"All depends on what you are looking for. This resort has most of the needed facilities to be classified 4 or even 5 stars if things were working properly. The hotel has obviously cut down on all expenses and run things with a strict budget. it is a huge property with very nice bungalows and rooms (didn't visit rooms). 3 connecting pools and one separate. no lights in the pools unfortunately, which is more fun for night swims, but still, you can swim anytime without time restriction. "While on my trip to Thailand I booked this hotel. After my day trip to Phi Phi Island, the excursion company dropped me off at a dock situation. In the poring rain and dark I was all alone going to this hotel. A little wet nasty tug boat took me on a 10 min ride to the other side where a pick up truck arrived from the hotel to get me. The entire property was made of wood and smelled of this strange funk. I'm sure it was nice when it was newer and current, however I could barely take the...

"While the pool area has not been updated, the hotel in its entirety was fabulous! It felt as though I was the only person there and was truly a wonderful escape from most of the tourist hustle and bustle. I had the entire beach to myself and enjoyed undisturbed time with a book and the sound of the waves. If you want to escape the tourism of Thailand, Tacola is the place to go!"

Wonderful family stay

"Beautiful hotel right on the beach and with lots of local restaurants just outside. We all had a wonderful time, especially our 3 year old. Breakfast was great. Restaurant was quite expensive for dinner so we didn't book to try it but the restaurants near by are great quality and so cheap! Cocktails were amazing. All the staff at the pool bar in the main pool were lovely and great with kids. We had the most basic day room but it was spacious with a huge bed and a lovely walk in shower. The air con was amazing and kicked in quickly when we got back to the room. "

A true gem in Khao Lak!

"Our stay The Sands was wonderful. We had high expectations for our long awaited trip to Khao Lak and having already had a week of hectic sightseeing in busy Phuket, we were delighted to arrive to Khao Lak to a relaxing resort but with enough to keep the children entertained. We loved the local area which provided so many options for shopping and eating out. We had a swim up family room which had excellent facilities and was beautifully furnished. I have literally zero complaints! "
