The room was clean, no frills but sufficient for what we wanted. The breakfast was excellent. The staff was great (Georgia’s, Pavlos and Sofia) - very friendly and helpful. The major downside is there are a lot of homeless and drug addicts in the surrounding streets. Also parking is nonexistent even to drop off luggage. You have to park around the corner at a garage which was an easy walk to the hotel. The Main Street is one way so if you miss the turn for the parking (we did), you may have to figure out how to circle back around. For us, a friendly man from another parking garage literally guided us to the right one. May this man receive a blessing for his kindness!

Room was huge and right above the street that proved to be a neighbourhood meeting place, which was fun to watch. Bathroom and shower was super. Breakfast, which we had to pay for was uninspiring. Young Emilia at the front desk is a national treasure!

The hotel is very cute, very compact room but we did book the cheapest option. Only fault was the main shower head was spraying over the cubicle and wetting the room and floor so had to use the hand attachment to shower. Breakfast is basic but lovely morning view from the rooftop. I would book again but will choose the queen room next time.

I loved the hotel. The staff is extremely helpful and made sure my stay was beyond amazing. It’s good to remember that Athens is a big city. As with any city you should be aware of your surroundings. I was told this was not a great part of town but I thought it was perfect. It didn’t feel unsafe to me and it was in walking distance to a lot of shopping and sights. Plus the rooftop bar is a great place to relax and unwind at the end of a long day. Highly recommend the Dunlin.

Although the property/hotel itself is clean and located near most attractions, the surrounding area is really bad and unsafe. Lots of trash and loitering junkies.

Area is unsafe, watch out for syringes!
The street this hotel is located on is awful and unsafe. Upon arrival before checking in we were harassed for money from a pushy junkie on the doorstep of the hotel. Our first walk outside of the hotel and we bumped into two junkies injecting into their arms on the street of the hotel. Over the course of 4 days we saw multiple instances of drug deals taking place, drugs being consumed, a fight and the place is littered with used needles on the side walks, in the gutters, gardens etc. This area is simply unsafe, undesirable and I wish I could have left for someone else as soon as a I arrived. I understand places like this exist, but the Hotels attitude when looking at reviews is incredibly poor. They say there are constantly police guarding the church - there was not, we never saw one. They say this "problem" exists in all major cities - sure, it might, but I don't want to stay on those streets. There's not a whole lot I expect the hotel to do except acknowledge the issue and be transparent about it rather than downplaying it. Perhaps inform guests about some precautions they could take to remain safe such as best routes to take when accessing the hotel and places to avoid.

Do not pay for their breakfast. If you need a good cup of coffee, they give you coffee from a machine which is horrible. When I expressed my view she had a terrible attitude before I get a good cup of coffee from them and do not expect to get your refund if you don’t use the breakfast voucher.

Overall, it had everything we needed- a bed, shower, good aircon, fridge to keep things cool, and quiet, however the room was a little small. Unfortunately, we woke up on the first night to the smell of smoke in our room. When mentioning it to the staff, they were not super helpful or efficient in their efforts to sort it. We felt like we had to push for something to be done about it. Unfortunately we felt that they didn’t care about resolving the issue. After pushing, they found that the issue was the room below (the person had been smoking in their bathroom) and the room was cleaned. Although they couldn’t have helped the fact that the person below was smoking (despite the fact we were told on checking in to not smoke in the room), the staff member we spoke to didn’t deal with it as efficiently as we would have hoped. One thing to note, is the area is not the nicest. One of the positives is the shops around are cheaper than the shops more centrally located and it is close to the metro. However, I wouldn’t advise any women- be it in groups or solo to stay in the area, as my girlfriend mentioned to me that she felt unsafe walking through the area at night time. Overall, you’re getting what you pay for

Hotel was good, very friendly staff. Room was very clean. Convenient to the Acropolis. I recommend walking as you pass a great center with some good restaurants as well as a few other ruins along the way. My only gripe is while it is in walking distance of good parts of the city it’s also very near some less than good parts of the city. Bed comfort was okay. Good hotel, I would recommend for anyone wanting to visit the Parthenon and stay close. Not sure I would make a week out of it but only because of the location.

Our stay was end of June 2023 with family, including children. The staff on the front desk were all very pleasant, helpful and spoke good English. The bedrooms and bathrooms were updated and the air conditioning worked well. The breakfast room was exactly as it appears in the photos: stunning views of the entire city. The location was excellent, just a couple of minutes walk to Omonia Square which has a metro stop and several cafes and restaurants. We were able to walk to the parliament, and to the Plaka district below the Acropolis, which has plenty of shopping and restaurants. Some of the side streets near the hotel had some apparent drug addicts and such, but they never bothered us in any way, and we just walked smartly, just as in any other big city.

Really enjoyed my stay there. The staff were really helpful, especially when there was a problem with the shuttle to the airport. The room was nice and clean - a little on the basic side (no mini-bar, the hanging space was not in a cupboard, no iron, etc), but perfect for my needs. The only problem was the location - it was central and great for getting around Athens, but some of the side streets have drug addicts actually shooting up on the footpath in the middle of the day. I'd read reviews saying there were drug addicts around, but didn't realise I'd be walking past them actually injecting themselves! I guess that's more of an Athens' problem (that will affect many hotels) rather than a problem with the Dunhill and I still felt totally safe (they were sad/tired, not crazy/dangerous), but if you don't want to witness that, then steer clear of the side streets.

Almost perfect stay in Athens
I had an almost perfect stay at the Dunlin Hotel. The less than perfect part was the specific street/neighborhood that it is in, and that is something which is beyond the control of the hotel anyway, so I would not hold them accountable for it. As commented by a few reviewers previously, the neighborhood is sketchy and there were some people yelling out loudly in the middle of the night, etc. That didn't really bother me as I felt safe inside the hotel. Also, I was out one night and didn't get back until after 11pm. There was a police car outside by the church and 2 policemen were watching. while 3 suspicious persons loitering outside the hotel. But because the policemen were there, I felt safe enough to hurry past those 3. I then mentioned it to the receptionist and she actually told me that she contacted the police department and asked them to keep watch on the street. I had a chat the next day with a colleague who's based in Athens and he mentioned that the street was sketchy, but he said that it was not the worse as there were much worse neighborhoods. Overall I think the hotel was still a very good deal, and very clean and comfortable, with very helpful and friendly staff. I may consider staying here if I visit Athens again, and I will walk on the main street (Konstantinou) to get to/from the Omonia metro station instead of the smaller side streets.
