nb We did NOT stay at Club Karey. They had stopped doing all-inclusive so sent us to Club Tropical closer to town. All responses apply to Club Tropical not Club Karey.

The day I arrived I was told that I need it true print the boucher. They asked me $100 deposit and go to the next town to have it printed in order to do that I had to take a taxi in a taxi back close the fees off having the boucher print it. I told him I had already paid and I did not have any money on me so they surrender my passport Anto I printed the boucher. Even though I had a screenshot of my reservation in confirmation they have me going next town to print it. I told the lady that the reason I use Expedia was to paid ahead and not having to worry about anyting when I once I got to the hotel but instead of enjoying my vacation I have to go around looking for a place to print something that they already had. I honestly do not understand how Expedia list a property like this I am very, very disappointed.

It was a very sad, dilapidated group of buildings, mess and construction with a handful of guests. it’s like they are desperate to keep a dead place alive, there was entertainment and only 4 people there. dinner was extremely depressing, and that’s not to mention the food :-( I think they didn’t bother opening for lunch because we went by a few times and it was still closed. Limited drinks. bars open and close with no rhyme or reason. when we Arrived they wanted us to get a taxi somewhere to print the confirmation and then pay a huge deposit (even though we could show confirmation showing our payment)- apparently they don’t have internet and someone hadn’t included our booking. We had no money left so they took our passports in the end and we had to follow up the next day to get them back even though this was not our fault or problem. All in all a Very sad place to go.

Good Value Varadero
Overall a good value hotel in Varadero. We stayed in the far west end of the property near the pay-as-you-go Punta Blanca bar. A long walk to the dining hall for anyone very old or infirm but the bellboy has a large cart for shuttle service & luggage. Check-in is a problem if without a printed copy of your booking confirmation. There is no wifi anywhere to send it. Can’t book in only with it on your mobile screen. The front desk woman is lovely & helpful but the check-in system made this lack of a printed booking my problem to solve. Food is good enough. I’ll stay there again.

Very traumatic check in, my reservation was not at the hotel suppously. After they made me wait at the sun for about 3 hours( because I was not allow to stay at the lobby) the comercial manager came out and told me they were not getting the emails with the reservations and she really sorry but the only way to let me check in was to pay out of pocket. My brother had spend over 3 hours with orbitz at the phone to solve the problem. Food was ok but not many options. The only was at night was at the lobby but no beers. Next time I will spend more money but definitely I will not stay at a place like this hotel

This place is pretty much a dump. It was a mistake. I would be really worried about the hygiene of the kitchen. Definitely not worth the money you save.

A place of horror
I’ve been to Cuba a dozen times and I’m not a picky person, but this was the worst place in Cuba, if not the planet. There was garbage all over the grass on the grounds, the beach had glass everywhere, only 4 beach umbrellas and 5 broken chairs. The room smelled like mold and there was no hot water during our whole stay. The buffet was horrible, the “eggs” had shells in them, dead flies and cockroaches in the pasta, no cappuccinos, cola was always warm, we ate only bread. Upon check in, they demanded a printout of our reservation, which we had on our phones and would not check us in until we gave them printouts of it. There is no WiFi on the resort and no computer so we spent 4 hours trying to find a printer in Varadero... many other guests had the same problem. The walkways had potholes with stagnant water in them, cigarette butts every inch of the resort, the tables haven’t been wiped in weeks, a girl about 10 years old worked the bar, they didn’t want to give you more fries at the snack bar, if you already had some- even though the fries were the only edible thing on the resort. Bed bugs in the beds, the room smelled horrible... This is where vacations go to die... please... stay somewhere else , please!!! I wouldn’t go back if I was payed to...

The pool and the sport area looked clean to me. The room was a bit defreshed, but really.. the main point is the restaurant and drinks. I would have apprecaited a better/refreshed inside for the cafeteria, but most of all, an All inclusive may include choices of drinks other than a fake pina colada and a cola. No juices, no coco, no chance to consume any local product in any of the bars or restaurant. The wine is an old acid grape juice while the beer is not really a reference neither. Only after 10 pm, the bar provides tins of beer that are really great. Restaurants.. other than the pool area, with such a location, an outside cafeteria would be an amazing deal for breakfast/diner rather that half filled room dark in the need of re paint with some light.. . That said, the waiters and receptionists were really nice and smily, ready to arrange any situation. With a little bit of progress in restaurants/drinks.. This hotel would have a great potential.
