Newport visitPosted 14-Sep-2014
Hotel was a good value. Clean, friendly, close to Retro dinner and Applebee's on premises. 10 mins. to Wharf area. Parking difficult in town. Shuttle available. Would stay there again.

Nice hotel close to super market and foodsPosted 10-Sep-2014
Pros: Very close to supermarket and easy get what you need.
Cons: Make it easier to find.
Location: A conference
Everything is good. A little bit tricky to find the place since it is to the back of an applebee. The morning before our leaving the water pour back from the tub, seems someone blocked it. But we already had done the shower so nothing to blame.

Mold ridden buildingsPosted 10-Sep-2014
Pros: The beds were clean. The bathroom was clean too.
Cons: Get rid of the mildew and mold smell. It is really bad!
Location: Newport RI Howard Johnsons was just purchased by Wyndham resorts. Maybe Wyndham will clean it up. If not, I do not want to return there.
The building is full of mold and mildew. I stayed for 3 nights but would've liked to have changed hotels. I have an allergy to mildew and this building was full of it. You can smell it as soon as you walk into the building. If you open the sliding door to the balcony, the fresh air helps, but the fan on the ventilation system automatically shuts down when you open the door. I guess they are trying to save energy on A/C. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean...other than the mildew/mold smell.

It was awesome and an ideal for a getaway!Posted 5-Sep-2014
Pros: The staff was extremely friendly and the room was spacious and very clean.
Cons: Nothing awesome!
Location: 15-minute walk to Newport, breakfast at The Hungry Monkey is great and best lobster roll is at Anthony's Seafood on Aquidneck!
I've stayed here once before and decided when coming back to RI to stay in this location, because it was ideal if you wanted to spend time in Newport and not want to spend an arm and leg on hotel prices. Great location close to restaurants and shops....will definitely come back here again!

Family BusinessPosted 3-Sep-2014
Pros: Clean Quiet Comfortable. Great place for the price.
Cons: Needs a bigger lobby and halls need to be updated.
Location: Shuttle service to the wharf area in Newport.
From the area and visiting for family events. What a surprise to find the old Howard Johnson remodeled. The halls and the lobby need to be updated but the rooms (2 queen) are spacious, clean, updated and very quiet. The beds are very comfortable. The staff are excellent and know their stuff. Great service. It also offers a shuttle to the wharf area in Newport.

Good locationPosted 3-Sep-2014
Cons: The screen door to the balcony fell off when it was touched.
The hotel is in a good location, central to most of the attractions. The staff were friendly and very helpful when approached. The room was ok for size but the bed was not comfortable.

Pros: Location, cleanliness, shuttle
We stayed here for two nights while visiting Newport for the first time because the price/location were right and the reviews were generally positive. The motel is conveniently located a few minutes from Thames Street. The HoJo shuttle ($3/pp each way) was handy the first night but after that, we decided to drive downtown. Free parking isn't plentiful in Newport but it can be had if you are patient. The room was very clean and large. The air conditioning worked fine. Our room was next to the pool and near a busy entryway but we had no problems with noise. The safe in the room was handy. The only thing I wasn't thrilled about was the "silent fan" in the bathroom. There's a sign that says the fan runs continuously and silently. Ok, well...I guess I prefer a non continuous and noisy fan:) Breakfast consists of a large coffee machine, packaged muffins and juice. Truthfully, I don't think we would have taken advantage of a "real" breakfast there, anyway. On vacation, we prefer to visit local eateries (try Franklin Spa for breakfast). We did appreciate the coffee, however. Overall, our experience was positive. We paid about 200/night and while I think that was a lot of money I recognize that visiting Newport in summer isn't cheap.

Great Place at a Great Price!Posted 31-Aug-2014
Pros: See Above
Cons: Breakfast area needs to be bigger!
Location: Close to all Newport attractions and several others in the Middletown area as well.
We checked out many places [online] to stay for our latest Newport visit. This place had very good recommendations and the price was much lower than most others. It was awesome! Friendly staff, comfortable room with many little extras [bottled water, fresh cookies, etc.], nice indoor pool, etc. It was only a few minutes to Newport attractions. We have traveled a lot. This will be our place of choice for our visits to the Newport area. Absolutely!
