The large gathering place with fireplace, t.v., games, snacks, refreshments to invite friends over is very unique. Extremely comfortable and clean suites with a great sauna and small workout area for the building to use. Only one very minor drawback for light sleepers is the road and snowmobile sound if you stay on road side of the building. Best property manager ever who was very helpful, kind and willing to share the history of the building and area. We were in the Eastwood suite and it.was.so.loud. Street noise made sleeping very difficult, even with the complimentary white noise machine on the nightstand. And since the street/intersection was so close to the building, we had to keep the black-out shades open only about 8" from the top of the window or else truck drivers would be able to see into our space. Everything else was great, I just wish I had known how the building were situated. They have nice laundry appliances and provide dish and laundry soap. It would have been nice to have a step stool to reach the pots and pans. Using code entry for the doors was great. No worry about losing keys. There is no sign on the building and I had a terrible time finding the building to check in at night. It is a convenient location. The main thing to keep in mind is that one room ( Eastwood Suite)is right next to a highway. I mean RIGHT next to; just a sidewalk in between. Our room was so spacious and the quality furnishings were great- from the kitchen appliances to the amazingly comfortable adjustable purple mattress bed and well- designed bathroom. The facilities and staff were so welcoming and made us feel at home. We had the opportunity to tour the lodge all the rooms available. Every room was unique, well designed and we would have happily stayed in any one of them. We especially enjoyed the public room which was the remodeled old Elks club bar where there was a nice fireplace, board games, tv, refreshments and plenty of seating to hang out. The history of the building as the old Elks club is really neat. We used the laundry room that was available and went home with all clean clothes- a nice bonus! The gym and sauna were nice, though we didn’t use them. The location is great and we were able to walk to many restaurants and shopping in both Hancock and Houghton within just a few minutes. It was great to walk across the bridge to the local brewery in Houghton and be able to walk back with no problems. Sitting outside on the deck and watching the boats and the bridge lift was so relaxing and there are small grills available if anyone wanted to barbecue out there. The parking lot is not currently paved but it was smooth and it wasn’t a problem. I understand the parking lot is going to be upgraded soon and will include more outdoor recreational space. Multiple bars and restaurants less than a mile away. Clean, comfortable rooms with great beds and great kitchen set up. Great views in the rooms that open to the deck. Great place to stay! Close enough to walk into Houghton over the lift bridge.
