Mountain Lake Lodge

Mountain Lake Lodge

8/10 Good
"The property was beautiful, our room was very comfortable, and the staff was lovely. We really enjoyed the hiking in the area and the "scavenger hunt" to find the locations from the film, Dirty Dancing. Our only real issue was the food. You're on top of a mountain, so driving down for a meal is incredibly unappealing. Honestly, food is limited and just barely passable. We got by on the pizzas at the Salt Pond Pub. The breakfast was a $20 buffet that was abysmal. Only hard boiled eggs, no other egg preparations. There were other things but it was truly not acceptable. If we return, we will bring a lot of food to carry us through. Gave this place 5 stars based on how cute and quaint and fun, but be prepared for truly subpar food."

"Our family had an absolutely wonderful stay at this beautiful home. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by the peaceful setting, breathtaking views, and the thoughtful touches throughout the house. The hosts, Bernie and Jessica were incredibly kind, welcoming, and responsive. Communication before and during our stay was excellent they were quick to answer questions and made the entire experience seamless. One of the things that made our stay especially meaningful was learning that this home was built by the owner’s grandfather’s home 100 years ago. You can truly feel the love and care that has gone into preserving its character while providing all the comforts needed for a relaxing getaway. The front porch quickly became our favorite gathering spot. The home was spotless, comfortable, well-equipped, and had everything we needed to cook meals, spend time together, and make lasting memories. The home was the perfect home base for all of our adventures. If you are looking for a place with beautiful scenery, rich history, genuine hospitality, and a peaceful retreat, this is it. We are so grateful for the opportunity to stay here and would gladly return. Thank you Bernie and Jessica for sharing such a special piece of your family’s legacy with us!"

"The outdoor spaces are wonderful. The creek and fire pit are perfect for relaxing and enjoying being outside. The cabin was clean and had everything we needed, except an extra blanket. The cabin is extremely small. Great for two people, small for our group of four (after three nights)."

Million Dollar View Cabin By New River Gorge Park

Million Dollar View Cabin By New River Gorge Park

10/10 Excellent
"The house is very comfortable and clean and matches the pictures. And the view is incredible! But the house is also pretty isolated. It’s at least 15 minutes from a very small grocery and more like 30 from a decent Kroger. It was 30-60 minutes from New River Gorge National Park, depending on which part of the park you’re exploring, so it wasn’t a convenient home base. But it would be a great place for just relaxing in the mountains!"

Million Dollar View Home by New River Gorge Park

Million Dollar View Home by New River Gorge Park

10/10 Excellent
"Absolutely amazing cabin with a truly million dollar view. Its about 10 minutes of beautoful back roads to get to the cabin from "civilization" and worth every second. The home was spotlessly clean. Its got everything you need, and the view and property are just beyond description. Close to Hinton and Beckley, where everything and anything you need is available. Close to New River Gorge NP. We did the coal mine tour in Beckley and recommend that. All of the various spots in New River Gorge National Park are striking distance. Reasonably priced boat rentals at Bluestone state park. Great hiking. We did a guided fishing trip with Outcast and had a great time and caught a bunch of smallmouth. Mentioning all of this stuff because the house is on the highest point anywhere around or at least it seems so when taking in the view, but it is still close to everything. Stars on a clear night are absolutely incredible. Sunrise is right in front of you and out the window, and is epic. Bathroom is clean, water pressure is decent. Kitchen has all you need. Loft is really neat with an incredible view. Downstairs bedroom is practical but the pull out couch downstairs is honestly where its at because you can see all of the stars at night and wake up to the view and sunrise. Ample parking. The whole place just works and is exactly as pictured. Worth every cent."
