"This was actually a two night stay - two separate, sequential reservations - which the staff dealt with just fine on check-in, though despite getting my keys renewed first thing on Day 2, the keys still did not work when I got back to my room - first world problems! Biggest issue was that the hotel only had one working lift (elevator) for ten floors - you can imagine how busy that one elevator was! Breakfast was OK, though the eggs benedict was luke-warm rather than hot. Decent continental breakfast selection, but mini-croissants were not fresh, and there was a distinct lack of any fresh bread (only sliced bread for toasting) - a few baguettes would make a difference! The room was pretty spacious and comfortable and reasonably quiet. It looked a little tired in places, but nothing too troubling. The staircase used in place of the elevator service was somewhat grubby in places and not what would be expected of a 4\* hotel. The exit/entry off Calton Road is a bonus for easy access to Edinburgh Waverley Station. The gym, although small in size, was well-equipped with free weights, and the steam room in the spa was a real bonus."

"The hotel is in a lovely building, but the decor in our room was odd and dated - it needed a bit of tlc and updating in our opinion. Lovely views of the city and beyond. We wish the blinds/curtains had been black out, as it got quite light in the morning. The big light in our room flickered a lot, so we couldn’t use it. Free parking was great. The room was cleaned each day and had basic amenities - kettle with tea and coffee, ironing board and a safe in the wardrobe."

I asked for a part refund, was told the manager would call me and NOTHING. Not impressed to say the least. "

"The Moxy hotels are a bit different as the lobby is the bar and is where you check in. Staff at check in (Melissa?) was friendly and helpful and the lobby offered complimentary water as well as seating areas and games. Our room was small, but clean, but had limited storage; no dressers or closets -- just a small hanging bar. The bathroom was tiny but clean. Breakfast was quite expensive compared to other hotels we stayed at while in Scotland, but they did offer complimentary coffee until 10am (my husband was upset since he tried to get coffee a few minutes after 10, but everything was shut down). The biggest issue was parking and loading/unloading luggage as it's located in a very busy area with no options other than parking garages (they offered a code for a particular lot, but it didn't work)."
