“Appearances are deceiving - hygiene lacking”

The hotel appears clean and the services are sufficient and satisfactory. My moment of horror occurred when the toilet would not flush and housekeeping had to be called in. The response came within 10 minutes and the attendent used a plunger to resolve the problem, in the process splashing toilet water onto the floor and toilet seat. He wiped this with a room towel and told me the problem was taken care of. At this point I had to remind him that he had not used a disinfectant to clean the floor and toilet surfaces and he agreed this was necessary. He returned with a bottle of all-purpose cleaner and used the same room towel to hastily clean the floor and toilet surfaces. The towel was left in the room. That same night ( Thursday, May 26th 2011) I noticed that the pillows on one side of the bed had a clear head imprint or indentation on them and the sheets on that sid eof the bed were not properly tucked in. To me, it seemed the bed had not been made properly and, worse, the sheets not changed after the last guest departed. I was not expecting a 4 star hotel but I think it is reasonable to expect a high standard of hygiene from a hotel and what I observed here leaves a lot of room for improvement and for the health authorities to check-up on. Appearances are deceiving and the true test of cleanliness was not met.
