro we could get a pizza and eat under the stars! There was one pizza place with a very tall owner that loved Americans! He was SO good to us (he didn't mind speaking english) and I still long for one of his Margharita pizzas! Overall, staying in the suburbs is an easy 15 minute commute. 2 warnings. Be prepared for the worst. The metro strikes often. you may have to hire a taxi to take you in to the center. even on the strike day the metro opened for 2 hours in the evening so we gould get back to the hotel without the considerable expense of a taxi. Secondly, WEAR A MONEY BELT UNDER YOUR CLOTHES! A lady from our hotel was pickpocketed by a very classy looking lady on the metro. It happens all the time in Rome! We had our credit cards, passports and money safely tucked in and never had a problem. Enjoy Rome!
When to go
We went right after spring time change so we would have more daylight hours but still enjoy the off season pricing. The weather could not have been more perfect! we did not even have to take our Jackets with us to town. We wore long sleaved clothes and pushed up the sleaves in the day and pulled them down in the evening. End of March and Early April are the best times to go I think. Summer is too hot to enjoy and way too many tourist. In Early spring we got to enjoy fresh flowers, green grass, budding trees and the beautiful smells that come with all of that! Spring in Italy!!
Getting around
From Hotel Capanneli you will take their bus to the metro. It is 1 euro to get anywhere in Rome in 75 minutes or less! Great deal! If you look at the metro maps above the door in the trains, you will see a map of the stops and below some stops they list the main sight closest. example: Spanga:Spanish Steps. Also, from Rome we went by fast train to Venice. Don't bother paying a travel desk their fee. Go to the ticket machines in Termini Stations main lobby, FIRMLY REFUSE the useless help of the random guys that will come up and try to help and try to force you to tip them after giving bad advice(and may even pickpocket you), and press the english flag for english and follow the instructions. It can be slightly confusing, but you can figure it out. The confusion for me was that they spelled Venice 2 different ways: Venecia and Venise. We bought the ticket a couple of days in advance to ensure seats together. The train was clean, comfortable and fast. We saw Tuscany, Florence and Bologna on our way to Venice! So awesome!
What to pack
As little as possible! only what you can easily lug over endless stairs at Termini Station if you will be taking trains!
Must see
Colosseum, Palatine Hill, Roman Forum, Pantheon, Sistine Chapel, Castle San Angelo, Appian way Catacombs, Spanish Steps, Trevi fountain, Rick Steves Night Walk.

“Great hotel, location could be better.”

Very nice hotel. Took a while to find it, and the neighborhood wasn't as expected, but the hotel was great. The breakfast was amazing and we had tons of options. The rooms were very nice and were very comfortable. We had a rental car, so it didn't take long to get to Ancient Rome, it was about 10 minutes or so from the hotel by car. It was also very easy to get to places from the hotel. We really enjoyed this hotel, glad we found it. :)

Area recommendations
Probably central Rome.
Must see
Ancient Rome and Vatican City. We spent two days in Ancient Rome, where the colosseum was located. It was great.

“Affordable and Nice”

The staff was very nice! They were prompt and on-time whenever I needed assistance. The hotel was very beautiful! The breakfast was very filling. This hotel had a lot of other things to offer, like a hotel restaurant, bar, pool, etc. I stayed for three nights and was completely satisfied. The only downfall was that I had a triple on the 3rd floor that was all the way to the end, and the shower head was broken, so it needed to have been fixed. The location of the hotel is not the best when it comes to the city center. However, it is not too far and there is a bus that comes right down the street. There is also the hotel shuttle that takes you right to the nearest metro station, which eliminates time on the 654 bus. Although the hotel is on the outskirts of Rome, there are quite a few things that are close to it: grocery store, nice Italian restaurant, a little night hang out spot, etc. There is plenty to keep one from being bored.

Area recommendations
All of the areas are exciting, but be careful when trying to eat in the touristy areas because it is amazingly expensive.
