we booked for 3 people and there were only 2 very old towels on the room, no hand towels, not tissues, one of the nights there were people on the lobby very noisy and the personnel didnt do anything ro keep the place quiet. None of the VIP benefits offered was provided.

Location is ideal and main driver to stay there. Property is clean and maintained within acceptable standards. Would recommend if it is for a short stay and if convenience is a factor you consider important.

We checked out three hours after checking in. The property and the room are old, dark, and dirty. Hair on the bedding and floor of room. The room was extremely hot and not cooling down. The fixtures in the room were old and “creaky” and seemed ready to break unless you handled with extreme care. Several negative reviews have appeared in the last two months since I booked this reservation. Based on those reviews, I was very concerned about bedbugs. We found a much better hotel two blocks away for only slightly more money. The pictures are NOT accurate depiction of the property.

There was no parking due to construction. The hotel’s answer was “you are on your own.” We drove around for a couple hours to find street parking. On the plus side, once we were at the hotel, a nice man named Reynaldo helped us find overnight parking for a fee. The hotel room smelled strongly of mildew. It was disgusting. The cleaning staff’s solution was to spray chemicals in the corner - which just made it worse. The best thing about the hotel is the location.

Loved the location of the hotel (the only issue was the current construction of the road in front). But Rudolpho was a big help with our luggage, getting parking for our rental, and then suggesting evening spots with music! I would highly recommend this place. Great courtyard with pool to relax during the heat of the afternoon

The courtyard with the pool was so nice as well as the entryway. There are some good restaurants within walking distance. The room was quiet even in the middle of the city. Their parking lot was blocked off because of construction, but we found another lot that let us park overnight.

We are Google VIP platinum. This was the worst Expedia star rating to actuality we ever experienced. Rated on google at 5 star and NOW on expedia down at 4 star it's in our opinion a total distortion of other hard working hoteliers efforts who maintain and cherish their star rating. 1 out of 2 working elevators . The elevator that works 4 ft by 4ft, used for hours by cleaning staff. Road access stonework cutting for months based on expedia reviews. Bathroom is in our opinion a dirty 2 star. Staff eating in work clothes next to eating area. Receptionist walked of job. Ivan the unhelpful manager with a terrible manner. Ruined wheels on suitcase due to dragging suitcase across stones and dust. Dust everywhere. Beds were good. Door had 2" gap below door for geckos and 1" above , it had literally shrunk and had easy access to prize open door for theft. We have 45 nights of hotels in 2024. Some 2 star or 3 star . In our opinion they were still better than this hotel. We filed a report with pictures. ViP extra was 2 500ml juice bottles with a casa Do Belem logo that opened far to easy. Upgrade never offered.

Cute hotel. Great safe location walkable to many things. The 2 negatives were that the beds were hard as a rock and creaked terribly. We just like softer beds. But, the air conditioner did not get the room cool at all and there were no windows we could open. It was probably at least 80 degrees all night. Thankfully they did bring a fan into the room but we were all still drenched in sweat throughout the night. We got about 2 hours each of sleep due to the extreme heat. If it wasn’t for the AC problem, this would have been an awesome hotel to stay in.

The rooms definitely need an upgrade. They advertise having WiFi, but it was very limited and totally unsecured. The location is perfect, but the construction on the road made walking difficult. The pool area was very nice and it was handy having a restaurant connected to the hotel.

Our room was great. We were in older section of hotel and we loved the feel. Staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs as we are seniors. Bistro 57 had excellent food both breakfast and dinner. We will definitely return in trips of future. Room rate was very competitive. There were many evening events to attend in nearby areas that were walkable. Terry from Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri USA GO CHIEFs!! SuperBowl Champions x 2 !!!

Expedia not aware of extensive street and sidewalk reconstruction for two blocks in any direction … leaving poor walking thru construction debris and piles of bricks pipes boards and concrete … it appears this is a major city reconstruction involving roads water electrical that will continue for months .. ps vehicles not allowed within 2 blocks of hotel meaning dragging luggage thru construction .. Casa del Balam staff tried to help as best they could but barricades and debris made rolling suitcases a great problem … this should have been made clear by Expedia and hotel .. ps other hotels on the same immediate area also affected similarly.. I checked out early due to the problem but since booked thru Expedia the hotel was unable to adjust the charges. D. Black PS: Expedia customer service site not user friendly

These situations, regarding the severity of the streets, are something that did harm us since they are municipal public works, yes, Expidia did not update the information as it is, an apology is owed, but now we can tell you that the entrance is now free from the street and parking we regret the inconvenience during your stay

Beautiful old Mexican feeling. Lovely courtyard area, small pool area but nice to relax there, staff super friendly and helpful. It’s less than a three minute walk to the Centro Historico square and another lovely park a block in the opposite direction with more fabulous restaurants as well, many fabulous restaurants such as Casa Maya within a couple of blocks as well, and lots of amazing shopping. Loved our time there. Room was a good size with modern bathroom and old Mexican feel, only complaint was that the air conditioning sometimes dripped at night and don’t think they ever came to fix it, but really liked the atmosphere overall. Great restaurant on the main floor where we had breakfast most days. It’s in the heart of the best area in Merida by the historical buildings and was so convenient! Highly recommend.

We enjoyed our stay at Casa del Balam. This is an older hotel, which has been very well maintained. Our room was large, comfortable, and quiet, with a beautiful view of the center city. The staff members were all very responsive, helpful, and friendly. We will definitely stay here on our future trips to Merida. Very good value for the very reasonable cost!

The hotel use to be a family home that was renovated into a hotel with restaurant attached. The hotel has a lot of potential, with a courtyard and pool. With our stay which was almost a month, the pool was under going repairs, the parking was sometimes unavailable, the restaurant was undergoing expansions. Although not the hotel fault but roads in towns were all being transformed into a coble kind of look. However the dust from all of this, didn't seem to be cleaned daily. The courtyard is in dire need for a good power wash. They have issues with elevators as a few times out of order. Most of the staff was helpful and kind. The location is great to see all the sites. We did experience some of the completed area on Merida, which is very beautiful and clean. Maybe in a couple of years we will try again, not sure about stay at this hotel though.

This a wonderful, beautiful, traditional style first class Mexican Hotel with most reasonal room prices.The base of the hotel is an old Colonial mansion; there is a 60 year old, more modern extension built around the base which consists of the entire hotel. The hotel has a feel of years gone by, with a beautifully landscaped courtyard with an unheated swimming pool. The hotel has 2 old elevators which are functional as well as safe. The staff are genuinely attentive, friendly and most competent. This hotel is in the middle of the Centro historical neighborhood in Merida which is close to all of the historical parks and colonial architecture and multiple stores and restaurants. This hotel is a gem in the most important and relevent neighborhood in Merida. The plumbing is older and could be better, but this is true for much of Merida. This is a small compromise to be privileged to experience the ambiance and culture of the Mayans as well as old Colonial Mexico.

Our welcome to the hotel was an irate guest arguing with the front desk clerk who was apparently charged on her bill for two towels, which the police was called upon. This incident took about an hour before the front desk clerk was able to take care of us. The room did not have a refrigerator. There was no ice offered in the hotel. Only a cup size was offered from the bar area, which is undergoing renovation. The bathroom sink faucet in Room 211 was completely loose. In addition, the hotel bar and restaurant is undergoing renovations, which they did not notify the guests. They were welding and cutting glass and metal frames in the entrance of the bar and restaurant. This occurred about 10 feet away from the front desk area. The fumes from the welding and the strong smell of turpentine was permeated throughout the lobby area. There were no warnings signs displayed to alert the guests. The pool had debris in the water, and was being filled with a water hose which a person can trip over and no operating jets to circulate the water.

The lobby is an oasis.You walk in off the busy historic section of Merida and sit in a private park.The pool is relaxing. We enjoyed the room.reataraunt and a desk to book tours right outside. Merida is just beautiful.

Great Hotel in Merida's Historic Center
We stayed at the Casa del Balam at the start of our trip, then went to several other places in the Yucatan and circled back to Merida. We originally had booked another hotel at the end of our trip, but liked Casa del Balam so much that we canceled the other hotel and stayed here again. Spacious rooms. This time we had a corner room with two windows with lots of light. Great breakfast served in the courtyard. Close to many restaurants, museums, parks. Three doors down from Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Only negative this time was that our room was not ready at 3 when we arrived. It needed to be cleaned and some of the maid service had not arrived that day. We had to wait an hour to check in. If we had known it would take an hour we would've gone somewhere for a coffee/tea. Traveling isn't always perfect, is it? :-)

Great Affordable Hotel in Merida Historical Area
Great location near the historical center. Spacious quiet room with old world charm. Great breakfast served in courtyard with very good service. Our trip included flying into Merida, staying here 3 nights, then exploring the Yucatán region and circling back to Merida for another 2 nights. We originally has planned to stay in a different nearby hotel on the last 2 nights but liked Casa del Balam so much we switched to stay here the last 2 nights.

Great antiques, nice to have an elevator. Coffee was excellent in the bistrola, was nice to see Diego still working here! For a quick overnight the price was right. Basics are provided. Beds are comfortable. Location perfect for nearby parks! Road construction was a bummer but can’t help that.

Oh, my goodness ! Casa del Balam is by far the most beautiful hotel I’ve ever stayed in! It was like I had stepped back in time. I been in 5-star hotels with all the glamor & glitz, but there is no comparison. It had all the charm and detail I could imagine. If you want beauty, charm, & convenience, this place should be on your list. I would recommend this place if you find yourself in Merida.

We wanted the experience of staying at a property that had the feeling of why we were in Mérida. This hotel fulfilled that feeling. I believe it was built in 1911 and converted to a hotel 50 years ago. The location is great and the staff was very helpful. I would definitely stay there again.

The first room was not good. Large gaps in the windows caused the street traffic to be unbearable in the evenjng snd night. Our room was on thd corner with 2 sets of windows. Then there was construction on the street.after indistkng we were moved up to a different room on the 6th floor. A bit better but the AC was more like a fan and very loud.

An ols classic buikding with several beautiful inner patios and a decent restaurant (solid, but don't expect wonders). However, the building is old. No hot water before 6am, and a terrible stench coming out in whiffs out of the A/C at night. "Terrible", because it woke us up. We began a new family joke series about the place being hainted by a ghost of someone who ate too many yucatecan bean with chaya. You'll get it when you experience it :)))

This hotel does not provide the basics. No hot water, no hand towels, no glass to drink out of in room, no safe in room or at front desk, no tissues. No kettle or coffee maker. The toilet seat was broken and the toilet slow. Three hangers. The elevators are ancient and there is very poor lighting in the halls at night. Gloomy. The food and staff in the restaurant were great. The rooms are much in need of renovation. There are some great outdoor restaurants in the park across the street.
