“Berkeley hotel”
Nice hotel, not a chain so it doesn't have the sterile feel to it that other hotels sometimes have. Right next to the downtown Berkeley BART stop and right off of Stattuck so you can walk anywhere. Rooms are nice. Good bookstores either way on Shattuck and nice choices of places to eat. My personal choice for a great dinner is the hotel restaurant FIVE which is very good. The only negative is the noise level if it is crowded.
“Great hotel to stay in!”
We stayed at Hotel Shattuck for one night after a concert at the Greek Theater. It was the perfect pick. The location is in central Berkeley and within walking distance of UCB and the Theater, with lots of cute places to have a drink or grab a bite to eat nearby. The hotel was beautifully maintained and the rooms, although on the smaller side had very a very comfortable bed! The restaurant inside the hotel - called 5 is Excellent!!! Highly recommend this for dinner or even for great appetizers and a happy hour menu. The only down side to this hotel is that parking is in a public garage across the street. We left the hotel to catch a flight at SFO Sunday morning only to find the garage did not open until 8 a.m. The hotel should've told us this at check in. If our flight would've been earlier it would've been a huge problem. But overall - excellent hotel. We would definitely stay there again!
“Can I move in?”
This is a fantastic hotel. I booked a 'single-double' room, which was perfect for one. Everything is fitted out beautifully and immaculately clean. The toiletries are good quality and the room was equipped with all the technological conveniences one could hope for. The bed was very comfortable and the staff were courteous and quiet in the morning - I really hate being woken up at 5am by people chatting in the hallways. The front desk staff were also friendly and efficient. I hope I can get another good deal with Expedia on this hotel, because this is where I will be staying next time I'm in the area.
“Berkley's Best Hotel”
We loved the history of the building. It was light and airy; the substantial remodel was done with great care and lovely interior design finishes. Very friendly and welcoming staff. We met other hotel guest who were equally happy with their stay. At breakfast we had the best waffles ever!! We are looking forward to trying dinner at our next visit.
“Great Hotel in a great town”
The room at the Hotel Shattuck Plaza was beautiful, modern and comfortable. The service was excellent a very proficient staff. My only negatives are the parking. It sucks. There is no unmetered parking in the entire neighborhood, the garage across the street charges every time you leave or enter so for sightseeing it is very expensive and inconvenient. My other comment is that they burn incense candles in the hotel lobby and honestly it is a turn off. The scent reminds me of something old. In fact it was such a turn off that I would not consider dining there at the restaurant or bar. This is unfortunate because I had read good reviews however I couldn't get past the smell. At least change the scent, seems like an easy fix. And I am not normally sensitive to this but I was not the only person in our party that shared this opinion. Otherwise, I highly recommend the hotel, you just may not want to hang in the lobby.
“Great Hotel”
Great Hotel, friendly staff, reasonably priced, great location. Would definitely stay here again. The only 2 slightly negative things, no hotel owned parking (but not hard to find a spot) and several of the TV channels were not working. Despite those two things, I will stay there again the next time I am in that area.
“Very good location and excellent service”
Hotel Shattuck Plaza is two blocks from UC Berkeley and very close to the BART. Free coffee/tea before 8:00AM. It has two PCs near front desk. Fast and free WIFI. My wife liked French Lavender soap. Very good service at the front desk. The hotel does not have a parking garage so we had to use the parking garage in front of the hotel. It only costs $5 each Saturday/Sunday. $2.5/hour during the week.
“Great backup plan when SF is booked”
I needed to stay in downtown SF but because of a convention everything was booked. This hotel had all the amentities of a business hotel including the convenience of BART. I'd stay their again. Very well appointed room.
“Very Impressed”
For the price and the great location of the Hotel Shattuck Plaza, I was not expecting anything great from the rooms or service. We were greeted with friendly people (not the cheesy, forced to be nice attitude you sometimes receive... these were genuinely friendly people). When we entered our room, it was clean, updated and quiet. After a horrible experience in a so-called 4 star hotel in San Francisco the previous night, this was a breath of fresh air. The location made it easy to go without a car. It's a stone's throw from the BART and a short walk to everything we wanted to see in Berkeley. If I ever stay in Berkeley again, I would not hesitate to go back to this hotel.
“Excellent hotel, conveniently located”
Hotel was wonderful. It was renovated and up to date. Location on BART fantastic. We could take the BART directly to and from the airport, with no more than 1/2 block of walking total at both ends. BART connected us to sights in San Francisco, without paying twice-the-price hotel rooms. There are lots of restaurants, post office and UPS, all within walking distance. The maid service was ok but hotel management was responsive in correcting errors regarding numbers of towels, washcloths, desk stationary, etc.
