The WIE Village is unique in many ways...made from mostly local OBX re-purposed materials, combined with charm, accommodate 2 to 10 people. Two pods & main house borders 1600 acres of nature preserve within 2 mi of the beach. To accommodate larger parties, reserve Pod Messi &/or Pod Zeus in addition to Main House. The space This space adopted a Giant Tortoise - Travel with Purpose when you stay with us and assist in global efforts to help save this beautiful endangered species! This 1200 square feet home is a combination of mostly re-purposed wood from several houses, that have been torn down to make room for bigger beach houses. It has a fantastic beachy feel to it, and though it has a small footprint the feeling is spacious. Includes a fireplace to take the chill off. The WIE House is SO very unique it made it into the 2016 OBX Parade of Homes...learn more about the amenities and layouts by Googling "Parade of Homes OBX 2016" and go to House #11 ! Look forward to having you to one of the most unique properties you will ever stay in!!!! Guest access You will have the whole main house to yourself and your guests, including GOURMET Kitchen with a drip-style coffee maker! You will also have access to the sound (weather permitting) and a tandem kayak. (The kayak is available on a first-come first-serve basis as it can be used by any guests staying at the WIE Village.) Other things to note This is a beautiful waterfront location, and it may change your attitude for ever. Below is the story behind the WIE Village ! With green building in mind, we look to reuse and re-purpose materials that are left over from building large homes to create The WIE House. The first WIE House location is in an environmentally critical area, The Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina. This concept is not unique to the OBX, as we would like to see it grow to any location where there are leftover materials on the job-site. Whether it be a remodel job or new construction, the benefits to this project are the use of leftover building materials, resulting in less forest destruction, filling of landfills, all while cutting expenses for all involved! The WIE House is small in physical size, but big in quality of living. The WIE House is built to be as maintenance-free, and as energy-efficient as possible; including environmentally friendly items such as, metal roofs, rain water wine barrels to water landscaping, passive solar energy to maintain all exterior lighting, and all permeable walkways to prevent runoff to name a few! A walkway will wind you up to the house that sits atop a hill and because lot clearing is kept to a minimum no driving of vehicles allowed on the lot. Another goal of The WIE House concept is for local municipalities to get on board and see the value of higher density houses on property as opposed to the single Mega-Home! The first WIE House was built on a lot owned by Jim Douglas on the Roanoke Sound, bordering the Kitty Hawk Maritime Forest became available for rent during Spring 2017. The views of the sound are amazing. We was able to checkin a little early which was great. Enjoyed sitting on the deck, having drinks and using the firepit on the chilly evenings. The bedrooms had king size beds and that is nice. The walkin showers are huge with double shower heads on two walls. We saw lots of deer each day. Communication with the owner was easy and response quick. Place is great for two couples. They also have 2 additional pod buildings you can rent which are so cute. Kitchen is the best setup for cooking that we've seen a quite a long time of many rentals - a professional-level gas stove, and fully equipped with pots/pans/cutting boards/etc. Carawan's Seafood is but a couple of minutes away, terrific. Beds firm. There is some traffic noise outside from the bridge - distant, but unimpeded since across the water - otherwise, things are pretty much perfect. We saw river otter, deer, lots of ospreys from the house; and the beach and multiple maritime forest hikes are close by since you're in between Nags Head and Duck/Corolla. ##### William J. Beds were super comfortable and the showers were huge! We only stayed one night so i was sad we had to leave!! Gia was an amazing communicator and made everything in regards to our stay simple, from check in to check out. The house was a beautiful, eclectic home. It was very obvious that great care had gone into decorating this unique home and it was spotlessly clean! Gia was so helpful, friendly, professional and just an all-around nice person with whom to deal. The property itself was amazing… I will be posting pictures of the most amazing sunsets.
