Fabulous building

A great building at a superb location, with much tradition but disappointing use of the facilities and mediocre management.

Hotel Negresco Oct 8 - Oct 11, 2014

Posted 18-Oct-2014
An historic hotel in a beautiful setting. Large and comfortable rooms overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Service was exceptional. Lobby floor lounge was grand yet cozy. The property does have some quirks and travelers comfortable only with the most modern of amenities may be happier elsewhere. Michelin two star rated restaurant which was exceptional.

Quirky but Great

Posted 14-Oct-2014
Pros: Everything
Cons: Indoor swimming pool, as I am not a great lover of beaches, particularly pebbly beaches
Location: It was our first visit to Nice, for a long weekend so only had two full days there, so just strolled around the market in the Old City.
The Belle Epoque style of this hotel gives it a certain quirkiness, however, in a nice way and of course it has a history of celebrity guests. The hotel came up to expectations, the room was excellent, the staff attentive, the amenities first class. We enjoyed every moment there and will definitely go back. The two michelin starred Chantecler restaurant was outstanding and ranked with any other restaurant of this class that we have dined at which is quite a lot. We had the Discovery Menu and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the experience of fine dining at this level.

Simply Superb!

The Hotel is most luxurious but unique and beautifully situated on the sea. The staff are extremely well trained as you would expect but surprisingly they are so warm and friendly. The actual room was highly individualistic and very spacious and appointed to a very high level of luxury. It was furnished with one of the largest and most comfortable beds in which I've ever slept . I cannot praise this hotel enough!!!

WOW

Posted 6-Oct-2014
Pros: Everything
Cons: Prices in the bar and restaurant a bit steep but quality is quality.
Location: Perfect location in the middle of the beach.
I've stayed in a lot of upper class hotels and can say this property rates up there with the best. Check-in was smooth and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. Quality staff makes such a difference. The hotel has been in operation for 100 years now and the building has clearly been cared for. Each floor contains original art with themes from old classic to new modern. You could spend a couple of hours just looking at the art but why do that when the location is right in the middle of the action in Nice. Stayed in both a court yard and ocean front room. Both were excellent. We didn't want to leave. Thank you Negresco.

Famous but not all great

Common parts are amazing. Staff are amazing all as you would expect from this world famous location. But rooms and particularly bathrooms are poor and desperately in need of refurbishment to be current day lux.

Historic, iconic, artistic but ultimately ordinary

Posted 6-Sep-2014
Pros: The staff were all wonderful. The porters, receptionists & bar staff were excellent.
Cons: The complimentary wifi was only accessible in the bathroom. The breakfast in La Rotonde was a scrum. Brick up ALL connecting doors.
Location: Great beach club opposite (Neptune Plage) for breakfast, lunch, sun beds etc
It's the world famous Negresco. If you tell friends you are staying in Nice; those in the know ask if you're staying at the Negresco. It's nice to say "we are". This was our ninth trip to Nice but our first stay at the Negresco. We had booked a superior room which was similar in price to the Meditereanee Hotel and a little cheaper than the Boscolo Exedra. The Negresco looks amazing outside and in. The walls of the lobby and central atrium are clad in paintings (mostly of the owner) and there are beautiful statues, objet d'art and furniture everywhere. However, ultimately your room is what you are paying for and ours was ordinary. Not small, not big. No wonderful little luxuries that can make 5* hotels addictive. The TV was on the fridge, neither were built into the furniture. Our bin was removed on day 1 and never seen again. We had an adjoining door to the next room (do people really request these rooms) which nullified any privacy my wife and I were going to have as we could hear every word our neighbours said (they were not shouting, just chatting.) The whole thing just made us feel a bit deflated. There was no chance to move room as we had been assured the hotel was full to bursting as we arrived at reception.
