  • THE VILLAGE OF VILLA MIGLIORATI
Villa Buonamici, formerly known as Villa Migliorati after the first two noble families from Prato who owned it, is located in Savignano in the municipality of Vaiano. The characteristic pointed arch portal made of Alberese stone on the current façade attests that, originally, in the 1300s, it was a watchtower built by the Migliorati family to defend the village and the valley, and later transformed by the Buonamici family into a residence, with the addition of windows and a roof in place of the typical battlements found on towers.

A historic, freestanding structure formerly used for agricultural purposes. The structure is part of the larger Villa Buonamici complex dating back to the 1300s and was completely renovated in 2015. The residence overlooks the ancient village threshing floor. Its garden slopes directly down to a charming stream that flows slowly toward the valley among olive trees and cypresses. It was built in the 13th century as a fortification, forming part of the towers that protected the valley, and still retains the tower’s stately appearance today. It is situated exactly on the border between the woods and the olive groves that slope down to the valley floor, just above the stream that flows slowly through the village until it reaches the small Romanesque church.
Extra virgin olive oil is produced on the property’s land.

The village is divided into 5 different structures:

Salone—the Renaissance wing of the villa. In ancient times, this served as the main entrance. A place of relaxation and charm. Galileo Galilei, the father of modern science, stayed at the residence.
This historic residence, whose portal bears the coat of arms of the noble Buonamici family, overlooks the village’s ancient threshing floor. Galileo Galilei was hosted here in the summer of 1630. It was built in the 13th century as a fortification, forming part of the towers protecting the valley, and still retains the tower’s imposing appearance today. It is a single-story structure with a total area of 200 square metres. It has been expertly restored and furnished with pieces in the traditional Tuscan style. It retains a special charm, still featuring the original plasterwork and terracotta tiles. On the ceiling of the main hall, you can admire the characteristic decorated Tuscan bricks, dated A.D. 1658.
Its spacious entrance hall can accommodate all 24 guests for moments of conviviality.
The house is on a single level and features 3 double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, plus a large kitchen

Barn—overlooking the village’s historic threshing floor. It is a stone structure with a garden on three sides that slopes down toward the stream. It is arranged over three floors for a total of 210 square metres and has been expertly restored and furnished with pieces reflecting the ancient Tuscan tradition.
