“wonderful hotel in Amsterdam!”
hotel is very nice, clean and staff is friendly. best hotel we stayed at in europe, very comfortable!
“Just excellant....”
Wonderful! Couldn't check in early but luggage remained secure until the 3pm check in.The superiour room was spacious, very clean, very comfortable, great hairdryer, good power shower, selection of freebie toiletries, great view of Signal, black out blinds, etc. Book the breakfast to get a reduction to 11euros, it is all you can eat so you decide if it's good value. The lift cannot be worked without your key card, making the hotel very secure. There is an ironing room & drinks room (with ice). Only gripe - no room service but there is plenty to eat in the endless restaurants outside! 'La Place' is a great place to eat in or take away, & conveniently close to the hotel.
“Great location”
Great location, within walking distance of main attractions, great restarunts and some of the more popular brown cafes.
“Clean hotel in great location”
I visited in April 2005 with 3 mature girlfriends. This 20's Art Deco hotel was clean and quiet in a neighborhood near Spui square (pronounced "Spow") that was surrounded by restaurants, shops, tram stop, Singel canal at rear exit, and a first-rate historical museum. The staff was professional, helpful, spoke English flawlessly, and accommodated our requests for directions, maps, and vases for tulips we purchased. The lobby internet terminal was never busy (at 10 Euros for 45 minutes, one doesn't linger) and fast enough for email. The cleaning staff didn't appear until around 3:00 pm, but we had no complaints. Every room, even adjacent rooms, varied in size and shape and layout; general lighting was very soft but reading and desk lighting was ample. Hair dryers worked great. Tap water was very satisfactory for drinking and coffee. Stowed luggage off the lobby was secure, convenient for us as we arrived very early and left after checkout. Security was good in the hotel; a room keycard was needed to use the elevator or stairs from the lobby. Lock boxes were available in the lobby. The rear lobby doors were locked against entry. Bathroom doors off the lobby locked. Rooms had deadbolts. We'd stay there again. P.S. The bar served a fine Dutch sweet liquor by Coeburgh for 2.50 Euros.
“very impressed”
so nice!!! had a lovely (if a bit smallish) room overlooking the canal with huuuuge windows and the comfiest bed ever! staff were all really friendly
“Good value in a great location!”
The hotel is situated between a delightful canal and a side street, so is quiet but convenient to all amenities. We walked to all the museums etc. without difficulty and only caught a tram back to the station on our departure. The public rooms are a bit gloomy, but our room was modern, clean and bright and we were able to check-in as soon as we arrived at 0900. We had expected to use the locked storage room for our luggage until later in the day. We thought 16 euros for breakfast in the hotel was excessive although they were discounting it to 11 euros during our stay. There are plenty of alternatives nearby. There are numerous local restaurants, with one just across the road, having a good atmosphere, and offering great food at a reasonable price e.g 3 course tourist menu at 19 euros.
“Great Experience”
This was a great hotel. I stayed there for my honeymoon in one of their superior rooms. The price I got for their superior room was slightly more than I have paid for other "standard rooms" at different hotels in the same vicinity. Here are a few comments of why you should definately consider staying here. 1. The staff was very friendly 2. They have a secure luggage room for you to leave your stuff while you wait for your room. Other places tell you you can leave your luggage but you leave it in plain site in the lobby where anyone can pick up your luggage and leave. 3. The nonsmoking rooms actually smell clean and not damp or smoky 4. The location is great. The walk is not that bad from central station, but if you have a lot of luggage you can take the number 2 train and get of on Spui. Then it is at most a 50 meter walk. 5. The hotel is close enough but also far enough to the Red light district (if that is your thing). You can walk to it (10-15 minute walk) but it is far away that the area is quiet and mellow. 6. Several train stations are all around that make it easy to catch a number of trains that will take you all over the city. (Parks, Van Gogh 7. Rooms were super clean 8. Double bed was not 2 beds put together. We actually had a queen bed made up of one mattress 9. Room was spacious and very comfortable (great bed.... yes we were in our honeymoon) If you can afford it, seriously consider spending the extra cash and stay here.
“Perfect location”
We have stayed at this hotel both times we visited Amsterdam. I highly recommend it. The location is excellent and right in the middle of great restaurants, sights and stores. To get there it is about a 10-15 minute walk from Central Station. Request a canal view room, the view is beautiful.
“Exellent location and great value for the money”
I had been to Amsterdam on business in 2004 and had stayed at one of the best (and most expensive) hotels in the city. This time around I was coming back to Amsterdam on vacation with a group of friends, and was looking for a good, inexpensive hotel in a nice location. NH City Centre exceeded my expectations! It is located on Spuistraat, one of the main streets, within walking distance from great restaurants, local bars and all the tourist attractions. The rooms have new, modern furniture, and are very comfortable. Ours overlooked the canal (Spuisgraaf), which was an added bonus.
“Great location and price”
Room was small by american standards but new furniture, clean linens and nice bathroom. I thought the staff were all very friendly and helpful with tourism advice and directions, they even called tourism places for us. they changed our room when a canal view came available w/out hassle. Maid came everyday and kept the room very clean. Soap smells nice too! The location was walking distance to central station and good location to walk to all other tourism attractions. Good restaurants on that street.

Canal Ring, Amsterdam, Netherlands: The classic Amsterdam image of stately canals, the Canal Loop is principally the Herengracht and Keizersgracht, lined with gracious tall 17th and 18th-century houses. Some of these are now museums, most notably the eccentric Kattenkabinet. The Amstel is a more down-to-earth waterway, lined with houseboats and famous for its classic muchphotographed Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge). The floating Flower Market is also a much-loved canal feature.
