“Would love to go back”
Wow! What an awesome experience! We were extremely happy with this resort and would go back again. Loved the location, views, and overwater bungalows. I wasn't wild about the showers (totally open) and the wind can get kind of annoying at times, but it was definitely worthwhile.
“The place to stay!!”
Excellent location, view is gorgeous, hotel staffs are friendly and helpful. This place does not have big resort feel. This is the place to stay. Unlike some other places, there are plenty of fish under your bungalow. You can feed them right from your room.
“Our Honeymoon Stay”
It was excellent - Beautiful location, but WINDY! This is because you are on Matira point. The other Intercontinental is not as windy; but also WAY more money. I would suggest to not take the hotel shuttle from the airport - they provide a free shuttle from the aiport to the marina; from there you can take a cab for 1500 CFP (~18 CDN $$) WAY cheaper than the 10,000 CFP the hotel shuttle will cost! The location is great - excellent proximity to walk to some restaurants (Hotel Mai Tai) and the Pizza place almost right next door. The beach location is amazing as well. They provide snorkle gear, kayaks and towels at the beach hut. Free shuttle to other Intercontinental where you also have access to towels and gear to use. I recommend visiting the supermarket down the street from the hotel (10 min walk) and buy soda, water and snacks - this saves! The breakfast was good (~80 CDN for 2 people) and not quite worth it, but hearty and delicious. The food at the hotel (dinner) was expensive - I liked the value and atmosphere at Bloody Mary's - I would have eaten there more had we thought about going sooner! Also - slow season is Nov-April - ask for a late check-out they more than likely can accomodate during these months. ps - dont let "rainy" season scare you - these storms roll in and out within 5 minutes! Maybe 1 a day if that. Most rain happens at night anyways.
“Relaxing place to stay, but if windy not much to do”
For us this hotel was relaxing and could have been more so if we could have had the weather on side. The hotel is at the bottom end of Bora Bora and is more open to the ocean than the rest of the resorts, making it very windy at times. Guests should be aware of the high price of flying to Bora Bora from Papeete approx $AUS480.00 per person one way which unfortunately when on a budget makes this an expensive holiday and add to this the cost of the launch to take you from the airport to your hotel.
“Beautiful, cultural, convenient and oh so nice!”
After careful considering, my husband and I chose this hotel for our honeymoon in Bora Bora. Island living is different, I'll tell you that much, but at the end of the trip and after seeing all the other hotels...I'll have to say that although there are newer hotels out there and one with way more modern conveniences, I'm really glad we stayed at the La Moana. It was the perfect combination of Polynesian culture and modern day convenience (read: air conditioning and internet). A few things that will make you want to stay here. First, The hotel is not ran by a bunch of french people with the locals in the back working. They actually hire local people that live nearby. I would know. One of them offered to go home to get a coconut for me since the hotel wanted me to order a day in advance because some tree climbing was involved. =) Also, there are activities that are really cool. Like for example, they have a demonstration on how to make a popular Tahitian dish and pareo shows. Second, the location of the hotel is perfect for getting around. I don't know about you all, but having to be shuttled by boat from island to the other just to get to dinner annoys me, especially when I'm hungry. We normally only stay at Le Meridien when we travel, however, I'm glad we didn't. In order to get to dinner outside of the hotel, we would have to take a shuttle boat to the main island and then a taxi to the restaurant. And the hotel charges for shuttle boat transfers.
