2 night stay. Quiet, comfortable, and private. We stayed in the garage apartment which is seperate from the house. 10 minute walk to downtown restaurants, shops, and nightlife. I would highly recommend.

Nice Guest Apartment with Great Location
Cute guest house in a nice, central location in Reykjavik. This is an "annex" off the Main House about a five-ten minute walk from the main downtown area and old harbor. Quiet and cozy; nothing fancy; self-serve. Very "Air B&B" like. Internet and satellite TV provided, plus a few extras like microwave, stove, electric tea kettle, silverware and pots and pans...which was really nice. There are some nice little bonuses as well, like plastic wrap, spices, condiments, etc from past guests so you don't have to pick up all that stuff--although you should do an inventory before hitting the supermarket. As for the supermarkets, there are a few small ones downtown that are convenient, but a bit spendy. There is a Kronan and a Bonus by the museums at the old harbor (about 10 minute walk). We hit them and found the pricing much more in line with what we were used to in the US for most things where a lot of restaurants and mini markets were 50 to 100% more than what you'd expect. Yikes. So, hitting the market and cooking here was WAAAAY more economical than eating out (Pizza $20, Subway Footlong $16). Bear in mind that it is a quaint and quiet guest house and not a hotel. As long as you understand that you'll really appreciate it and the value that goes with it. Looking forward to coming back again.

Exactly what we needed
Place was spacious, kitchen well equipped - for example condiments such as salt and oil for cooking etc we assume have been left by previous guests/provided - this was great. There was a sturdy griddle pan as well as the usual stuff such as coffee machine and microwave - the kettle however was a welcome addition for making tea! along with a table to sit at. The annex has a modern bathroom with toilet and shower, which like every Icelandic place i've stayed has great pressure and hot water immediately, heating controls in each room were easy to adjust. There is a 2 person sofa, coffee table and TV with numerous channels, we found a few that were English language (with icelandic subtitles), as well as music channels. the bedroom has a very comfy bed, wardrobe, bedside tables etc. The pillows weren't quite high enough for us despite having 2 each as they were down pillows and that really was the only thing we can fault (although again this is a common occurrence for us) - this didn't stop us from having several great lie-ins. The location was great, we've stayed in this area before so it was good to be in the same area, so quick to walk the bars/restaurants as well as the local pool. Wifi was great, instructions and advice received from owners was great, we really enjoyed our stay. Would stay again.

Thanks Karen for taking time to review our apartment. We do appreciate it very much. Sorry about the pillows. Just to clarify they are not down as we strive to have all material allergy neutral. Please contact us for extra pillows should you visit us again. Regards Jón

Perfect Location. Great for Oceland
During our trip to Iceland we found it can be very expensive. This place was an excellent price and also had a fridge and hot plate which meant we could save money on eating out (which was usually 90-130 cad per meal for two people). It was walking distance so pretty much everything. It's a two minute drive from two Grocery stores. Aswell as a 5 min walk to city centre. I could love to stay here again.

Apartment in old Reyjavik house 4 blks from dwntwn
This unit is a downstairs apartment in an old house about 4 blks from Reykjavik city center. Great location! Price was right. Next to the Finish ambassador's residence. The apartment itself is old and is a little rough around the edges, but it is very spacious and has everything you need. Jon (pron Yone) is the property mgr and was very nice and accessible.

Good place to Stay
Very pleasant, well maintained apartment with great location near the center. Having kitchen facilities was a nice plus, but the kitchen was short on cooking utensils. Like everywhere else in Iceland, it is ferociously expensive for what it is, but there seems to be no escaping this.

Apartments 5 mins walk from center
We enjoyed our stay at 32 Tungata. The apartments are quite adequate for people who don't expect service 24/7 and can manage to take care of themselves. The kitchen has what you need for making breakfast and light meals. The location is good: close to center (west end of town), quiet, attractive neighborhood (many embassies). The landlord, who lives off-site, dealt with our e-mail request for some extra pillows very quickly. There are food stores and restaurants within 5 mins walk. Museums and other attractions are 5-15 mins away walking. Iceland is a well-functioning modern society (wi-fi everywhere, credit cards seem to be the preferred mode of payment, except for city buses), but it is not called Iceland for nothing. Bring warm clothing (layers), wet-weather gear and good walking shoes. The hot water (and the heating) for all of Iceland comes from underground hot springs and has a slightly mineral smell - people recommend not drinking from the hot water tap, but the cold water is pure and tasty.

Perfect family bolthole in Reykjavik!
Reykjavik is expensive. There is no getting around it. It is also super interesting and beautiful, as is Iceland overall. But hotel prices can make you blanch, and that's before you get to the cost of everything else. We were delighted to find 32, Tungata, which is essentially a two-bedroom apartment in the lower level of a house on "Embassy Row". It is easy walking distance to everything in the centre of Reykjavik, and is basic, clean and comfortable. It is an older home, so don't expect brand new tiling and fancy paint colours. But if you want comfy beds with cushy duvets and a serviceable eat-in kitchen for a family of four, you can't go wrong. The hosts are very helpful, and every question was answered with speed and due diligence. As the author of a book on traveling with babies and toddlers, I've learned how to spot winners, and this was one for us.

Comfortable, Clean and Close to town
This is a very comfortable, clean and quiet area in Reykavik. Many of the tour buses were able to pick us up right outside our door, even though it was not right down town. It is very quiet, especially on weekends when the bar scene goes on until the early hours. The double bed is very generous. Already recommended this to a friend.

Quiet neighborhood close to city center
We were very happy with our stay in the 2-bedroom basement apartment. It was very clean, and though we checked out a little late (our fault entirely), the staff was more than courteous and understanding. The apartment had Wifi and a fully equipped kitchen, though no washing machine. We booked a tour with Reykjavik Excursions, which did not pick up at 32 Tungata but did pick us up in front of another hotel a 5-minute walk away. The neighborhood is quiet and residential but within easy walking distance from the city and shopping. We would definitely stay here again.

Very good accomodations
We stayed in the spacious family apartment for 6 nights and it was very comfortable. The only things that could be impoved are the kitchen accoutrements, such as having more dishes, coffee mugs, and things like a spatula. And not having other guests arriving without a way of getting into their room and waking you up at 6:30 am. Besides these small annoyances the apartment was fantastic and the location can't be beat. Quiet neighborhood but onlt 10 min walk from downtown.

Very Functional Accommodations
If you're looking for a clean 1 BR apartment that is a short walk to downtown Reykjavik, and that does not cost as much as a hotel located in the center of town, this guesthouse fits the bill. You do need to bring your own soap and shampoo, but new towels and linens were delivered every few days. There is a small kitchen just off the sitting area that worked great for breakfasts and packing lunches to take on our daily excursions. We also appreciated receiving an email from the owner during our stay asking if we needed anything, which we didn't.

Nice apartment in the city
We stayed 5 days. This is more like renting a small apartment than a hotel room, as there was no maid service or hotel amenities. We liked this because it felt like we were living in the community instead of just tourists. We took advantage of the kitchen and cooked several meals at home. The room could use a little more furniture and cookware but we had no real complaints. The location is excellent, walking distance to downtown, the docks, and two large supermarkets. We walked a half-mile to the dock to rent bikes and used the bikes to get all over town. There is also a laundromat nearby. We only saw the manager once when we arrived. He was extremely friendly, and let us move in a few hours ahead of schedule. We had his phone number in case anything went wrong, but nothing did.

not a great hotel alternative
This location was great, however not the best hotel alternative. luckily a renter was home at the house when we arrived and helped us guess that our unit was off to the side of the house (owner never answered his phone). Then we guessed our unit was the renovated garage, that is not shown in the photo. We only had 2 towels for us for 4 days 3 nights and no soap for the shower. The internet was very intermittent, and again, Owner never answered our call and had no voice mail to leave a message. They also mentioned guide help in the review and since we could never get a hold of anyone, not sure how that would happen. We would not stay here again.

Convenient
The apartment is conveniently located within walkign distance of central Reykjavik, a grocery store, etc. Given the very high cost of food and dining in Iceland, this particular hotel apartment can be recommended because it has a kitchen, which makes it possible for guests to prepare much of their own food. Also the second bedroom makes this a good palce for a small party of, say, two couples, or a family with a child or two. The high cost of everything in Iceland is a deterrent, however.

Nice if you like garage conversions
Was expecting to stay in the very attractive house pictured on the advertisement. In reality, we were staying in a converted garage to the side of the house. Whilst this was clean and reasonably comfortable, it did not really meet our expectations. The "fully equipped kitchen" had the bare minimum of utensils and only two cooking rings - no oven. Fortunately, Reykjavik has an excellent selection of restaurants. On the plus side, parking is free and the house is in an excellent quiet location but very close to the city centre, and the apartment cost was reasonably. If we had known where we were going to stay, then it would have been fine - but the reality did not meet the expectation.

Two night stay July 2014
This stay was okay and any disappointment was one of expectation. We stayed in the adjoining apartment which is a converted garage. The arrangement is more "housekeeping cottage" than hotel. There is no host presence on the site, so no assistance with peripheral needs such as arranging tours or airport transportation or restaurant recommendations. This is important as we found Reykjavik somewhat difficult for non-Icelandic speakers (compared with other European cities) - surprising since so few tourists would come with any language ability. The suite itself was minimally equipped but clean and comfortable enough. The location is excellent - with most city features within easy walking distance. Quiet except for a yapping dog one night. The main problem for us was the listing coming up under hotels - perhaps we should have understood the implications of the term "guest house" as being something different.

Quiet, comfortable, great location, terrific!
The apt. was exactly as described. It was roomy, quiet, in a great neighborhood and an easy walk to downtown. We got the key with no trouble. There is a bus from the airport that will take you right to the neighborhood. We took a tour, and were able to be picked up at a nearby hotel by the day tour bus. Having the kitchen really saved us money. We found everything we needed and there were even maps and tour books in the house. Don't miss the natural sites and the Blue Lagoon (all pricy, but very worth it! 32 Tungata was a great place at a great price.

Clean, comfortable, convenient and cheap
June 2013 in the "garden" one bedroom apartment. Everything is to our taste. Not plush but clean, comfortable, convenient and cheap. Very good sleeping. Fridge, cook top, dishes and utensils make it possible to not starve and not go broke in Reykjavik as you will do one of if you always eat out. Location is walking close to City Center and whale watching piers. Very next house is Finnish Embassy. Super WiFi. Good TV with poor channels. Rating "Very Good" is general, "Excellent" for us might not be "Four Stars" for my those used to usual hotels.

Great location a few minutes walk from the center of town. Really quiet neighborhood. Book the bus from the airport online before you come, they told us they didn't know where this was even though it was listed on their website... which led to some confusion. Reasonable rate, Very clean, little kitchenette included so you can have food there if you want. My only complaint is that the wireless wasn't working and Jon the owner went on vacation while we were staying there so we wern't able to ask him to fix it. He and his family were really nice and had they been around I am sure they would have seen to it.

Painter's delight
We found it a comfortable apartment very well located near the city centre. The owners were painting the main house at the time, which was no intrusion and gave us a chance to chat with them. The only flaw we found was the lack of a blind in the kitchen to keep out the light and also for privacy.
