Location location location
You'll struggle to find a better location than this one anywhere in Italy, possibly even the world. High up on a mountain overlooking the Italian riviera and at the gates of the protected Portofino national park. The hotel interior is a bit dated -it's as if they have become complacent because of their location - but overall, this is a great place to stay.

Great location
Hotel is in an ideal location for waking on the Portofino peninsula and probably has the best views of any hotel in the area. Has a lovely terrace and pool outside overlooking Camogli and the bay right round to Genoa. The hotel is almost at the highest point on the peninsula, making it some distance from Camogli. However, the hotel runs a shuttle bus to Camogli a few times a day and in the evening so it is well worth being up here for the views and access to the national park. The hotel itself was clearly once very grand but is in need of an update. Our bedroom was small and quite shabby really and the sea view we has requested (and for which we had paid extra) turned out to be similar to the count of montecristo's sea view. We didn't use the restaurant for anything other than breakfast but that was great, with a good choice and in a fantastic setting overlooking the bay.

Incredible view from the Hotel and our room,
The Staff was wonderful, helping us with our questions and querries. The Hotel is situated in a very calm place on top of a Mount, the road leading to the Hotel is in adventure of it's own. 2 kilometers of climbs from the main road. There is a free shuttle bus coming and going from the Hotel, there is a schedule but it is very flexible to please the guesses.

Terribly isolated.
The hotel was very picturesque. The staff were polite but extremely aloof. Aside from a beautiful view (which it did have), the hotel might as well have been in the middle of nowhere. There was NOTHING within walking distance. They did offer free shuttle to town - but is was a full 20-30 minute ride and you had no way to get back except to wait up to an hour or so for a return shuttle. I would NOT recomment staying there for the reasons stated above. Camogli (the town at the bottom of the mountain ) was quite nice and definitely worth seeing.

A great Romantic hotel for everyone.
The hotel staff are super. They are friendly helpful and the atmosphere is very light. That helped make our stay extra special. They provided a shuttle service that is very important. View, rooms,and breakfast were all great. I recommend this lovely romantic place to all travellers who want to have a good time on the mountain top, overlooking Camogli.

It's all about the view and the food!
Initially a little disappointed on arriving at Kulm, but we were soon won over by the amazing view and wonderful on-site restaurant/bar. The hotel exterior is very grand, and perched up high overlooking all of Camogli. The interior however seems tired and ready for refreshing. Very clean and comfortable rooms, but ours only overlooked the rear bushland. Would definitely recommend seeking an ocean view room. The gardens and indoor pool area are also in need of attention (plus it's a bit strange lazing on a sun lounge right next to the main driveway but we got used to it). The restaurant offered a great selection of meals and snacks, and waiters were superb! Recommend you have your own transport when staying here. Free shuttle bus available but limited to a strict timetable, and too far/steep to stroll into town. Would love to see this hotel restored to her former glory.

Romantic Turn of the Century Hotel with all the amenities
This is an incredible hotel on top of a mountain overlooking the sea and charming villages on the Italian Riviera. The decor is old world European and the staff is gracious and warm. We were given a choice of rooms since we were there in off season and chose one with a balcony so we could enjoy the view in the evening. The bathrooms are very nice, all marble and luxurious toiletries. It has a beautiful indoor pool, spa and a small work out area for the sportif. THe breakfast is mostly rolls and jams and cold meats and cheese but...they will be happy to make you eggs and rashers of bacon if you ask and fresh cappuccino. The restaurant at night is a bit pricey but excellent continental cuisine. I had a glazed salmon fillet on au gratin potatoes and a starter of perfectly grilled veggies. There is a special shuttle to their sister hotel on the beach in Camogli and a discounted price for use of that hotel's pool overlooking the ocean or beach chairs and towel.

The location of the hotel is realy good, there is amazing view from rooms that viewing to the see, but and its a big but, the hote is old and we sleep in same mony in hotels with better locations and not less fancy. Recomended hotel only if the view is very important to you. Tzahi

Thin walls made for a very poor sleep. Smoke easily entered the room from neighbors even with towels rolled up and placed under the door. The Hotel has a spectacular view but this is common in this area.

Portofino Kulm - for outdoor lovers
We very much enjoyed our stay here. The hotel sits near the top of a hill with a magnificent view of the sea. There is easy access to the Portofino hiking trails, which are lovely. If you like to be active and enjoy hiking this is the place to stay! There is an indoor pool as well. A free shuttle is provided several times a day to Camogli and you can use the beach of this sister hotel there although there is a substantial charge for rental of chairs and umbrella. Breakfast is good with a wide variety of foods. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wishes to visit the area and enjoys the beauty of a sea view and the access to hiking trails.

Portofino Kulm - elegant yet remote
This hotel has been very nicely updated in keeping with its history. The entryway is grand, with marble from floor to ceiling it seemed. Upon reception, we were greeted and allowed to check in early. Our room was spacious with a full size closet, very nice bathroom with a tub and shower (unusual from our experience), and a comfortable bed (king size but is actually two beds pushed together). The restaurant, for both breakfast and dinner, offers outdoor seating with an incredible view of Camogli and surrounding villages, mountains, and the gulf. Our dinner was absolutely fantastic, and included free champagne, and the breakfast buffet was plentiful. Concerns: 1) The distance of the hotel from any other civilization is far, making the hotel seem like an entity unto itself. If you're interested in sight seeing, you'll need to hire a taxi or use the shuttle offered at certain times only from the hotel. 2) While the hotel boasts its affiliation with a spa, it does not tell you that there is a charge for using the open pool services. We were charged, without our knowledge, for using the hottub and steam room which are available and open in the pool area. 3) The hotel's website does not mention any transportation options for arrival so we spent 22 Euros on a taxi from the train station. We did not know until we arrived that there is a shuttle available and that it is free if you use it during the allotted times offered.

Name of Hotel Deceiving
While this hotel has beautiful views, the location is not what we were expecting. We were expecting a hotel near Portofino since it is called PORTOFINO Kulm. The hotel is up on a hill, that is roughly a 70 euro cab ride into Portofino and a 50 euro cab ride into Santa Margharita. While the hotel does have a free shuttle into Camogli, it does not offer any type of service into any other town. Cab drivers charge you from the time they leave Camogli to pick you up at the hotel to the time you arrive at your destination. Therefore, when you step into a cab from the hotel you already have about a 14 euro charge racked up. This hotel would be ideal if you were looking for a completely secluded trip where you would not be leaving the hotel...otherwise, it is definitely worth the extra money to stay in Portofino, Santa Margherita, etc.

Beeindruckendes Gebäude mit historischem Flair
Lage und Ausblick sind umwerfend. Idealer Ausgangspunkt für die Cinque Terre und andere ligurische Ziele. Frühstücksterrasse ist herrlich. Auch das Abendessen ist liebevoll angerichtet und phantasievoll gekocht. Shuttleservice nach Camogli ist unheimlich praktisch.

Un albergo posizionato sulla collina sopra Camogli (2km) che ti permette di godere di una vista meravigliosa e una tranquillità impareggiabili. Dotato di servizio navetta gratuito è possibile raggiungere il centro di Camogli in pochi minuti senza alcun tipo di disagio. La cortesia del personale è davvero eccellente, andrebbe un po' rimodernato nelle stanze (tv a 14 pollici sono ormai da antiquariato soprattutto per strutture di questo tipo), ma nel complesso davvero ottimo in tutto.

Très bel établissement, idéalement situé pour visiter cette région, personnel accueillant et serviable, piscine très agréable bien que couverte. La vue sur le Golfo Paradiso vaut vraiment le coup.

Camere con vista mare ove il mare non si vede...
Neo non trascurabile : Ho chiesto una camera al piano alto vista mare, accettando il relativo addebito, tuttavia, in loco, ho scoperto di essere in una mansarda orientata, si, verso il mare, ma in realtà dalla finestrella a bocca di lupo si vedeva in pratica solo il cielo.... Impudente far pagare tale camera con dizione "Vista mare"... A mia protesta me ne é stata offerta altra con effettiva vista mare, ma....con aria condizionata non funzionante. Nessuna possibilità di "upgrade" della stanza. A questo punto mi sono arreso e sono ritornato nella camera con la finestrella a "bocca di lupo", visto che altro non c'era salvo qualcosa con letto alla francese che aborrisco e che comunque avevo preventivamente escluso all'atto della prenotazione. Concludendo, bellissimo albergo, ma con alcune pecche non all'altezza dell'aspetto esteriore e delle sale comuni. Evidentemente non ho avuto fortuna.

Très belle vue sur le golf Paradisio
Situé à 450m d'altitude, cet hôtel permet une vue plongeante sur le golf Paradisio superbe. L'endroit y est agréable et le service des plus corrects. Idéal pour être au calme car il n'y a personne autour ! Le prix de 250€ par nuit me semble un peu élevé malgré tout. Cela dit, nous le conseillons.

Un hotel decisamente gradevole ed accogliente. Unico neo è la posizione. E' molto bella e dall'alto si vede il golfo. Distanza però di quasi 6 Km dal centro di Camogli. C'è una navetta dell'hotel che fa il servizio di trasporto al molo di Camogli ma gli orari sono molto limitati (almeno nella stagione invernale). Senza macchina e/o navetta non ci si muove dall'hotel.

tres belle vue sur la baie de Genes
Bel hotel situé au dessus de Camogli avec nécessité de reprendre la voiture pour y descendre . Portofino à au moins 20 minutes de voiture ( mais village magnifique ) . Nous avions réservé un peu tard , aussi nous avions une chambre située tout au bout d'une aile avec maints détours par petits escaliers , peu pratique pour les valises.

Hotellet ligger beläget på ett berg med utsikt över havet. Det ser väldigt lyxigt ut och utsikten är magisk. Vi hade först bokat ett vanligt dubbelrum med parkutsikt. Det var ett stort misstag, rummet kändes mörkt, litet och nedgånget. För några hundringar extra per natt fick vi ett rum med havsutsikt och det var värt varenda krona (även om detta rum borde renoveras ordentligt), Detta är genomgående för hela hotellets inredning som borde uppdateras. Läget i sig är som tidigare skrivet fantastiskt men vägen dit är kurvig och omständlig. Ska ni ta er runt i området är det därför ett krav att ha egen bil, eller hotellets shuttlebus (vi prövade aldrig åka med den bussen så vi vet inte dess destination(-er).
