Hi Edwin, unfortunately we were not the owners or managers of this house when you stayed there but, since then, we are now the owners and have made some major upgrades and improvements! Please come and visit!

I’m always sad by reviews like this because it’s never our intention or desire for someone to have a bad experience. I’ve been told I shouldn’t be in this business because it probably matters too much to me. That being said, I can’t speak to Myrna’s claim that the house wasn’t clean to her satisfaction because that’s her opinion. All I can do is speak to the facts of the situation. When Myrna booked she told me right off the bat that other homes cleanliness had let her down. I have high cleanliness expectations too, so I made a note for my cleaner that this would be a big deal for her and to take even more time than usual. As a side note- I used to have a vacation management company and have been through dozens of cleaners. Finding someone with as high of standards as mine is difficult. This cleaner has been with me for over 8 years and I’m the only one she now cleans for. Cleaning issues with her are an anomaly. My cleaner also lives on Vilano too so she can come immediately if there are issues which is what happened in this case. Right after checking in Myrna said “Beautiful home. Thank you for letting us stay. If is no bother we are in need of a mop.” I told her where our steam mop was and asked her if someone needed to come mop again. She said she didn’t want a steam mop, she wanted a mop and bucket. So I ordered a mop and bucket and had my cleaning person take it to her and address all of her concerns, including help her learn how to use the TVs, which she was adamant were not working. A little later she said the grill, that my cleaner had already cleaned, was still dirty. At this point I was confused. My cleaner and I had spoken on the phone and she specifically mentioned the grill. I asked Myrna to send me a picture so I could see what was going on. At this point Myrna said she had already cleaned it herself, and hence, I assume, couldn’t send me a picture. Then later Myrna asked us to refund her $450 for the issues and because she didn’t have a clean grill and needed to buy new food. Again I was confused because my cleaner specifically told me it was clean and then Myrna said she had cleaned it. At the end of the day we apologized and offered money back but Myrna was not happy with the amount. We’re always saddened by experiences like these but are so grateful they are rare!

So happy you guys had a fun girls getaway and the house worked well for you, that’s what I love to hear!! We get a ton of big groups like yours and it makes me so happy to be part of people’s fun memories! So sorry the beach reconstruction was going on. This is a temporary project, but it does make it so guests can’t park in the Surfside beach parking lot. Guests can still walk (it’s a 5-7 min walk) and access the beach from Surfside park (some guests have been really happy because there are no crowds since only the locals have access now without the public parking lots). For guests that want to drive I know all the local access points you can park and walk and can help you or there is a parking lot with walkover just two minutes north. For guests that are worried about crossing the A1A to get to the beach, this walkover is a great access point. I lived here for several years and had five kids ages 2-16 and we crossed A1A several times a week with our beach gear. It’s an easy road to cross but definitely kids shouldn’t do it without older people with them. Lastly we do have multiple restaurants on Vilano. Caps on the Water is A MUST, especially at sunset. People also love Beaches because it’s right on the beach and kids can play while you wait to eat (kids can also play on the sand while you dine at Aunt Kate’s and Caps) . Not a ton of restaurants here but I can count at least 8 within 2-3 mins right on Vilano with you. We do have a mixed use shopping/restaurant area under construction right now too (wahoo). Most of your shopping however is going to be downtown (though we do have a surf shop on Vilano next to the grocery store). Downtown is a 7-10 min drive. Hope this additional info helps.

While you can walk to the beach, it’s only a few blocks and takes about 5-6 mins to walk, we find a lot of our guests that are hauling a bunch of toys and gear would rather make the 1 min drive instead! Those are the same reasons we bought and actually lived in this house for a time: it’s huge and we could spread out, it’s so close to downtown and walking distance to the beach, a few mins drive to the store and restaurants and has the pool and hot tub! Oh my goodness I’m so surprised by this review. I have no texts, emails, or communication from you on Vrbo as to the safety or maintenance concerns you voiced in this review. In fact, we didn’t even hear from you during your stay from what I can see. We have a pool gate that can be installed or taken down for guests with the pool. Beyond a pool, which presents a known risk to anyone, I can’t even think of how this place is unsafe but will definitely be reaching out. We do live on a small street with gorgeous homes selling for almost a million dollars across from us. We lived there ourselves for about a year and have never seen or heard of a crime there, not even bikes getting stolen. Those are the only things I can think of when I’m analyzing if a place is safe to stay with my five kids. We are constantly buying new things to decorate the house and my maintenance guy is my cleaners husband who has been working for me for eight years and lives one minute away. I used to run a property management business and have worked with dozens of cleaners and maintenance people and there’s a reason these guys work directly for me and get paid well- I wanted the best.

We have a 100% satisfaction guarantee on our cleaning and at any point during your stay would have immediately sent in our cleaners or maintenance people to address any issues, no questions asked! Since we allowed you to check in a day early before the rest of your family, and gave you more than 50% off a night’s stay, we were surprised you didn’t reach out with any of these complaints until after check out when you asked for money back. At that point we couldn’t resolve any of your complaints so that you and your family could have a more satisfactory experience. I’m so sorry and sincerely wish we would have had the opportunity to address these things for you! Both myself and my cleaner lives less than five minutes away and could have easily come over to help you in any way possible had we known. Your happiness and comfort during your stay is of utmost importance and we work very hard to do everything we can to meet and EXCEED your expectations during your stay! Quick note for future guests in response to the items mentioned in this review: -We do sometimes leave condiments in the fridge for others to use and not have to repurchase, guests are of course welcome to throw those out if desired. -The microwave spots that pictures were sent of are actually discolorations on the microwave, the microwave is cleaned each time with disinfectant spray and even after we bleached those discolorations in response to the photos, they were still there. -We have changed the lightbulbs that had burned out, as a sidetone we do leave lightbulbs in the laundry room should a bulb burn out during a guest’s stay and we can always come and change those out if we know as well. -The hole in the wall was a panel door in a closet that had been taken down and has since been rehung. -The vent cover was taken down and cleaned, it should have been cleaned by my cleaner beforehand— we have added this to our weekly cleaning checklist to check for. -We do have a lot of technology wires for wifi/tech in a bottom corner of the decorative cabinets in the living room. We try to keep it as nice looking as possible and have decorated all other shelves, but unfortunately it can be tough to make the tech look great and we don’t want to cover it up so guests can see where the routers and modems are if needed.
