I enjoy the peace and quiet. Secluded, but close enough to Garner State Park. Kids enjoyed playing soccer. Plenty of room inside. It was nice having the entire place to ourselves.
The house we stayed in was perfect for all 5 of us. There is just no water in the Frio River to float so loved that this place had a swimming pool. My granddaughters loved the tire swing. We played games in the evening and sat on the porch at night to look up at the stars. This is a great place to bring your family for a get away and enjoy relaxing
We loved loved the location. Waking up to the sight of mountains, tranquil river and birds chirping from the hundreds of trees - we had a wonderful stay at Lightining Bug Springs. We stayed in the Rio Vista cabin in the spring season and it was rustic, cute, comfortable and has superb views of hills & river.
The kids loved to play on the deck, climb trees, eat meals, paint rocks, collect wildflowers and splash in the river below - it was an amazing experience for everyone.
When we were driving to the cabin, we thought its too remote and were skeptical, but once we entered the property, we saw the beauty of this place.
Also, its one of the rare places in Concan/Uvalde where the owners provide you with linens and towels and kitchenware. The owner Dena was very responsive and also accommodated our change of plans last minute.
We had a leisurely trip which is exactly wat we needed to escape the busy city life. We spent a day at Garner State park (really lovely during spring with fresh water in the Frio river and colorful wildflowers bursting everywhere), went for Frio Bat Cave tour and saw millions of bat zooming out at dusk, drove through misty hills to Lost Maples natural park and explored small town Concan with country music and cute cafes.
This was one of the best places we have stayed in, little expensive given the remote location but totally worth it! Hope to come back in the Fall season.
The location and swimming hole were awesome!!!! Super quiet, very peaceful! Bbq pits weren’t the cleanest and half way falling apart, or had no grates.Beds were as expected for a rental, had an outlet that was in the living room with a broken cover. Electric hazard for children. Dishes were put up but dirty, had to wash before we used them. Overall would come back just for location and swimming hole.
We were looking for a place to spend time with our son, daughter-in-law and four grandchildren. This was perfect for us. The floorplan was perfect: separate bedroom for mom and dad, bunkroom with four bunks and bathroom on one end of the house, master suite for grandparents on the other end of the house. Beautiful deck overlooking the river. Soccer field and equipment, tether ball courts, horseshoe pits, fire pit--so many ways for an active family like ours to spend time together. Dena was a terrific hostess. Communication was immediate and accurate. We will definitely consider utilizing this property again next year.
We stayed here for access to Garner. The location was amazing, the back porch was a dream, and the accommodations were good. Only cons we found:
1)Finding this particular house in the complex at night when we arrived was difficult. Would advise a little hand drawn map or something on the arrival instructions since this one is down a path and hard to see.
2)Parking seems limited. The only place to park for this unit is by the bunkhouses, which were empty while we were there but had someone been in them that drove I think this would have been an issue.
3)If you are taller than about 5ft you will have to squat to shower. My brother and I are 5'5" and 5'510" each and the shower head was below our faces, my poor 6'8" husband REALLY struggled since the shower stall was also compact width/length wise.
Overall enjoyed our stay. Would probably try the log cabin looking unit next time.
