Mountain Lake Lodge

"The hotel lodge was n beautiful. Lodge room was old and outdated. Restaurant food was not great but you are held hostage up on the mountain. Food at the salt pond was dreadful. It was a fun experience but a one and done. Staff is friendly but communication is not good. After 2 nights finally realized maid service was only on request. Never communicated. It was a memorable trip because of Dirty Dancing but will probably not return."

"Dawson Inn was cozy and a really nice place to stay. The manager was very nice and pleasant to talk to. The Breakfast wasn't the usual "Holiday Inn" type breakfast but it was all we needed. The room was clean and comfortable. The only issue was the directions given by Google Maps. It took us off on the wrong exit and into the backwoods country on a tiny narrow road and our destination was a wooded lot. I'm glad we weren't traveling at night - we might not have seen some of the hairpin turns. We turned around and when we got back to a small town we called Dawson Inn from a church parking lot. the manager gave us the correct directions and said she has been requesting for Google Maps to change this for a long time without any results! Call ahead and get directions directly from Dawson Inn and you will have a Wonderful Stay!"

"We enjoyed a very relaxing weekend. Check in was easy, house was clean. We appreciated being able to learn a bit about the history of the house and the family that owns it. The locals know it as "The Morgan House." It's updated and upgraded but with some original features, like the built-in hutch/cabinet in the dining room, that lend to the historic charm. Overall very cozy and comfortable. Kitchen is well stocked with cookware and dishes, clean and well functioning appliances. All the remotes are labeled and the TV's are simple with Roku; the wifi allows for streaming on several devices without lag or buffer. We were able to have our dogs with us which is a huge plus. Would stay again!"

"First of all Karen is an excellent host and is very easy to communicate with, and she answers emails almost immediately. The house does sit up on a cliff above the RR and the New River, however, in Summer you cannot see the trains or the river. Maybe in early Spring or late Fall when there are no leaves on the trees the view is amazing, but in Summer, all you see is trees. The trains were not a problem as they did not run during the night. However, driving up that narrow steep road and driveway lane is an adventure! The house is old and quirky (yes, the floors are crooked!), and needs some updates, but was clean, the water is excellent tasting, and the little waterfall creek behind the house is charming. The property is on a wooded hill, so exploring is difficult, but there are many designated cleared trails in the area in NRGNP and state parks, many with waterfalls. The kitchen was adequately stocked, but could use some new items. (I'm actually sending her some essential baking and cooking tools-- measuring cups, spoons, bowls.) The washer and dryer is a plus as I hate packing dirty clothes to bring home! We sat on the front porch and on the deck/patio to relax after one day at WV Renaissance Festival and 2 days of hiking waterfall trails. The only serious problem we had was with the rental agency, not Karen, but she straightened it out to our satisfaction."
