Eliza Thompson House

5 West Jones Street, Savannah - Map
"Perfect location, lovely courtyard."
This hotel is in the perfect location at the junction of Bull and Jones. The courtyard is lovely. The hotel offers complimentary wine and cheese in the evening and dessert and coffee, as well as a continental breakfast with a hot entree. For all of that, I would have rated the hotel a 5. It is a four because the bathroom in our room was quite small and a bit cramped and the air conditioner was a bit noisy. Nevertheless I would stay there again and recommend it.

Amazing historic hotel! We stayed in a petite queen room and it was perfect for two people. My husband swears he heard ghosts in the middle of the night! Perfect location because everything is within short walking distance.

Very welcoming and helpful staff; great breakfast included. Wine and cheese each evening was nice way to meet fellow travellers. As a woman travelling alone I felt very comfortable in this hotel.

"Excellent location - could not be better!"
The location was wonderful - so convenient to everything we wanted to see and do. It was so pleasant just to sit at their fountain on River Street and watch the world go by. It was also convenient having Tubby's and Huey's restaurants accessible from inside the hotel. Tubby's has the lightest pancakes I have ever eaten and also the largest. Huey's food was also very good. The wait staff at both restaurants were excellent. The hotel was clean and attractive. My only complaint was that I had to call for service the first day. Be sure to take advantage of their 5:30 complimentary happy hour. The bacon covered quail was quite good and the hot crab dip was delicious. The wine not so much but thought was good. My mattress was way too soft but my sister and her husband were satisfied with theirs.

"Outstanding in every way"
We arrived on Wednesday just before the hurricane Mathew arrived. Room was beautiful, just like the photos. Staff was there to meet every request. We were advised that we may have to either evacuate to another hotel due to the storm. On Thursday we had to leave. The Manager, Mr. Jones, took care of us, as to even drive, in his own truck, to another hotel so that we would be safe. He personally made all arrangements with the other hotel. His staff and his hospitality and caring for us was superb. Southern hospitality at his best. Mr. Jones represents the best care and concern we could have asked for during what would become a dangerous situation. The hurricane did a lot of damage but without Mr. Jones and the entire staff at the East Bay Inn it could have been chaos. We will forever thankful for their care. Sincerely, I recommend this hotel for some of the very best that Savannah can offer.

"Tasteful Southern Charm"
We were greeted upon exiting our cab by a very friendly man who know who we were, took our bags and directed us to the lobby. The room was gorgeous. The decor was calming and elegant, in a beachy kind of way. The rooms were huge. We had the 2 room suite, with tv's in each room and available WiFi, tons of towels and good sized shampoos and lots of storage room for suitcases. The kitchen had coffee and tea and the fridge/freezer had ice cream (Every night!) The trolley tours and Savannah River boat tours were right outside the hotel and I'd recommend taking both.

"Great location for walking. "
We could walk the historic area and down to the river. Our dog had plenty of parks to visit. The full kitchen helped to make you feel that you were in a home away from home. Great stay.
