Large and clean rooms, great location and staff. Only downside is there is no restaurant/bar in the hotel, rather in the separate casino which is a bit sleazy for my tastes. "After an issue with my room that was resolved the next day, my stay at the Hotel Grano de Oro went very well. The hotel was converted from a former house, is well maintained, and my room was clean, comfortable with a modern bathroom and walk in shower. It is centrally located and a welcome oasis to return to after a day out spent sightseeing or touring. All of the staff are friendly, professional, service oriented, and many speak English which is very helpful for non-Spanish speakers. The restaurant has a welcoming ambiance and a very good breakfast, plus a varied menu for lunch and dinner. In particular I would like to acknowledge the excellent customer service I received from Mario, the General Manager; Carlos, Jazmin and Ramon in the restaurant for breakfast; and Catherine and the entire Front Desk team. Their patience, help and assistance during my stay was greatly appreciated. I highly recommend the Hotel Grano de Oro and will definitely stay there on my next visit to San José."

"Hotel Santo Tomas is a great find in the heart of old San Jose. From the outside it looks like nothing special, but once you get in, you realize it has lots of charm, a super hospitable staff, and a true historic feel. It’s not a typical tourist hotel but that’s part of the charm. I really enjoyed my stay there and recommend it warmly."
