![Altausee is a small village set in a beautiful valley on the shores of Lake Altausee. This is the heart of Austria, and close to the centre point of the mountainous country. The village of less than 2,000 inhabitants is picture postcard perfect, with well maintained wooden houses, almost all bedecked with flower boxes and hanging baskets. Not a country to live in if you don't have green fingers, I feel! On Sunday, the locals mostly wear their best leaderhosen, trachten jackets and 
dirndls, creating a scene straight out of the Sound of Music. ![Altausee is a small village set in a beautiful valley on the shores of Lake Altausee. This is the heart of Austria, and close to the centre point of the mountainous country. The village of less than 2,000 inhabitants is picture postcard perfect, with well maintained wooden houses, almost all bedecked with flower boxes and hanging baskets. Not a country to live in if you don't have green fingers, I feel! On Sunday, the locals mostly wear their best leaderhosen, trachten jackets and 
dirndls, creating a scene straight out of the Sound of Music.
