« I almost hesitate to give this a five-star review, because I don’t want the secret to get out – this is the best place to stay in Houghton! Our son is a student at MTU, so we are in the area numerous times a year. We have stayed at various other properties (both Airbnb’s and other hotels), but Independence Stay has become our go-to spot. The property is always immaculately clean, modern, and well-maintained. The staff is friendly. The rooms are comfortable, with just enough kitchen supplies...

« This vrbo was great for what we needed. It's an old building so you can hear the people above walking around upstairs but a fan will drown out the noise if it bothers you. Large assortment of games, coffee etc. My son just moved in at Michigan Tech. This place was close to campus (about a 5-10 min drive). »

« The apartment was a great base camp for our travels in the upper pennisula. Beds were comfortable and shower was nice. I do agree with another review about the bathtub being slippery when taking a shower. We bought a bath mat which helped tremendously. »

« We had such a wonderful stay here! The house was very clean, the kitchen and bathroom was stocked with everything we needed, and the beds were very comfortable! As others have stated, taller guests may find themselves practicing their best ducking abilities when using the shower and stairs, but it's an older house! That's part of the charm! We would gladly stay again! »
