Cleanliness not next to godliness

Posted 22-Jul-2014
The hotel room was spacious, but the bathroom was extremely small. I would have preferred a smaller room for a larger bathroom that you could actually turn around in. Overall, the hotel was okay. It was walking distance to downtown, and if you prefer not to walk, you could take a 2-3 minute free shuttle ride. The front desk staff was friendly, but the cleaning staff was disappointing. There was crud in the sink. We tried to clean it with an extra wash cloth but it was caked on. There was residue in the toilet which grossed me out. I just tried not to look. We came back to the room once after it had been cleaned and our blanket from the bed was sprawled on the floor. Weird. I could tell that the tub was not cleaned because the water pooled around your feet as you showered because it did not drain quickly enough and it left a ring around the tub. I had to get out of the shower to wash my feet. The next time we visit Portland we will probably stay at a downtown hotel for the convenience. Hopefully we will find a hotel that places more of an emphasis on cleanliness so that we can be a bit more comfortable.

Nice hotel, not wheelchair friendly if it rains

Posted 20-Jul-2014
Entrance is niot wheelchair friendly. There is a step to get in. There is a ramp that is to the side of the main entrance, if it's raining the person in the chair and whomever is pushing would get soaked. The hotel staff wasn't receptive to ask management to put a small ramp. Other than that, it was a good stay. Shuttle service was excellent, rooms were comfortable and clean.

Pros: Everything. See above.
Cons: Bar/lounge could be open more hours.
Friendly and efficient staff. Walking distance to many local destinations. Clean and comfortable. Wouldn't look to stay anywhere else in Portland if we visit again.

Convenient Portland Hotel

Very conveniently located hotel especially for art gallery, Commercial Street and restaurants. The staff were so helpful. I used the pool twice and enjoyed a peaceful swim each time. Would stay there again.

Great hotel in a good location

Posted 29-May-2014
Pros: The shuttle service!
This hotel exceeded my expectations. I have been to other Holiday Inns but this one had the best service (eg. reception, complimentary shuttle service) and the hotel looked great!

Bad mannered staff.

I was accused by one of the waitresses for trying to check out of the Hotel without paying for breakfast so when I spoke with the Manager I didn't like his attitude to the point I told him I would never return to this Holiday Inn.

Centric and convenient

Posted 22-May-2014
Only 5 minutes walk to old port, so why paying USD 100 more on the hotels that are in old port? Very convenient indoor parking for only USD 10/day. Breakfast was not included in rate but breakfast prices at hotel are reasonable, and there are many options in one block distance (diners, Starbucks, Dunkin, etc). Definetly my choice next time I go to Portland.

Pros: Convenience & price compared to those in area.
Cons: Front desk was little backed up when checking in and out.
Location: Excellent location and lots to do. Close to Old Port.

Great location and friendly staff

Cons: The difficulty we had was with expedia, who promised that the smoking double room would be changed to nonsmoking king at check in. Never happened.
The hotel staff were so pleasant. We had to cancel one of our rooms at the last minute due to flight cancellation and they were so helpful, waiving the charge. The shuttle service to the airport and area venues is so convenient. We attended a graduation and had the shuttle take us to the auditorium 7 blocks away. They also picked us up from the restaurant after dinner.
