Relaxing Get-a-way
Shelley’s place is wonderful! Clean and comfortable in the heart of the Madera district. Just a few blocks from the beach. Amazing restaurants around every corner of the La Ceiba complex. Shelley was very helpful before and during our stay. She gave excellent recommendations for a variety of attractions. Her property manager, Vanessa, was attentive and willing to assist us at a moments notice. We would love to return for a future vacation! Shelley’s place is highly recommended!

Comfy oasis in great location !
From the very beginning the communication with the owners and the reception from the manager upon arrival was excellent. This place is very private, secure and in an excellent location close to the beach, shopping, restaurants and the taxis are directly across the street. Perfect for 2 people in a tropical setting with 2 nice pools. Completly equipped, including a nice Bose bluetooth stereo. Ive been to Zihua many times and i give this place 2 thumbs up recommendation !

Great location
Easy walking to everything….lovely beaches, restaurants, markets, fruits and veggies, pharmacy. Owner and manager are very responsive. Nicely decorated, well-equipped kitchen. If you like hot, tropical ….this is for you!

Wonderful place.

Nice clean and secure complex.
Nice condo in a handy location close to town, although a little noisey. Mexicans love their celebrations! The open air living was great, and the two pools were a welcome relief from the Zihuatanejo heat.

A wonderful unit with a great location
Casa Almendro is a large comfortable 1 bedroom unit in a superb central location in Zihua. It's a gated complex with 2 clean refreshing pools, a welcome benefit to cool after a day in the heat. If you are into Mexican adventures, seeking out local culture and food, then this will be a perfect unit for you to consider. Close to Playa Madera (10 minute walk), Centro (15 minutes), the open air market at Solidaridad (5 Minutes), and a Soriana Mega store (15 minutes). As well, and conveniently, there is a taxi stand right outside the main gate to get you to other destinations inexpensively. We used taxis to visit friends in Playa La Ropa on multiple occasions. a good selection of local restaurants are close, safe and entertaining. We recommend Rufo's right around the corner. Lastly, the owner Shelly's Mexican manager, Vanessa, is lovely to deal with and speaks fluent English. We had a minor problem with ants, and Vanessa's team were knocking on our door the next morning to do a thorough clean and manage the issue. Zihuatenejo is an adventure, and we'll be back to stay in this unit again. R & C. Note - Casa Almendro is on the 2nd floor without an elevator. Just a heads up for those with mobility issues.

The only downside was that they were working on a roof right outside The unit. It wasn’t full-time but a little distractive, and not very private at that time.

Paradise
Casa Almendro quickly became our home away from home! Meeting Shelly the owner, upon our arrival, made us feel so welcome! The pools, tropical plantation, staff and friendly neighbours make this a very desirable location. The condo is spacious, clean and very beautifully decorated. Shelly and Don have paid great attention to details to every part of the unit. We loved the two open spaces and enjoyed many game nights out there. And the cozy King bed always felt so comfortable after our days in the warm sun! A perfect location for shopping, beaches and eating out! Great selection of restaurants near by. A real gem of a place to enjoy all the wonderful things Zihuatanejo has to offer. Pure Paradise! Looking forward to returning soon! Gracias!

Casa Almendro is..... Simply the Best!
This corner unit perfectly captures the gentle breezes of Zihuatanejo. From the well appointed kitchen, pretty decor, comfortable bed and bright, spacious living area to the choice of two pools, friendly and helpful staff, our time at Casa Almendra was perfection! Just steps from restaurants, shops and the beach, we enjoyed fabulous food and gorgeous sunsets. We felt safe and welcome everywhere we went. We will be back!

Amazing accomodations and location.
This property is very spacious and ideally located near shopping, restaurants and the beach. The property is well equip for cooking your own meals or BBQing. The grounds are well kept and absolutely beautiful, Jesus the grounds keeper ensures that it always looks perfect for the guest to enjoy. Our condo at La Cieba was exactly what we hoped for...private, quiet, gorgeous landscaping.
The condo was spacious, with two open air decks. We enjoyed both swimming pools daily. We were also close to beaches, shopping and restaurants....I would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends and family!

We loved the place, very comfy, beautiful gardens and great pool.
Absolutely perfect location, friendly residents & staff. Great neighborhood. Liked the open air feel. The ninja professional blender was terrific and we had many delicious fresh fruit smoothies. Only glitch was the bedroom toilet which was running. Needs to be fixed. We ran out of water once because if it. We would definitely stay again & recommend to others.

Amazing condo in a great complex
We absolutely loved Shelley's condo. It is spacious and very well equipped and it is obvious that the owners have put a lot of time into decorating and maintaining it. The condo is located in the Playa Madera area and it is within easy walking distance of shops, town, the beach and numerous restaurants. The complex is beautiful with 2 swimming pools and lots of chairs and loungers. We will be back for sure and we highly recommend this rental.

Perfect way to spend New Year’s

Comfortable, colorful, and convenient
I highly recommend Casa Almendro as a place to stay in Zihuatanejo. The second story, one bedroom condo is spacious, well-appointed, and a delight to the eye, with its arching walls and Mexican tiles. There is a pool right below the condo and we dipped in every afternoon to cool off. This was our first time in Zihuatanejo. Shelley gave us detailed instructions for navigating the airport and taxi get to our condo, which was so thoughtful. Vanessa, the property manager, is also incredibly helpful and friendly. Her English is excellent, which came in handy as our Spanish vocabulary is limited. Casa Almendro is perfectly situated for exploring all aspects of Zihuatanejo right outside your door. (Outside the (always locked) door of the condo grounds.) We stayed for a month, and we shopped in the local markets, took boat rides to Playa Las Gatas (for great snorkeling), boogie boarded 3 blocks away at Playa Madera, and walked ten minutes over the hill to Playa La Ropa. There is a taxi stand across the street, and you can easily take a taxi anywhere you want to go. The only negative we found was the noise of the streets and the loud recorded music played everywhere. This is not a criticism of Casa Almendro. It's just a warning that Mexican towns are noisy. Bring earplugs. The king-sized bed was very comfortable, and the spacious kitchen had everything we needed for cooking. I loved the indoor-outdoor living: sitting in the open air dining area overlooking the pool. There is air conditioning in the bedroom for cooling off, and fans throughout the rest of the condo. If you are looking to immerse yourself in the culture of a Pacific Mexico town, while simultaneously feeling safe and comfortable, then Casa Almendra is for you.

This was our best vacation ever.The complex ,the apartment,the location and not to forget the neighbors ,were all so much a part of this wonderful time we had .Shelly you have a gem of a place.We can only hope that we can return someday.Thank you to Vanessa for all your helpful information. Perfect!!

Casa Almendro - the perfect home away
Staying at Casa Almendro provided everything we needed to make our visit to Zihuatanejo a great vacation. Just down the steps is a wonderful pool or a few minutes walk takes us to a lovely beach. Around the corner is a variety of quality restaurants and another short walk takes us to the town centre or the Fisherman's walkway–vibrant with cafés, more restaurants and local shops. Everything is convenient and close at hand–take your pick and choose what you want to do. The casa itself is tastefully decorated, furnished and fully equipped with every convenience one could want or need. AC for sleeping and fans throughout keep the casa comfortable all the time. It is obvious that great care has been taken to make anyone's stay in Casa Almendro trouble free and a special experience to enjoy and remember. We appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed all it had to offer. Casa Almendro sets the stage for that perfect vacation!

Fantastic!!
We just returned from a fantastic 3 week stay at Casa Almendro. We are so in love with the convenient location of this condo in the Madera area. No taxi needed as we could walk to our destinations but taxis were plentiful if needed. It is always a delight to reunite with good friends we have met over the years while coming down to Zihuatanejo. We had numerous delicious meals, several just within a couple minutes walk from the condo. Highlights for us are the abundant fresh fruits, vegetables and seafood. The dorado was on while we were there which is one of our favorite meals grilled simply with garlic. Vanessa, Casa Almendro Manager, is a gem and always helpful and responsive when anything was needed. Great vacation destination!

Two Weeks in ZIHUATANEJO
The upstairs unit was well equipped. Our property manager arranged for laundry and homemade tortillas for Thanksgiving. There was no charge for the bottles of water delivered to our door. Everything was walking distance and we did plenty of it.

Absolute paradise!
What a wonderful condo at a beautiful price! We cannot recommend this highly enough! Very close to restaurants, the beach, and shopping in a safe and secure complex within a great neighborhood. The condo was exquisitly decorated and extremely clean. The owners have provided many extras to make their unit more comfortable. The management and maintenance people couldn’t be more helpful and we also appreciated two pools for when we wanted time in the adult pool. We will be back and truly appreciate the helpfulness of the owner regarding our questions when booking travel. This is for sure a five-star condominium !

Beautiful Landscaping. Close to Town, Restaurants & Beaches
We stayed in this lovely apartment for the month of Oct 2017. It was extremely hot this month and even the locals were complaining of the heat. Over 90 every day and sometimes 95 with very oppressive humidity. I mention this because having stayed in Zihaut in Sept some 8 years back we didn't even need an air conditioner. PROS: 1. Very roomy 1 bedroom, 2 bath apartment 2. Well stocked kitchen (we didn't want for any additional appliances) 3. Big patio off the kitchen for eating. 4. Central location so easy walk to town, restaurants & beaches. 5. Taxi stand right out the front door of the complex 6. Laundry service 1 short block away. 7. King bed, quite comfy. 8. TWO pools, one of which is adults only. 9. At this time of year there are very few people in the complex. About 3 full time residents plus 2 or 3 visitors. (approx 35 suites in all). 10. Air con in the bedroom 11. Weekly maid service. 12. The owners are very accommodating and will help if you need anything. CONS: 1. During our stay, there was no reprieve from the relentless heat except in the bedroom where the aircon was. The dining area fan was all but useless, same for kitchen, slightly better in the living area, but definitely NOT cool! 2. If you want other folks around you, this is not the place for you in Oct. 3. NO VIEW - I got confused into thinking there was a view to the beach due to the photos on the VRBO site, but there is none whatsoever. From the dining area you look out at the roof of another building. 4. FUMIGATION - this surprised me. They did it 2x while there, 1st time no warning and they did it at 5:30 (just when we were preparing dinner). The fog comes right up to the 2nd floor and permeates the air for about 24 hours. They did change their policy to advise in future and we did get notified so we could make arrangements to be out the evening they did it. 5. POOL - I think the intake skimmer was not working properly because the pool always had leaves and small bugs in it for the entire time we were there. Hopefully they will rectify that. 6. POOL SIDE CHAIRS - There are no cushions for the chairs or chaise lounges and after about an hour you do get tired sitting in them. If would have been nice to have cushions as we tend to spend lots of time at the pool. 7. TOWELS - there were 2 towels for showering & 2 towels for the beach. It wasn't really enough considering the frequency with which you need to shower in the heat & beach towels get quite salty.

Pat, I was concerned when I received your 3 star rating on your recent stay with us. We have had a long run of 5 star ratings so I have to conclude we cannot please everyone. I do take your comments and recommendations earnestly. Thank you for the numerous positive observations and descriptions of items you liked about Casa Almendro and the surrounding area. I would like to comment on the items you described unfavorably for future guests reading this review. I understand it was quite warm during the month of October in Zihuatanejo, this year in particular. Our description of the property states our unit is an open air condo with AC in the bedroom and fans throughout the condo. I question changing out the current ceiling fans would have changed your opinion. Unfortunately, I have no control with the weather. My VRBO property listing states very clearly our condo is in the Madera downtown area with a 5 minute walk to the beach. In my property description and listing pictures there is absolutely no mention of an ocean view from the condo or attempts to elude potential guests of such. Copy and pasted from the VRBO property description: “There are views of the tropical landscaping from every window and from the additional two spacious balconies found in the condo”. I recommend to you reviewing property details thoroughly reading the provided facts and subtitles accompanying the pictures. I have supplied factual and truthful descriptions of our property listing and the surrounding area to assist people viewing the listing with no intensions of deceiving. Fumigation is common in subtropical areas. This service is arranged by the La Ceiba and Casa Ceiba Condo Association administrator. Pending fumigations are clearly posted on the main complex door as you exit to inform all owners and renters. Your complaint of being unaware of the event was taken very seriously and we made a personal policy change to notify our renters directly of such pending events. My manager Vanessa is very helpful providing service and assistance to our guests. She is a huge part of our success. I’m certain a simple email or call to her with a request, question or concern would have resulted in prompt attention and probable solution of your remaining issues. We can’t improve or fix issues for a guest if we are not made aware of them. I appreciate your comments and recommendations. We sincerely strive to ensure our guests have an enjoyable visit at our casa

Casa Almendro is a beautiful home in a beautiful setting
Zihautanejo is much bigger then I had imagined but Casa Almendro made for easy access to some delicious eateries, the city center, beach and convenience stores with short walks. Taxis were on hand right across the street from Ceiba Suites when I ventured further then a walk allowed. And I can't say enough about Shelley Frei, the property owner who did her utmost to make the trip most welcoming.

Great location in Zihuatanejo
We had a great stay at Casa Almendro. The condo complex is very nice with 2 pools. The condo is will equipped and a comfortable stay for 2 people. The patio/balcony was a great place to sit and relax and enjoy the tropical weather. The location is great - a short walk to Playa La Madera, restaurants, and shops. It is a short taxi ride to Playa La Ropa. The communication for booking with Shelley was great and Vanessa (property manager) made sure we got settled in. Beautiful condo! Thanks for having us!

Lovely condo in a very pretty complex within walking distance to beaches, restaurants and shops
We had a wonderful relaxing week at Casa Almendro at Ceiba Suites. The condo is very comfortable with inviting balconies where you can relax and read or just listen to the birds and enjoy the tropical plants surrounding the two lovely pools. With shops, restaurants, and beaches so close we were able walk everywhere. We only took a cab once and that was to La Perla restaurant on Playa La Ropa. There we spent the day under a palapa reading, having refreshments and food, enjoying the ocean breezes, and watching the friendly local families having a great time. Shelley is very easy to work with and very responsive to our enquiries. Vanessa, the property manager, is so sweet and helpful. We really enjoyed Zihuatanejo, more than other Mexican vacation spots that we have visited, and Ceiba Suites is the nicest place that we have stayed at in Mexico. This was our first time in Zihua and would love to come back and stay longer. Thank you for making our first visit so restful.

happy with our stay
enjoyed our time here. is within easy walking distance of centro and a couple of beach areas. spent most of our time at the unit on the balcony which gets nice cross breezes. quiet. AC in bdrm makes it easy to sleep at night. both owner and property mgr were very responsive. everyone in the complex was very friendly. if we travel back to Zihua would not hesitate to stay here again.

Second visit as great as the first!
This is a perfect unit for two people. It is clean, spacious, private (second floor corner unit) and well-equipped. The grounds are lush and well-maintained, and it is within walking distance to many restaurants and the downtown. La Ropa Beach is a short bus or taxi ride away, and it is a beautiful place to spend time relaxing, walking or enjoying the surf. This was our second stay at La Cieba, and we enjoyed it as much as the first. It is a hidden gem and worth considering if you are looking for a truly Mexican holiday. The people who live in Zihuatanejo are extremely friendly and helpful, but brush up on your Spanish if you want to make your stay even more enjoyable. Last year our visit coincided with Easter and the city was pretty crowded with families on holiday. This year we arrived before Easter, and the city and beaches were fairly deserted until Palm Sunday. Shelley is great to work with; she responds promptly throughout the rental process. Everything is right about this place including the price!

A great place for a relaxing stay!
We were very pleased with our choice of stay. Shelley, our host contacted us and gave helpful information. The condo was perfect for two. Vanessa, who met us at the front was a great help and tour guide. For people who have not been to Zihuataneja, this is a great place to stay. Others you meet in the complex give great tips for food, shopping etc. There is a notebook that Shelley and Don put together with maps that help and give suggestions on what to do and see. It was great to have the pool at the bottom of the stairs. I used this frequently to relax and stay cool. The balcony was a great place to hang and enjoy just being there. We did some exploring but mostly just relaxed and got the much needed break. This was just the place to do it.

Perfect Vacation
My husband and I spent 17 glorious sun filled days at this bright, comfortable condo. This large condo is very well equipped and tastefully decorated. The condo complex is lush with vegetation and the two pools are sparkling clean and a perfect peaceful place to cool off. The condo neighbours are very friendly and we joined them in a potluck dinner. The location is ideal for walking to town, excellent restaurants and the beach. The property manager, Vanessa, was efficient and always cheerful and helpful. The owner, Shelley, was quick to respond to any questions and contacted us to ensure everything was perfect. This was a great experience and I highly recommend this condo.

Casa Almendro...stunning! Very relaxing and accomodating...
Stayed in this beautiful property from 12/29 until 1/6/2017. The unit is spacious, beautiful and accommodating. There is art everywhere! The colors are serene, soft and inviting. The unit has all the gadgets that a family might ever need and all the appliances worked perfectly. The only drawback I could think of is that since the water is collected and distributed via a tank on the roof, the water pressure is somewhat lacking and the hot water might take a little bit to warm up...but again, you are on the Mexican Riviera, who needs hot water? Also, there was no iron to press our clothes when going out, but a friendly neighbor came to our rescue immediately. Overall, it is a beautiful unit, spacious and inviting, Would like to recommend a nice, relaxing hammock on the main porch overlooking the pool might invite the guests to take a siesta and relax. It is a nice unit and we had a wonderful time. The residents were very friendly, chatting and it felt like if they knew us for a very long time, we enjoyed many afternoons on the pool making memories with the residents. The staff are the best, from the maintenance guy, the cleaning ladies and Vanessa, the administrator. She was accommodating, searched for tours and even planned the rosca de reyes get together! We went to the other unit and mingled with the other neighbors at La Ceiba...had a nice time. The unit is withing walking distance of nice restaurants, shopping areas and the local mercado, and to mention which is right in front of the local taxi stop. The amenities in the condominium unit include a very clean adult pool and another one for children and families. We walked everywhere, had wonderful food and the prices are not so bad!!! Also, local bus transportation is very cheap and took very cultural enlightening trips to Ixtapa and Petatlan. Casa Almendro is a gem in Zihuatanejo and has so much to offer from the artful, colorful and whimsical decor, lovely accommodations, a book filled with excellent advice regarding restaurants, tours and precautionary tidbits to remain safe while in Zihua. The owners spared no expense in order to allow guests to feel welcome and relaxed in this unit. We highly recommend Casa Almendro for your stay in this lovely piece of paradise and thank the owners for allowing us to stay in their home while we celebrated our 38th wedding anniversary. Great place, lovely surroundings, nice people and unforgettable memories were made in Casa Almendro!! Thanks Ms. Shelly!!!

The condo is centrally located and is close to the beach and the Central District
The 2nd story condo is located at La Ceiba Suites and is in the center of a small development that features two pools, and is beautifully landscaped throughout. It is spacious and feels very private. We had everything we needed and Vanessa the property manager was very helpful and went out of her way to ensure our needs were met. I would return again and recommend it to others.

A Little Slice of Heaven
My husband and I recently visited Zihuatanejo for the first time and stayed in Shelley and Don's condo, Casa Almendro. As described, it is a lovely, clean, well-appointed home that is close to everything - beaches, restaurants, grocery stores, and the downtown. It is a large one-bedroom, two bathrooms, second-story unit. We loved that as we felt it was both private and safe; we routinely felt comfortable leaving our windows and doors open during the day and evening hours. Everyone within the complex, both staff and other renters, was extremely friendly and accommodating. We divided our time between lounging at one of the two beautiful pools and enjoying the beaches of Playa Madera (nearby) and Playa La Ropa (a short 7 pesos bus ride away). There is no need for a car! We were able to walk to many wonderful nearby restaurants, enjoy all the activity and food in the downtown as well as the many shops and restaurants at the Paseo de Pescador. We walked to the Comercial Mexicana, a large grocery store, for our week's worth of provisions and cash, but there are a number of smaller groceries throughout the area for quick trips. If your destination for the day isn't within walking distance, cabs are conveniently located right outside the complex. We would recommend three "must" restaurants: Mito Restaurant and Wine Store in downtown Zihua, La Terracita on Calle Adelita for a delicious breakfast, and Ristorante Il Mare for a beautiful sunset dinner high above Zihuatanejo Bay. We rarely stay in the same place twice, but this complex is so lovely and comfortable that we have already made a reservation for next year. We stayed here at the end of February 2016 and would be happy to stay here again. The condo is large for a 1 bdr. Two full baths! It is as well-furnished and attractive as the beautiful pictures on the website. The manager, Vanessa, was at La Ceiba to meet us on a Sunday afternoon and show us to the condo. Her young niece and nephew helped us bring up the luggage. It was clean and well-equipped. We had nothing but good experiences with the owner and the manager.

Very enjoyable stay in a fabulous suite !
We just completed a 3 week stay at Casa Almendro and had a wonderful & relaxing time. It is probably the nicest suite we've stayed in since we started coming to Zihua a few years ago. Shelley and Don’s beautiful spacious home is exactly as described with lovely tiles and bright colours everywhere. Shelley is extremely organized and it’s evident in every aspect of this suite. We particularly appreciated the very well-stocked kitchen with lots of useful gadgets and all the spices and condiments which had been so thoughtfully laid out for her guests. Other little thoughtful touches such as the frosted mugs in the freezer were much appreciated, especially with the unusually hot weather in Zihua this year. The condo is in a great neighbourhood with wonderful restaurants just a few feet away. It’s also within a 15 minute walk to the large grocery store Comercial Mexicana where we usually go for all our provisions. The lush grounds and pool area of La Ceiba are lovingly maintained by Jesus the gardener and the whole complex is very safe and secure. We slept with our windows and doors open most of the time and never had any cause for concern. Communication with Shelley and Vanessa (the property manager) was always professional and they responded quickly to any questions we had. Vanessa even had a 6 pack of Coronitas waiting for us when we arrived so that was a delightful welcome treat. Thank you so much again Shelly & Don for sharing your “muy hermosa casa” with us – we will definitely recommend Casa Almendro to all our friends. Until next time….!
