“Perfect location for the Powell's Bookstore, nice and cozy hotel!”
We stayed at the 2 Queen beds suite with a little kid and it was quite nice stay. We were looking for a hotel near Powell's Books and the Mark Spencer Hotel seemed to be the best choice. And we were right! The location is great and very close to the famous bookstore. The room had separate bedroom, living room with kitchen and bathroom. All rooms are very clean and great for family trip. The 2 Queen Suite room is highly recommended! The hotel staff were all friendly.
“Definitely would recommend”
Was in town for just one night, needed a cheap place to sleep. Definitely worth the money. Clean and well maintained, nice free breakfast and coffee. Would definitely stay here again.
“Great place near the Pearl District”
Very clean and friendly, the staff went above and beyone to make our stay special. The daily wine tasting is awesome. A very nice place to stay near the Pearl District.
“Our New Portland Home”
Friendly staff, free wine and in the middle of everything.
“Great location, great deal”
If nothing else, the location of this hotel is perfect for a fun night in downtown Portland. The service staff here was faaaaaabulous, and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice a room I got here for such a reasonable price. Definitely will stay here again.
“I will definitely stay here again.”
I consider downtown Portland to be my old stomping ground when I was a teen. I'd always known of the Mark Spencer and knew exactly where it was. Now a frequent visitor of the Portland area, it's only natural to want to stay in the area I'm most familiar with. Well, a lot has changed. Portland is amass of condos, chic shopping and on going construction. With that, the Mark Spencer still stands at the pinnacle of old-school/old-world charm. Upon check in I was greeted with smiles and genuine "hellos" . The staff was kind and acknowledged me when I left and came back. The room was perfect for my needs (with a kitchenette that was larger than the one in my apartment and the bathroom shower could fit about five people comfortably... though I didn't test that theory). I could have stayed a week and felt at home. I was only disappointed that I didn't have a view from my window (it looked into the building next door) and, unfortunately, the roof garden was under construction and I couldn't go up to enjoy the summer mornings. This falls under the "bad luck" category more than "points off" for the hotel. Next time I'll ask for a view and hope the roof is ready!
“Great value, good location, Euro style”
Despite its bargain rates, the Mark Spencer goes the extra mile in amenities -- free 24/7 capuccino/chai machine, decent free breakfast, free wine and cheese in the afternoon, lots of free maps and tourist info, friendly staff. Location is convenient to Pearl District, downtown, and the transit mall; some of the best food-cart "pods" are just a couple of blocks away, and the amazing Powell Books is across the street. Decent sized rooms, kitchenettes, and a relaxing library/lounge add to the value and experience.
“Great hotel in a great location!”
The Mark Spencer is located in a great location in downtown Portland. Within walking distance of great restaurants, bars and attractions. And close to all major public transportation. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and tidy. The small kithcen was great. We did not use the stove, but having a fridge was convenient for keeping cold water in stock and for leftovers. The free continental breakfast was one of the better ones I've seen: croissants, muffins, hot and cold cereal, fresh fruit, coffee and oj. We really liked the Mark Spencer and will stay there again when we return!
“Great except for view!”
Very comfortable and well appointed. Only thing I didn't like was that our rooms looked out on a building with an ugly mural painted on it. Being so close to the other building made the rooms a bit dark and dreary. The staff told me all of the suites were on that side of the building. I would stay there again, but would get a room rather than a suite to hopefully have a view. (We were on the 4th floor - maybe suites on the top few floor were above the building next door?) The hotel was well located, the restaurant was terrific, and the service was excellent.
“A treasure in Portland”
We'd walked past it before and are very pleased we finally stayed there. With courteous folk at check-in, tasty and tasteful afternoon tea and breakfast, and a comfortable room, the stay was quite nice and extremely reasonably priced. Added bonus was the in-room kitchenette so we could bring in our own dinner from nearby Whole Foods Market. We now have a new home away from home in Portland.
