"A very dated hotel - I can see how it might have been good in its day, but now very worn, and does not align with expectations of a modern 5 star hotel. Rooms are small, unkempt, with very thin walls. We could hear toilets flushing throughout the night, and every word said in the rooms next door. We even paid for a deluxe sea view room. Bathrooms are unhygienic - no door, or walls to the bathroom, just a glass panel."

"The hotel was beautiful and clean. It was in the center of the old town. Restaurants on the streets on either side of the hotel. Music everywhere. One block from the water and one block from the Main Street. Everything you could imagine was in walking distance of the hotel. The best part was the rooftop infinity pool and the views from the rooftop were spectacular. Best breakfast buffet ever and it’s included in the stay. I’d recommend Barcelo Funchal Oldtime to anyone who wants to experience Madeira."

"The staff were extremely helpful and kind. The rooms are very nice and clean. The breakfast was good, but would have been nice to switch up the food every once in a while just to have something different sometimes. Other than that we had a great stay here. Would definitely recommend and come back!"

"The hotel is set in a beautiful location with stunning views, and the rooms were clean, comfortable, and well maintained. Unfortunately, the overall experience fell far short of what I would expect from a five-star all-inclusive resort. The biggest disappointment was the food. The quality was poor, with meals feeling mass-produced and lacking the standard, variety, and freshness that should accompany a five-star offering. The main restaurant was also extremely noisy, making it difficult to enjoy a relaxed dining experience. The entertainment provided little value and was underwhelming throughout our stay. In addition, some of the finer details that distinguish a true five-star hotel were noticeably absent. For example, fresh bottled water was not replenished daily in the room, which is a basic amenity many guests would expect. While the property itself is attractive and the accommodation comfortable, the overall experience did not justify its five-star rating. If you are looking for a genuine luxury all-inclusive experience, I would recommend considering other options."

"This hotel would be great if it wasn’t for a couple of things. The pools close early. Sun goes down at 9pm, but all amenities are closed at 6pm. When you are done exploring for the day, the amenities are closed when you want to use them most. The room needs renovation. The pillows were terrible and the bed is stiff as a board. Parking is a nightmare. They advertise that they have parking, but it was sold out all 5 nights. The only other viable option is at the casino. It’s right next door and the same price nightly, but there are no in and out privileges. This leaves you having to plan your day around only leaving once, which limits your ability to leave multiple times a day. Don’t advertise that you have parking if it is always full. Other than that, great hotel. Beautiful views. And beautiful pools when they are open."

"Amazing place. The staff were so friendly and helpful. My room was lovely and cleaned every day. I went through so many bottles of water which were supplied by the hotel. It’s a nice walk into the main area with bars and restaurants. Easy to get a pickup for an excursion too. I really enjoyed my time at this hotel!"
