Getting old Posted 12-Nov-2014
This hotel, which is about a 15 minute drive from the airport and located on Pembina highway about 3 kms from the University of Manitoba, is starting to show its age. The room was clean although the furniture was stained in some places, such as on the arms of the armchair. Threads on the pillow case were coming loose, and there were threads hanging off the edges of the sheets. There were six pillows, but they were all the same kind - the soft, billowing ones that don't really support your neck and head. The hangar bars in the closet area (it's not closed off, just a small alcove near the door) are so low that pants on proper pants hangars drag on the floor. If you leave the luggage rack in the closet area , you can't even hang a shirt. The bathroom is well equipped, with an easily adjusted shower head. The temperature of the shower varied from luke warm to cold when I showered. As this was a handicapped room, there were lots of well placed bars and rails which I used and appreciated. One thing that annoyed me was the sound the heater/air conditioner made. Every time the unit turned on, it made what sounded like a muffled 'thud'. The noise wasn't really loud, but loud enough to wake me up every time it kicked in. And it kicked in about every 1/2 hour all night. What really sets this hotel apart from other hotels, however, is its staff. Even when working double shifts, the staff were consistently cheerful, friendly and helpful, especially the lad picking up the laundry.
