"The pictures on Expedia and their website do not do justice to this place. It is a very impressive working winery and the rooms are well appointed. Breakfast and dinner in the restaurant were excellent though service was mixed when it was busy. My only complaint is that the ‘smoking area’ for diners is close to the outdoor terrace and with the prevailing wind it meant that you could smell and taste the cigaretttes at that end of the terrace - not pleasant when you are not used to it. I heard a number of diners complain about it. (Please move the smoking area, as it would make a very good experience perfect!) I would also recommend the walks around the vineyards that are described in the information booklet - though the red route is very steep up, the views are worth it."

"Amazing stay at this family run vineyard. It’s hard to describe what a wonderful, special place this is. The rooms are modern and thoughtfully designed with a comfy bed. The owners are incredible hosts and we had delicious breakfasts every day. We also had a wonderful dinner one night. The location is about 20 minute drive from Pinhao up one of the most scenic drives in the area. It is up a winding road, high up in the hills but it really is worth the drive. At the owners suggestion we did the 2 hour walk down to Pinhao and it was some of the most incredible scenery we’ve seen walking through vineyards. We visited vineyards and took a taxi back. The owner also makes delicious wines and port. Stay here, for an incredible experience. "

"If you have a car, and have the good fortune to be traveling in the Douro Valley, this place is not to be missed. It is a bit hard to get to, but well worth the effort. Fantastic setting, beautiful rooms and amenities, and 5-star service. This is a family-run guesthouse, and Maria knows the area, the history, the products, and the hospitality business. Just a gem. I regret that I didn’t build in a day just to relax, visit one or 2 of the nearby (5 minute drive) wineries, and relax by the pool with the spectacular view of the Valley. Casa do Santo receives my highest recommendation. "
