Located on the corner of Thompson and Grand, the newly built property is conceived and designed as an artistically inspired, community focused and environmentally thoughtful hotel.. In homage to the creative neighborhood it calls home, The James New York features a mix of local artists both prominent and up-and-coming.
A two-story all-glass private Sky Lobby offers views of the Urban Garden along with area views of the neighboring sculpture garden. The hotel features expansive and unobstructed city views, with a panoramic rooftop vista of both the East and Hudson rivers.
Social spaces include JIMMY, the rooftop bar and pool deck; and indoor and seasonal outdoor dining at the chef-driven restaurant, David Burke Kitchen.

The James features 114 non-smoking Guest Rooms and Suites, which include spacious corner rooms with wrap-around views. Each room includes thoughtful, guest-centric and environmentally-conscious touches, such as reclaimed wood floors and furnishings; an eco-friendly pillow selection by Keetsa; and rugs made from all-natural fibers. No detail has been overlooked, with mindfully planned features, high ceilings, windows that open outward (a rarity among New York City hotels), easily-accessible electrical outlets; reading lights embedded in the headboard; and spacious guest bathrooms, complete with huge standing showers and separated from the living area by a floor-to-ceiling glass wall which features a remote-controlled "peek-a-boo art screen".

David Burke Kitchen — Rustic American cuisine with a contemporary flair
The restaurant focuses on wholesome and hearty modern American food, locally sourced and presented in the creative and whimsical style that is Burke’s trademark. Designed by James Beard Award-winner Thomas Schlesser, David Burke Kitchen’s interior is inspired by the surrounding Soho neighborhood, blending the cool, industrial simplicity of an airy loft with the rustic warmth of an urban farmhouse.
The loft-like main dining room featuring exposed beams and views through glass walls into the kitchen and wine cave; and outdoor space within the Urban Garden, opening this summer. The dining room boasts a bold, theatrical experience: a carving station where dishes are plated in the center of the action.
David Burke Kitchen serves breakfast, lunch, dinner daily as well as weekend brunch.

JIMMY, the rooftop bar and lounge, is a contemporary interpretation of a classic pub with a 1970’s New York twist. Elements like herringbone floors, a leather trimmed solid wood bar top, brick glazed tile walls, rich blue upholstery and working fireplaces come together to create a sense of warmth. A year-round destination, Jimmy opens into the rooftop pool deck during the warmer months. But whether indoors or out, Jimmy guests are treated to one of the most spectacular views in New York City: a river-to-river vista looking over Midtown, Wall Street, the Brooklyn Bridge and beyond. Guests can order from a classically inspired cocktail menu with ingredients including syrups, bitters and juices prepared in-house from herbs in the Chef’s Garden.
Treehouse, a glass enclosed bar, where guests can enjoy handcrafted cocktails with an array of pizzas, flatbreads, spreads and pâtés as well as homemade sweet and savory snacks from David Burke Kitchen.

“LMQ”
My husband and I spent one night at The James and loved it. The room was lovely with sweeping southern and western views. The service was excellent and the amenities were great. Loved the downtown location too!

A great location, well appointed rooms, lots of lovely complimentary touches; the coffee & pastries, the wine & cheese, the cookies. The bathroom toiletries were gorgeous too.
“Really really nice for the price!”
Our room wasn't ready on time, so they sent us to the rooftop poolside bar. Gorgeous view. They gave us complimentary drinks (which were manhattan prices so we loved the gesture) When we went back downstairs, our room still wasn't ready, so they offered us a glass of red wine and the KING size that was clean. (We paid for a queen). SUCH a cool room! Glass walls with retractable dividers......really modern and different. we were treated like kings here. This hotel is really nice, its the epitome of Manhattan cool (We know, we LIVE here!)
“Excellent Hôtel en tout point de vue”

“Excellent small hotel”
Excellent location, magnificient views, quiet rooms in general but avoid rooms near the roof top bar as music can be loud if there are parties. Genuinely helpful staff (except at Jimmy's where there are snobby NY waitresses), excellent service. Nice touches: Free water and all the other goodies. The cookies and truffles were so yummy. Overall I would recommend the hotel for business people who don't work with a lot of papers as there is no real work area in the small rooms but wireless Internet access everywhere and singles/couples who like more modern, sophisticated hotels off the touristy roads as well as for honeymooners.

Nice place,comfortable beds,professional staff,roofdeck will be even more appealling in the summer months,top floor for Jimmy's Bar looked cozy,glass enclosed bathroom was just fine. The only con that I would even mention was that there were no ice machines available,had to call room service to get ice but it was promptly delivered. About a two block walk to Starbucks and alittle less to the 1 or E Subways. I'd definitely like to check out the roof in the summer months,but got some clear pictures of the WTC anyways.
