8/10 Good
"BEAUTIFUL MAINTAINED GROUNDS. FRIENDLY HELPFUL STAFF. WE HAD A PARTIAL SEA VIEW BUNGALOW - THE VIEW WAS GOOD & BUNGALOWS ARE LOCATED IN A QUITE PART OF THE RESORT. LOVED OUR BALCONY ( RM 30). MAIN CRITICISM OF THE ROOM IS THE OVER BATH SHOWER. WHOEVER PLANNED PUTTING THE TAPS IN THE CENTRE OF THE BATH AS WELL AS THE WIRE RACK & SOAP DISPENSERS HAS NEVER TRIED TO STAND TAKING A SHOWER IN THE BATH WHILST FIGHTING THE PLASTIC SHOWER SHEET - IT IS DANGEROUS . I CANNOT IMAGINE HOW HEAVIER / LARGER PEOPLE MANAGE IT!!. RECEPTION - VERY RESPONSIVE TO ANY REQUESTS IE COFFEE NOT TOPPED UP WAS QUICKLY RESOLVED. RESORT AMENITIES: POOLS BEAUTIFUL & WELL MAINTAINED. AQUA PARK GOOD FUN. BARS/RESTAURANTS: MAIN BUFFET BREAKFAST - EXCELLENT FOOD CHOICES BUT VERY BUSY. BETTER OPTION HAVE BREAKFAST IN PERGOLA SIDE - TABLES WIDER SPACED - FEELS LESS HECTIC. LOVED THE GREEK RESTAURANT / FOOD & STAFF. AL A CARTE RESTAURANT LOVELY. BEACH BAR - LOVELY DRINKS BUT UNDER STAFFED SO SERVICE CAN BE VERY VERY SLOW!!! SERVICE AT MAIN BAR POOR WHEN ON LOWER LEVEL. FAILED TO BE SERVED OUR DRINKS ON 3 OCCASIONS WHEN ORDERED DOWNSTAIRS. RESORT IS VERY CHILD FRIENDLY. WOULD I GO BACK - PERSONALLY THINK THE AI PACKAGE IS OVERPRICED AND THE ROOMS ARE NOT REALLY 5*. IN SPITE OF THIS WE REALLY ENJOYED OUR STAY"

"We booked a room at the last minute. There will a little mix up upon arrival but the hotel upgraded us and bought us dinner to compensate us. Honestly, there was no need. The hotel was fabulous and the staff could not have been friendlier. The beach area was perfect and exactly what we wanted during our time in Greece. Rethymno is a lovely town and not nearly as busy as Chania, which made a huge difference. We would definitely go back to this hotel."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Megalo Metochi?
The best area to stay in Megalo Metochi is within the village itself or the immediate surrounding areas, offering a blend of traditional Cretan life and easy access to the region's attractions.Megalo Metochi is a small, traditional village located in the hills, known for its stone-built houses and olive groves. It provides a peaceful retreat away from the more bustling coastal resorts. The village centre is small, with a few local tavernas and shops, and it offers lovely views of the surrounding countryside down to the sea.Couples looking for a tranquil escape will find Megalo Metochi ideal. You can enjoy quiet evenings, local cuisine, and the experience of authentic village life. It's a great base for exploring the local area by car, including nearby walking trails and smaller, less crowded beaches. For travellers who appreciate a more secluded setting but still want convenient access to amenities, staying in a villa just outside the main village offers more space and privacy.
When is the best time to go to Megalo Metochi?
The best time to go to Megalo Metochi is during the late spring (May to early June) and early autumn (September to October).During these periods, the weather is pleasantly warm and sunny, ideal for exploring the region without the intense heat of mid-summer. You'll find the landscape lush and green in spring, and the sea is still warm enough for swimming in early autumn. This also avoids the peak tourist crowds and higher prices of July and August.Families often find late spring particularly appealing as the temperatures are comfortable for children to enjoy outdoor activities and the beaches are less crowded. There's also a good chance to experience local festivities before the main summer rush. For couples looking for a romantic escape, early autumn offers beautiful sunsets, warm evenings for dining al fresco, and a more relaxed pace.
