Plaza Vazquez de Mella, 12, Madrid - Map
"Great hotel in the middle of everything!"
The hotel is two streets from the Gran Via and faces a plaza that has a bar. Also within a few blocks is a bakery with excellent croissants and baked goods and many bars and restaurants. The room we stayed in was an executive with window views and a little extra space. Beds and pillows were very comfortable for Europe, the bathroom was very large for the area with a great shower. Big closets, safe and blow dryer in room, desk, small couch, and small fridge made the room excellent! Hotel staff is extra friendly and speaks English. We did not try the breakfast on site as the nearby bakery was too good to pass up! Only complaint is the housecleaning staff did not restock all items every day in the room (coffee packets, soap, etc.) but I did not mention it to the desk because I had my own items.

Calle San Marcos, 8, Madrid - Map
"Very central, well designed"
Very central, lots of shops and restaurants Nice refurbished apartments, well decorated. The building is a bit old, The stairs are not great and the lift is a little bit temperamental. Would recommend it but the only thing I absolutely did not like was having the cleaning staff at 11am sharp waiting at the door on a Sunday morning - even if advised that Is Check out time. Also a little strict with check in between 3-8pm so you need to check your flights or will incur late check in penalty...

"Fairly good value."
Madrid hotels aren't cheap. If you want cheap you won't get many frills. This Hostal is competitively priced in a good lively area , near to 2 metro stations and many of the places worth visiting - not to mention loads of tapas bars. However the walls are very thin. You'll be disturbed by noise inside and outside hostal throughout night -which is not a problem if you have sensibly visited local bars - open well into early hours. Ear plugs made all the difference.Xavier on desk very helpful. BTW Expedia price was £10 a night cheaper than nearest rival.

"Ignore the front and the entrance - good room"
I hadn't made ANY reservations before leaving, so I just needed a room. With such a low price, I prepared myself for the worst (college backpacking days). I arrived early (around 10am). I recognized the outside by the picture on Expedia. I lugged my suitcase, bag and carry-on up 3 flights of stairs. The hallway is also no frills. There was no reception - just the person with the reservation book + the room wasn't going to be ready before 2pm, since it was still occupied. I started to worry, but thought I'd just cancel at the last minute if I was really not happy. So I walked around and made it back by around 1:30pm, the room was ready. I breathed a sigh of relief because the room was perfectly nice: a typical no-frills, but clean room. The shower is minuscule. Look beyond all of that and you get an excellent deal. I was there for 1 night. AC worked well, bed was comfy and clean. Happy customer.

"Great Location, great Service"
The Hostel is located just steps from Gran Via and also inside the Chueva neighborhood, just steps away from great nightclubs, restaurants, metro stations, etc. From here you can walk to Callao, Puerta del Sol, Fuente de Cibeles. Overall is very centric. They make your bed everyday and clean up the bathroom. Also, the staff members are great and the place is very safe. Next time, i will be staying in the same place! :)

    Chueca Hotels Guide

A down-at-heel central area in the 1980s, Chueca is now the fashionable gay heart of the city. The Plaza de Chueca is its epicentre, with countless terraces, bars and clubs in and around it. The surrounding streets are packed with cutting-edge shops and restaurants as well as traditional tapas bars. Don’t miss the Museo Municipal on Fuencarral, with its fine baroque entrance and Habsburg treasures within.
