"Large, well kept Hotel in the middle of Hakone"
Nice, well kept hotel. The onsen at the hotel was a nice experience, their massage parlour was actually cheap (relatively, 6300 yen for 1 hour massage) but their restaurants are ridiculously expensive. Cheaper to cross the street to the Family Mart or go to the food court at Yunessen spa (also across the street). Most hotels in Hakone were very expensive when we traveled so I don't know if we got a deal vs other hotels. This one has a nice garden and is easily accessible with the hakone pass.

"A very unique experience"
Mikawaya was built in the 1800s and yet it was clean, well maintained and a beautiful Ryokan. The onsen experience was awesome. Dinner and breakfast were serve in our room and the food was good and fine (if you like Japanese cuisine). The place was quiet and the view from our room was breathtaking. Most importantly, The staff were extremely helpful, polite and we felt so welcome. It was a pity that we only stayed for a single night as we plan only a two day trip in Hakone. We will go back again if we are visiting Hakone again.

"Timeless hotel"
outstanding service in a classic hotel. There's nothing like it throughout Japan and the company has preserved the aura from bygone days. You really need to stay here for the experience. It's in the heart of Hakone so you can use the local line to go to other small towns.

"Good, once we found it"
We stayed here for two nights in April. We arrived on the tram and exited the car to the right rather than the left (facing uphill). As a result, we could not find the hotel. We asked a Japanese couple who proceeded to ask directions, loaded us and our luggage in their car and spent 20 minutes trying to help us locate our hotel. Had we exited to the left, we would have found it adjacent to the track. This detail should be noted on their website. Once settled, we enjoyed the hotel, onsen, and restaurants. The breakfast buffet was okay but dinner was excellent. The room was small but adequate for our needs. The onsite onsen was small and very private. Overall, we enjoyed staying at this inn.

"Loved it"
After the day being slightly hazy and enough so that we could not view Mt Fuji anywhere we were delighted to find on waking up and opening our HUGE picture window that overlooked the lake, FUGI-SAN! right there in full view perfectly clear as the view from our room. Wonderful Hotel shuttle direct to Odawara station used to leave... If I had known that beforehand we would have also taken it from station to hotel. But we used the transport from our "Hakone free pass" which took alot longer. Located directly next to the sightseeing boats on lake Ashi, that connect with the cable car, rope bridge and the rest of the circuit; if you come out of hotel and go the opposite way there is a beautiful walking path along the lake to that historical gateway (I'm still jet-lagged so I forget the name). PRIVATE ONSEN (for those of you that want to share that with your husband but his tatoos make it difficult) & hotel massages *If you can make reservations as times fill up for both. Directly across the street is an excellent and super cheap restaurant too. For the cost, this hotel was wonderful. VERY spacious for Japan. We were only there 2 days 1 night but I wish we had stayed a few more days in both this hotel and this beautiful and relaxing area- after 9 days with alot of walking in the heat of Kyoto, Nara and elsewhere sightseeing, this was a delightful break before returning to Tokyo.

"Great hotel only a few minutes to the lake!"
From the moment we walkee in Hakone Palace Hotel we were thrilled with the hotek facilities and welcome by a fantastic front desk staff! Contrary to other reviews, we had great wireless in the room, enjoyed a fantastic onsen experience. The hotel is also only a 5 minutes bus ride from Togendai station, one bus every 15 minutes. All included in the price. The only regret we had was that we only had one nighy in hakone. We will definetely go back to Hakone Palace Hotel. And strongly recommended it!

"Gem!"
Lovely hotel situated on a mountainside setting with full views of the ocean. We stayed in a Japanese style room, first experience on a futon....uncomfortable, but the room was very cool.

"Fabulous hotel, with the most helpful staff"
Arriving from Tokyo was very straight froward, sadly we missed the opportunity to use the luggage forwarding service at Hakone Yamote as our train was delayed and the office closes promptly at 12.30 but to take our luggage on the Tozan train to Gora was no trouble. The hotel will collect you from Gora station or we took a taxi as there was one waiting for less than 800 yen. On arrival we had lunch (delicious!) and then wanted to head back to Gora station to go sightseeing. The hotel had no trouble in arranging for the shuttle mini bus to take us back to the station, so accommodating. After a day sightseeing we arrived back at the hotel for a wonderful early evening drinks (all complimentary). The drinks were also not limited to one. We took dinner that evening in the Japanese sushi restaurant which was amazing, the most wonderful hand rolled sushi prepared before you. Our chef was American descent so spoke perfect English and helped us select a menu which suited exactly what we wanted, so personal and not at all intimidating. Only staying one night we wanted to make the most of the facilities and I booked a massage for the following morning after breakfast. The massage was phenomenal! and in order to accommodate my massage the hotel happily extended our check out. From Hakone we were travelled to Kawagachi-ko, The hotel helped book a taxi (with English speaking driver) to collect us for this journey, there was simply nothing more they could do! AMAZING.

"Good onsen option for foreigners"
Good choice for foreigners to get a true hot springs experience. Attractive baths with some outdoor pools, both at the hotel and you get privileges to go to another hotel bath across the street, which has outdoor pools as well and interesting rocks. Dinner in room was very good, full range of dishes, but not top gourmet. Breakfast was generous food bar with everything Western or Japanese. Room was extra large with big tatami area. Road up to the hotel is hair-raising. They seem to be happy with foreigners, but some language still helps since there are many details you need to know to be a good guest. A distance from the station and shops, so no reason to go walking. Ladies need to grab a flowered yuukata that they put out at the elevators at late afternoon, otherwise you wear the drab standard. The cost was very reasonable, compared to other places with good baths and included food.
