Exactly what we needed after a long flight from Seattle. Modest rooms but comfy beds. The food in the restaurant was incredibly delicious! Four of us ordered different items for dinner and breakfast and everything was superb. Staff was friendly and service was quick.

Room was a little dark and outdated but spacious and clean with one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. Staff were helpful and pleasant. Nothing fundamentally wrong with anything at the Cat and Lion, it just left me with a sense of everything being cut down to a price. No staff in the hotel lobby but clear directions to let you know to check in at the pub. Food range was limited. I went for the fresh baked pizza. It was severely lacking in toppings and felt overpriced. The breakfast had tinned mushrooms, the thinnest slice of black pudding I have ever seen (less than one centimetre thick) which meant it was overcooked and tough as a biscuit. The rest of the dish was okay, reasonably cooked and tasty enough, just felt that someone was cutting corners. As I say, nothing fundamentally wrong, just a bit underwhelming. It was a striking contrast to my stay the following night at the Grantham Arms in Boroughbridge, which was superb and for a difference of £2 overall.

Unfortunately was checked into a disabled room without consultation, which was a bit awkward as mirror was set about 4ft and i,m 6ft tall also sink had no plug

Comfortable blast fromvthe past
If yo enjoyed staying in Premier Inn arround the year 2000,thenvyou will love this Hotel. Once you enter your room you find it is exactly an old style Preminn,with original ligh,heating an pictures. This having been said, It was ckean and comfortable . There was also excellent food served at the pub.

Breakfast and Dinner in the adjoining pub is great, couldn’t fault the quality or price. Rooms are a bit tired, but for the price adequate if you just want a bed for the night.
