Dublin's most stylish hotel, The Merrion, stands on Upper Merrion Street, in the centre of Georgian Dublin, opposite Government Buildings, the home of the Irish parliament. It was created from four magnificent Grade I Listed terrace houses - known as the Main House - and a specially commissioned contemporary Garden Wing arranged around two private gardens. One of the houses, No. 24, was the home of Lord Mornington. His son, the 1st Duke of Wellington, is said to have been born there.
The original drawing rooms in the Main House, with their rococo plasterwork and cornices, have been restored to their former glory. The interior of the hotel remains true to its Georgian origins. Alice Roden, a well known local designer, designed the guest rooms and public areas, using period colours, Irish fabrics and antiques.
The Merrion also boasts one of the most important and exciting private collections of contemporary art in Ireland, hung in the public areas for everyone to enjoy.
The hotel offers the choice of two restaurants and two bars. The renowned “Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud”, with its 2 Michelin Stars, moved from its former site in Dublin to spectacular premises in The Merrion's Main House. For less formal dining, The Cellar Restaurant offers a simple uncomplicated menu using the best quality Irish ingredients. Next to the restaurant the original 18th century wine cellars with their vaulted ceilings provide an atmospheric setting for The Cellar Bar, already a great favourite with Dubliners. Guests can also meet in “No. 23,” the smaller cocktail bar on the ground floor.
The Merrion's health and fitness centre, The Tethra Spa, with its 18-metre infinity swimming pool, offers exercise and relaxation in surroundings unrivalled in Dublin. A gymnasium, steamroom and a luxurious private treatment room make this a place to relax and let stress drain away.
One of the most distinctive and unusual features of The Merrion is its gardens. The two landscaped period gardens were designed by Jim Reynolds, the noted Irish landscape artist. The smaller of the two, known as “Lady Mornington's Garden” is purely decorative, linking the Main House to the new Garden Wing. The new wing completes the enclosure of the garden, so that many of the guestrooms enjoy views over the large central garden. In summer, the large garden becomes an extension of the drawing rooms in the Main House, with waiter service so that guests can eat and drink outside on the terrace.
In the 123 rooms and 19 suites clients benefit from the latest technology: multi-lined facility with 3 telephones in each guestroom; plasma screen televisions, complimentary Wireless and Broadband Internet connections and video conferencing. Completing The Merrion's impressive list of facilities is a private car park with valet parking and a conference and banqueting centre with its own separate entrance.

All rooms in the Main House are equipped with full air conditioning, multiline telephones, fully stocked mini bars, cable/satellite television, Internet Connection, individual safes, Hi-fi Music system, Italian marble bathrooms with Asprey amenities and bathrobes and slippers.
As in The Main House, the guestrooms in the Garden Wing are all equipped with individually controlled air- conditioning, multiline telephones, personalised voice-mail with remote access, fully stocked mini bars, cable/satellite television, Internet connection, video conferencing, individual safes, Italian marble bathrooms with Garden of Ireland amenities, bathrobes and slippers.
Bathrooms throughout the hotel have been designed using striking Italian carrera marble and contemporary chrome fittings. The Bathrooms are remarkably spacious an airy and all but five offer separate power showers and bath stalls. Toiletries are made exclusively for The Merrion by Garden of Ireland.

Dining
Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud - Gourmet restaurant operated by English-speaking French staff. High ceiling and modern paintings. The a la carte menu favors fish, and a fixed-price taster menu fuses French and Irish cuisine with such dishes as Wild Pigeon and Elderberries. Open for lunch and dinner, Tuesday-Saturday.
Cellar Restaurant - Semiformal restaurant with Irish tapestries and vaulted ceiling. Cold buffet and cooked-to-order items for breakfast, and a la carte lunch and dinner menus. Fine Irish dishes include Calves Liver with Onion Gravy, Bacon, and Mashed Potatoes. Wine list includes a selection from the hotel owner's French vineyard.
Cellar Bar - In the original Georgian wine cellars, this bar is a labyrinth of candlelit alcoves beneath vaulted brick ceilings. Open all day for drinks; upscale lunch items include Confit of Duck Leg. In the evenings, finger food, light meals, and hot and cold platters are available.
Drawing Rooms - Ideal for a quiet drink, a light lunch (finger food, delicate sandwiches), or afternoon tea. Sofas, armchairs, and turf-burning fireplaces; summer terrace seating overlooks garden. Time-conscious guests appreciate the swift service of the Express Continental Breakfast menu, available every morning.
No. 23 - This resident's lounge is an intimate and traditional setting for a drink or light lunch, such as sandwiches or salads. Leather armchairs, candelabras, and oil paintings. Open 24 hours.
Recreation
Guests have complimentary access to the hotel's heath club. Open early morning to midevening daily, its facilities include a 18-meter (59-foot) infinity pool, six-person steam room, and gym with nine cardio machines, three-station multi-gym, and free weights. Spa treatments (surcharge) include aromatherapy massage, manicures, pedicures, and hot- stone treatments. Women's and men's locker rooms have showers and hairdryers.

“Visit the Merrion if you can.”
This hotel is a gem, quite unique in my experience. Fanstastic, old fashioned quality. Very gifted staff who seemed only, and genuinely, interested in your welfare. There were absolutely no areas of weakness. Apart from being wonderfully luxurious, with every possible comfort taken care of; it was fascinating as an establishment of living history, with many famous events having occurred within its walls; with wonderful paintings illustrating every aspect of its historic background. It is quite reasonably priced; and we will be back as soon as we have any time!
“Excellent hotel in a nice location.”
The hotel staff were superb, they really went out of their way to make sure that everything was to our satisfaction. Once we arrived, they escorted us to our room and explained everything to us. They always had a smile on their face and I never encounterd a rude staff person. You must do the afternoon tea, a little pricey, but worth it. You are given an assortment of finger sandwiches and several desserts. The final desserts are a work of art. Unfortuately, we had a room that some of the marble tiles were falling off around the tub. The rooms were a little stuffy, unable to control the coolness in the room. I loved how they maintained the historical aspect of the hotel. Very beautiful. We upgraded out room to the garden room with very nice views.

“Quiet in the City”
Indeed, all the staff members are helpful and friendly. What we especially enjoyed, however, was not hearing any noise outside our room. In addition, the room-darkening drapes and extremely comfortable bed were appreciated. The easy access free WiFi was also nice as well as the Business Center for printing our boarding passes. Overall, an above-average hotel near all main attractions.
“Awesome hotel, Awesome location in Dublin”
Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Dublin. It is within walking distance to all the sights in Dublin and is right across the street from the Natural History Museum and down the street from St. Stephen's Green. Room was great (standard king). View was icky, but who needs to look out the window? Super comfy bed, slippers, robes, huge bathroom with huge tub. We ate in the Cellar for dinner - amazing. My husband used the spa services as well. The concierge was good, though we walked around the neighborhood and found amazing places to eat and drink (Donehy & Nesbitt and O'Donoghues) to name a few.

Well located in center of town, easy to walk to several venues for food, entertainment and activities. A bus stop is directly down the street for a tour of downtown Dublins attractions.
“Perfection”
Stayed at the Merrion over a long weekend in June with my wife & adult daughter. Our rooms were in the Garden wing---clean, spacious, bright, extremely comfortable beds, large bathroom. The staff were superlative. We always received friendly, attentive service. The wonderful art work in the hotel was a pleasant surprise, museum quality. We ate/drank at the Cellar pub and were very pleased. Could not have asked for a better experience overall.
