This hotel is an experience. It's an isolated location on a mountain side, but the hotel decor is almost a museum and worthy of being a destination in itself. On top of that, the exterior private baths are absolutely amazing, we booked them multiple times per day. Every meal was exceptional. Thank you for the beautiful memories!

This is a great place for stay in Hakone, traditional Japanese onsen house, we ordered the room and board for two nights, and it's a great experience. Both the public and private onsens are great and we have tried both. The location is also quite convenient, could walk to the Kowakidani station, both bus and train. Their hotel service is also great, family style, from the moment you entered, there is no need to wear shoes, because the whole hotel is connected in a way that you could either by bare foot or their sandals.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars for staff and cleanliness. The property is spotless and the staff really went above and beyond. For an American traveler, I thought my stay was a great introduction to Japanese onsens/kaisekis.

Soooo happy we booked here! It is a beautiful, traditional ryokan with spacious rooms, excellent staff and service, great water pressure (I know that’s silly to note, but it’s worth mentioning), and beautiful private onsens (we didn’t try the public ones). I was nervous calling the ryokan from the train station to pick us up, but they immediately put an English-speaking staff member on the phone and didn’t make me feel dumb for not understanding and were, in fact, super welcoming and kind. That, in fact, was the theme of our stay here. The yukatas they provide to wear are comfortable and pretty, and the staff kindly explains traditions and how to use everything during the kaiseki meal (they were so patient to explain everything to us gaijin!) We were exceptionally thankful for them when we found ourselves very far away at Mishima Skywalk. We got turned around and missed the last bus headed back to Hakone on the freepass and we’re waiting at a bus stop that turned out to not be a stop at all. The skywalk shut down, all employees went home, it turned dark, and the taxi services wouldn’t speak to any non-Japanese speakers. Our ryokan was able to call and get us a taxi (where no taxis were running). Expensive mistake for sure, but without them we’d still be in Hakone on the side of the road! ALL employees were encountered were kind and helpful, even if they spoke little English (and us little Japanese). Wonderful experience here!

Such a lovely ryokan experience. Located up on a forested hill (they offer pick-up service from the train station) the views over the valley were beautiful. The Premium room was spacious and the staff so friendly and helpful. Dinner and breakfast served in-room was a culinary delight of creativity and taste. Definitely a highlight of our Japan trip. We were a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teen-agers).

Great property, very quiet, the staff was very nice and helpful. The food was great. They were very accommodating. We had an early train back to Tokyo and they served us breakfast outside their usual service times. Would definitely recommend. They will not allow your party to check-in early or wait on the property prior to the check in time. If you arrive to Hakone early, they will pick-up your luggage from Miyanoshita station on the Hakone Tozan line. They will provide drop off and pick up services from the Kiwokidani station once you have checked in. For planning purposes, it is about a one hour trip back to Odawara from the Kiwokidani station. Communication can be difficult at night, this is where Google translate was very helpful, so if you had questions or concerns about your booking, it is better to have it squared away in the morning.

It was nice to stay at this place. The staffs were very nice and we felt welcome. Our meal server, Miho Yokohama was excellent, very friendly and helpful. The food was very delicious, small plates but we were very full. They have both public and private spa areas. Since the hotel is small, not many ppl so even public ones were like private. Onsen made us feel so relaxed after long walks for days.

I am overall pleased with this hotel but there are some things to note: -It is a FULL ON traditional Japanese experience in the sense the rooms truly are Ryokkan style and staff are all dressed in kimonos and the whole layout of the hotel is beautifully designed in old Japanese tradition. - The food is NOT a buffet, it is a set menu of VERY traditional Japenese cuisine, lots of pickled vegetables, lots of fish and lots of food a westerner who is not very adventurour may find hard to swallow. However if you are adventurous it truly is a beautiful experience to try all the dishes and if you enjoy the food you will not leave hungry as there are many dishes they serve for both Breakfast and Dinner in the half board they offer. - There is NO restaurant in the hotel so lunch must be eaten off the property. - They do not allow food from outside into the hotel so do not bring your own meals back. They also do not like you to bring your own alcohol to the hotel and if they discover you have then they will charge you for it. - If you have children, even if you book that you are with kids they dont register the children in the booking and they will charge you an extra 15 USD a night for the child to have their own futon when you check out. - the hot springs are all beautiful but the fascilities need updating. Paint pealing off the wall in places and wood rotting on the sideboards and some flooring. - overall a beautiful experience!

Friendly staff. Nice property. They fed us abundantly! Pillow and floor mattresses were not that comfy but we were there for the ryokan experience. Not sure if the hot springs water were clean or not coz shared by everyone and lady said they don’t swap them out.

This was the best hospitality experience I’ve ever had. The people, rooms, service, food, private onsen and everything else was top notch. It’s a shame I only stayed one night, wish I was there for more. The lady at the reception was extremely warm and welcoming to us. Will definitely recommend to everyone to go to hakone for 2 days and stay here!

Great choice!
Superb stay! The rooms are huge and really comfortable but the service is the real highlight. The food was delicious (although sometimes it would have needed a manual) and the onsens are amazing. All in all a great experience!

We had a lovely stay here, however received terrible service around meal times due to me being vegetarian. There is no mention of this in the booking however both breakfast and dinner are part of the per night cost and this ryokan is unable to cater for dietary requirements. On arrival, we let them know that we would go out for dinner instead so as not to inconvenience the staff and were promised a refund for both dinners that we missed. Upon contacting the ryokan after our stay to arrange our refund, they rudely denied any knowledge and refused to refund us. This was a shame, as it was a nice place to stay, but given the 4-star rating, I would not recommend it because of the poor service and communication. This did not live up to the 4-star service we paid for.

Stay here for the dream ryokan experience!
Amazing experience from start to finish. The service, the facilities and the food were all incredible. If you’re looking for the ryokan/onsen experience you’ve always dreamed of, this place checks all the boxes. Some special features that I loved were the yukata they prepared for you to wear as you roamed the premise, the wine and sake cellar including their own delicious house made sake, the incredible, intricate dinner and breakfast spreads served course by course in your room, the traditional Japanese sleeping arrangement, and the ramen served after 9pm for those wanting a late night snack. The baths were clean and tranquil with many locations to choose from. We had no trouble visiting all the baths without having to reserve as they have free hours at varying times throughout the day including some that are open overnight. They also had a shuttle service to pick you up/drop you off from the local train station. My only regret is that we didn’t stay longer.

The was a very lovely unique expeience. The ryokan is better than expected, very clean and nice Japanese style room. The staff was very friendly and one was able to speak fluent English. The private baths are better than the pictures very peaceful and clean, with perfect water tempurture. The food was very delicious Japanese style Keiseki meal they cook in your room. A lovely stay and would definitly come back again on next visit to Japan

Overall, it was a great experience, both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The rice wine was delicious, but unfortunately none of us are very good at drinking, but the plum wine is highly recommended for newbies to try. It's up in the mountains, very quiet place and you can also enjoy the spa and massage (massage chair). But the transportation is not too convenient, so you need to be careful.
