You would not have known you were right next to busy restaurants aa there was no noise at all. Very close to the wharf, with many restaurants and conveniences within easy walking distance. While some of the decor is a little dated, it has been very well maintained and you can see the owners have continued to upgrade parts of the property. The room was very pleasant to stay in. The service was excellent, they were able to accommodate a slightly early check in, which was very much appreciated, so that we could leave our car parked at the property while we enjoyed a tour to the hole in the rock. We stayed there a year ago and really enjoyed our stay: so much that we have recommended you to several friends. On that occasion we felt very welcome on our arrival. This time the welcome and atmosphere was very off handed. Even though the Lodge was virtually empty there was no atmosphere to feel we were welcome. That feeling still lives with us. We had a wedding to go to next door at the Duke of Marlborough. It was a perfect spot to have a swim on an extremely hot day. We loved that we could take the Kyacks and bikes without having to ask. The accom interior was pleasant, a bit dated but not bad considering the location and proximity to everything. We drove around the North Island and stayed in a number of very reputable chains and hotels but the experience at Commodores Lodge was genuinely superior. units were large enough to accommodate us (family of 4), clean and very well maintained. location is certainly best you get in Russell. the pool was nice and convenient specially for our children, they absolutely loved it.
