Good location but poor quality
The staff was nice but the place could use some work. No AC in room and while asked several times- they told me it was ok while it just circulated air. At one point I just decided to leave and only then was I told I could be given another room. By this time- bathroom was a sauna, very dusty and only air circulating was recycled. Would not recommend.

We have visited Zanzibar many times. This is the first time we stayed at this hotel and it will be the last. The staff are very friendly, but the service was very poor. I paid extra and reserved the presidential suite. After arriving to our room, I realized they had put us in a regular sea view room. When I asked about the suite, I was told it was undergoing some renovation. There was no offer to reimburse us for the incorrect room, nor any offer for any extra service. In fact, we even tried to get a later check out and we’re denied. Unfortunately they already had my money for suite thru Expedia…so beware when booking your room..!!

The building has an interesting history and is furnished and equipped in authentic detail. The location is easy walking distance from the Dar ferry; across the street is a fishermen's beach, which is also where many boat tours start. Food was good both in the main restaurant (overlooking the beach) and in the small coffee shop at street level.

Had a lovely stay at Mizingani Seafront. We had a lovely ocean view. Hotel is in a busy area so some outside noise, but comes with the walkability aspect. Service was good. Would recommend.

A charming old-fashioned hotel, that reminds you of the history of Zanzibar and Stonetown, its capital in particular. Lovely antiques, and gorgeous views of the waterfront and its activities from the breakfast room as well as from some of the rooms at the front. (We had one). Spectacular sunsets. Only fault of the hotel, is that the safety deposit box in the room didn't work. Also, it is a dry hotel, no alcohol, but there are charming bars everywhere, and there's Freddy's pub across the road. We will return for another stay.

Goof location In walking distance for many things. My room was facing a building with renovations in progress so was noisy in the morning. The towels in my room was not clean enough with some stains.

Overall, I loved the property, but 2 things aggravated me. I booked 2 rooms for which I thought was for 4 people (2/2). When I arrived, my reservations were for 3 people (2/1). Both rooms were identical but because there were 4 people, they charged me $20 a night for the fourth person. Yes, very upset since the room with 2 people was the same price as the one with 1 person. The other issue was the shower head. Bathroom was beautiful, but when I say that showerhead needs to be replaced...water was coming from every direction. up/down/both sides, left/right, left/right side, top/bottom, sw/nw, front and back. Staff was very nice and helpful. Would I stay again...Yes, but best believe I will check my numbers on the reservation.

Wonderful Seaside Hotel
Gorgeous Islamic-inspired design at a seaside hotel steps away from the ferry terminal. If you arrive by ferry there is no better location for convenience and value. Beautiful rooms, interior courtyard with pool and balconies over looking it. A hilarious number of staircases. Breakfast buffet was diverse and very tasty. Staff exceptionally friendly, and over the top accommodating! Excellent value for money. I would love to stay again.

This is a very old and historic building used by the sultan as a vacation home. The common areas are all stunning from the pool, the riad and the water fountain in the court yard. The vibes are 10/10. Rooms are massive. You will feel like a rockstar on your in your giant suite overlooking the water. The balcony was HUGE and the best view. It’s the perfect spot for Instagram photos! The downside is the rooms are very dated. While I recognize the property is very old, things like a modern bedding, a duvet, new flooring and a fresh coat of paint would give this property a nice face lift. 8/10 Breakfast was decent. You can order fresh eggs and there is an assortment of fruits, pastries, and hot items. I found the hot items to be a bit sub par so I just ate the eggs and toast and fruit and I was happy. 8/10.

Our first trip to Stonetown was really magical and Mizingani contributed to that experience. It's location on the waterfront was spectacular and paying for the seaview was worth standing on the Livingstone room balcony and watching the African sunset on the ocean. Accomodations were acceptable, historical architecture was exceptional. You are staying in this place for the chance to imagine yourself back in time. The staff are friendly and hospitable. Tips are always welcomed though not asked for. We recommend American's adjust their expectations and focus on the experience. It was amazing. Oh and definately eat at the South African Fish Market on the pier just a few blocks down. It was fantastic. Don't forget to arrange a paid walking tour of Stonetown, it's worth not getting lost and seeing extra nooks and crannies.

The hotel is just five minutes walk from the ferry and about 20 minutes from the Airport, location is perfect in front of the hotel Is promenade walk to the forodhani park, in the night it’s lively with plenty of local food stalls. Staff are amazing especially Zubeda and Haji they were brilliant and make my stay very enjoyable with their knowledge of the city.behind the hotel is stone town where you can walk through narrows roads ,overall I enjoy my stay at Mizingani and I will definitely stay there again. Another thing is the breakfast is amazing plenty of food and a lot of varieties includes fresh fruits and juice. Abdirahman

Due to a change in my flight which occurred during transit, I was unable to check in at the hotel. After contacting Expedia to get some results....it was a frustrating and devaluing experience. The phone number listed for the hotel was an unavailable number. The hotel (per Expedia) insisted that my room was no longer available. I had booked and paid in advance for 8 days. I was dumbfounded when I was told that there were no available rooms. What happened to the room i had paid for? I would be checking in a day later due to flight changes (the airline did that, not me) I felt like I was being robbed. I agreed reluctantly to cancel the reservation (Expedia's solution) and find other accommodations. I was in transit at the time (in Ethiopia). After arriving in Stone Town I went to the hotel and spoke personally with the GM who insisted that my room was still available and that I could check in. This was after I had written a scathing review of my experience. My friends who did stay there had mixed feelings. Some thought it was ok, but one of our companions checked out day 2 and found another hotel. My experience was very bad...poor communication...incorrect phone number on website...unsatisfactory in my opinion. The plus is that it is located on the Seafront...

We enjoyed our stay there. Nice location, close to all the restaurants and shopping. Five minute walk from Stone Town. Room was spacious, clean and the staff was very friendly.

Don’t trust the rating. Not a 9 but a 6 max!!
I had paid for the luxe double room. For me a working safe is very important because of the cash in my phones. The safe didn’t work. Hadn’t worked apparently in a long time because the batteries were totally corroded. They try to get batteries from another room. They didn’t work. I asked for a room with a working safe. I got another room with a working safe but it was definitely a standard room. Small, very small balcony, and the bathroom both of the freaking joke. You couldn’t even get to the toilet you had to step over the toilet to sit on the toilet. The breakfast offerings were OK if you came early enough. If you came during the last hour most of the stuff was gone. There are a lotSmall local all the style hotels around in the neighborhood for $20-$30 less. The one thing this hotel has it going is its location. It is the closest place that you can stay when you get off the ferry. But I do not recommend staying there. There are other options that are much much better and actually are a lot cheaper.
What were they thinking? Totally ridiculous!!

Quaint and historic
The building itself is magnificent and it really feels like you're in history. The staff are incredible - so friendly and helpful. I told them it was my husband's birthday and they sent up a cake to the room <3 The room itself was cute and traditional with a lovely little balcony. The only issue was the bathroom layout - not very easy to fit into and the shower had no screen so you couldn't help make a mess. This may have only been our room though - bigger rooms were probably better. Breakfast was also ok - being vegetarian it didnt have a great selection for me but it was fine. The location is great - I mean, Stonetown is not big but this is an ideal location as it is right next to ferry terminal.
