“Very pleasant stay”

An extremely good welcome from the staff and a clean, comfortable room.

“Friendly staff”

We found the hotel staff to be very friendly. The breakfast selection was excellent. - with many choices of beautifully displayed food. We were disappointed there was not a kitchenette in our room as requested or a ceiling fan as advertised. There were 4 flights of stairs to climb to our room so not suitable for the unfit. We were given one set of ear plugs for two people which was a problem as the hotel opened onto a very rowdy street- we had to keep the window open due to it being so hot and no fan to cool the room down. The bathroom was very narrow creating a problem for those who were tall.

“A Let-Down”

In the beginning, The Alp seemed perfect, despite no air conditioning in the rooms. (Some rooms offered large floor fans, some did not). There is free Internet service in the lobby and a huge variety of foods for breakfast. The staff was wonderful and helpful upon arrival, even carrying our bags up the narrow flights of stairs. After checking in, we went to explore the city. The Alp is very close to the Anne Frank House, maybe a ten minute walk, and that was the #1 reason we chose to stay there. For the first three blocks, however, I didn't feel entirely safe but it was during the day time so we were fine. I would definitely take a taxi after dark. My opinion of the hotel changed drastically upon our return. The reason I gave a mark of two for both cleanliness and comfort was because, when I got back to my room, it looked as though someone had used my shower while I was gone and there was hair on the floor in a location I would have noticed the first time I was in the room. There was water on the floor and in the tub and there hadn't been before. The room had been spotless before we left. My mother knew someone had been in her room too because when she had left, she had left all the blinds open. When she returned, they were closed while my blinds had been left alone and open. I was instantly uncomfortable and while I had been excited to stay there to begin with, I was soon glad it was only for one night. I think this is unfortunate because The Alp started out so promising.
