The location was perfect for us! The apartment also fit our needs perfectly. The people there were not as responsive as we needed during the off hours. We found they were not always at the desk upstairs during their advertised business hours. Text messages took some time to get responses and can be difficult for travelers that do not have texting capabilities overseas. The instructions we received in the apartment advertised they would clean every three days, but they only supplied us with fresh towels and removed garbage. They did not clean the entire apartment or change the sheets.

Great location but it was hard to figure out where the pension is since it is on the 5th floor. I received instructions by email saying my key would be placed in a locker at the front door of the building but unfortunately there was none. Otherwise, the place is fine and we had a good time. Friendly and helpful staff.

Good value, clean room
We arrived after midnight but we received instructions of how to pick up our keys from the safety box. Unfortunately, when we reach the floor where the pension is there was a couple of ladies camping at the front of our door. They told us they weren’t able to retrieve their key and that they couldn’t communicate with the management as they weren’t picking the phone. The room and bathroom were spacious, and clean. It can get quite warm during the summer, I’d recommend adding a fan for this purpose. We didn’t have face to face contact with the front desk at any point. Just a warning for picky people, the lift is super old and at night time the entrance and lift area aren’t properly illuminated so it can look a little bit creepy. I will return as it is perfectly located with walking distance to all the touristic area and it was a good value for money.

Try to find another hotel
This hotel wasn't the best experience. It was quite hard to find. The woman at the front desk was incredibly rude! The short time she is there she also does her best to ignore you. We were there in July when it was very warm. The rooms are in an attic and are very hot and there is no air conditioning. The only windows are a couple in the ceiling. We couldn't even open those most of the time as it rained a lot. I was very uncomfortable! Also, what I found very annoying was the towel situation. We were allotted one "bath" towel for our 3 day stay. This towel was not much bigger than a hand towel. You don't even get a hand towel for the sink!. When I asked the woman at the desk for a hand towel, she "informed" me that we only got one towel per person, and that if we wanted a hand towel it would cost us 1 Euro (as would be any extra towel). I have stayed at a lot of very basic hotels, but have never encountered that type of annoying situation. I don't need new a new towel every day, but no hand towel! Such penny pinching is really crazy!

Staff is worst in the world
Staff kick us out if arrive before check in time 2pm, and staff only work 08:30~11:00, so they really don't want to see the guest, and of course can not get map or any information, and some key don't have room number, so need to knock and try every door to find your room.. The room is tiny without any fan, 2 ceiling window only, can't stay room in the day time. Small Breakfast is 08:30~09:30 only, check out time is 09:30, and of course is forbidden to leave luggage after check out..!!!!

Fantastic location, but some condition issues
This is a decent studio apartment in an extremely convenient location. Everywhere in the Old Town is walkable giving you access to its wealth of museums, theatres and concert halls as well as restaurants, bars and other attractions. The main station is around 20 minutes walk and the castle around half an hour, so again walkable, but there is also a tram stop right outside the door of the apartment block if you don't fancy the exercise. There are a few drawbacks - the studio is in the roof and there is no elevator, so you have to carry your luggage up 129 stairs under your own steam - service here is very light touch with no porter and reception only operating limited hours. Also, if you are a light sleeper I would not recommend this place. There are no shutters, only Venetian blinds, and these do not descend the full length of the window and in any case are broken so that the slats cannot be rotated. This means that the apartment cannot be made dark, even at night (streetlight streams in) and if it is summer you are likely to be woken by the sun at around 5. The bracket fixing the shower in place is broken so you cannot stand under a constant stream, but have to hold the shower head in order to wash. Overall we had a good stay, and the issues I have mentioned were not big problems for us, though I imagine they would be for some others.

Easy check-in and a great location. Breakfast was yogurt, bread, butter, cheese (basic), and coffee or tea. I liked the room but the other person didn't like it because there was no fan (Hotels.com said there was in the description). It was a little hot at night (summer time - it's expected). Fan would have made a huge difference.

Arrived at 2am and was apprehensive about accessing the keys from the black box (after reading some reviews about it being difficult). It wasn't difficult at all, we quickly got our keys and the room was a lot better than expected. Would highly recommend.

Nice simple and pleasant hotel in the old town, 5 minutes from the city centre. The area around the hotel is also excellent, old buildings, supermarket, tram and bus stop etc. The guests were mainly young people, students, travellers and they are loud.

Bedroom and breakfast good, bathroom not too much
The hotel itself has a strange schedule to staff presence (just until the 13h30 you can ask for something, after that there is anyone in the reception). Because of it, the time to checkout is too early (10h00). About the building (the hotel is on the 5th floor), the lift was a little frightful because has an old-fashioned working system (what is beyond the competence of the hotel, we know, but it's a fact), what makes the "trip" an adventure. We missed more wallsockets in the bedroom (for example, there was a microwave oven above the wardrobe but the only socket nearby was close to the floor; so every time we needed to use it, we had to take it from that place and put it above a chair or directly on the floor). In the bathroom, the bath cubicle had huge leaks, getting all the bathroom floor quite wet, what compelled us to use our flip flops inside the bathroom all the time. The bed was big and comfortable and the breakfast, that was really tasting and enough, was served in the room.

I have stayed in worse places
I booked the studio with balcony for three nights. We received an email a couple of days before telling us about check in. We arrived at the doors and the mysterious boxes and pinned in the numbers I had been sent, so we could collect out key out of it. We tried the numbers several times, but they wouldn't go in and eventually the box locked itself and we then had a ten minute wait until we could try again. We tried the numbers again, to no success. We text the phone number we had been given to tell them and they replied after around five minutes, sending us a completely different number than the one we had been sent in the email. We collected out envelope containing our key and map and went on to the apartment. Our first concern was when we reached the floor of the apartment was that we needed our room key to open the main door to the room, meaning that everyone in all the rooms have the same key. We then went to our studio, but when we opened the door we just had a room. No balcony, no facilities, just a room with two beds, a table and a bathroom. I text the number again and informed them of this, after about fifteen minutes they replied telling me their studio had no water and was out of use. (I'm interested to know if this happens regularly) I checked my emails and I had received no notification of this, there was no note in the room either. The message said, I can either take the room, or I can leave. I'm sure it wasn't meant to sound as rude as it did.

The location is good but horrrrible staff & hotel
The receptionist was so horrible she was rude and on the phone constantly and did not bother to help us out in anything. The breakfast is one piece of cheese one piece of butter and one piece of jam with bread and yogurt. The room smelled very rotten. The hotel staff leave at 1 pm. Check out is at 10 am!! They knock ur door and ask u to leave! U can only keep ur luggage there until 1 pm and u get scolded for it. NEVER AGAINNNNN yuck!

Get the Art Deco Suite
This review applies to one room only, the Art Deco suite. It is an older, two room suite. Clean and spacious. Beds for four, with two single hide-a-beds tucked away if needed. On the third floor of an older building, with an elevator that belongs in a museum. If you are not familiar with older buildings in Eastern and Central Europe, this Pension might not be to your taste. But if you like a huge amount of room, with a full kitchen (including clothes washer!) this is the place.

Avoid.
Couldn't even figure out how to get in, couldn't contact anyone, not happy. After walking up 15 flights of stairs with lots of luggage on a hot day because the ancient lift didn't work and finding there was no one to be seen anywhere around we completely gave up and went and found somewhere else to stay. Best decision of my whole trip around Europe to be honest. Wouldn't recommend this hostel to an enemy. Don't think Wotif should even advertise it...

Not bad for a short stay
The hotel is not a bad choice for a short stay in Prague mainly due to its great location and low prices during off-season. Room was ok. Shortcomings were: no internet connection, torn towels, non-functional remote controller and wet floor in the washroom. Also, it was quite uncomfortable when we realized that we could open our room with the same key we used to open main entrance. Practically, any other resident could open our door with his key.

Good location, but dirty and horrible service
The only plus of this place is its central location. The minuses far outweigh the pluses, which made the whole experience horrible. Very very bad wi-fi. It's very noisy in the room because of the main road. The room is dirty - thick layer of dust inside the radiator and ventilator in the shower room. Bed linen are old and musty smelling. The shower holder is broken and taped with a celotape. There is a kettle in the room but no mugs provided. TV shows only 4 Czech channels, but 2 of them don't have proper sound. And the worst 'feature' of this Pension is their receptionist. I've never met a more unhelpful, rigid, almost 'Soviet Union' style receptionist. For example, they provide a very small breakfast to the room. You have to go to the reception every morning and ask for your breakfast. When I asked the receptionist if I could have my breakfast at 9am every day, she said 'no'. When I asked why, she said that;s the way they do things here. When I came to her in the morning, she made a point of not replying to me initially and make me wait for whatever she was doing first. Of course, she did not have the printer and of course, she didn't know where I could find an internet cafe. The most unhelpful horrible receptionist ever. For those who state that you get what you pay for, well, I moved afterwards to the Old Rubicon Pension just 5 min away. The price is the same, but what a difference in everything - clean bed linen, quiet, good wi-fi and a friendly service..

Adequate for sleeping
We shared this small apartment with the couple we were traveling with. It comfortably sleeps four with one double bed in a separate room. This building is very old and definitely has character. The apartment is spacious and has a little kitchen area. The furniture in the room was all antiques and did not match at all. The bathroom was okay, but it was hard to get the shower to stay at one comfortable temperature. The towels are small and very thin--if I would suggest anything to this place, it would be to replace their towels. Overall, it was fine for the little amount of time we spent there. It was close to the Old Town area. One thing, it did say that breakfast was provided, and that turned out to be untrue. You had to notify them in advance if you wanted breakfast, but we got there late and did not know that, so went up in the morning only to be told that there was no breakfast. That was a little frustrating because it was one of the reasons I chose this apartment. I wouldn't not recommend it, but just don't have high expectations.

For Extreme Budgeters
Not recommended for a honeymoon stay, which was the reason for our trip. It's the top floor of a sketchy looking building with the world's scariest elevator. Front desk only operates a few hours in the morning so you're on your own for a late check in. There's mediocre WiFi and breakfast consisting of odd spreads (foie gras, cheese, jams), odd assorted bread (we got weird loaves which we later found cost only $0.10 Canadian at the grocery store each), odd yoghurt (kiwi flavoured. seriously?), and a flavoured wafer (we got coconut and nut flavoured) with coffee or tea. Any breakfast is a good way to start your day though, and it was appreciated, and it's delivered to your room if you request it. Bed was not comfortable. Toilet cleaning liquid was squirted into the toilet and then left there to harden but never scrubbed out. Oh, and you are only allowed one towel per person- no hand towels, or a bath mat (and the shower leaked). We requested another and were refused. But the location is excellent, quite short walk to everything. If you aren't spending much time in the hotel, have a low budget, and are brave, I'd recommend.

Decent hotel
It's a decent hotel for the price, right in the Old Town, a few blocks from Old Town Square. The cleaning staff were a little pushy about getting us out of the room to cean when all they did is empty the trash and put in clean towels. It is a bit hard to find and hard to work the entry system. It is not marked from the street and you have to figure out on your own where to go. And hey only stay on site till 1:30, after that you have to get the key from a code system then figure out how to open it which is a bit of a pain after finding the place and traveling all day. Overall, for the price it is not a bad place to stay, as long as your not looking for hotel amenities etc.. The staff are nice but their use of English is a bit limited. If you are traveling to Prague and want to stretch you money then this is a decent place to stay.

Average, basic hotel
Platan is a very basic hotel, located on the 5th floor of a building (with a very old, rickety lift!) with about 8 rooms. Location is good - only a 5-10 minute walk to the old town sqaure. The staff were quite unfriendly and unhelpful, and although the room we stayed in was quite spacious, the bed was extremely uncomfortable and breakfast wasn't anything very special (some slices of bread and preserves given on a tray to eat in your room. Not a bad hotel, but I wouldn't stay again - it's more of a hostel really.

We arived after 1:30 PM. and the pension manager had left for the day. We had to get the key from a secured locked box with a code which was emailed to us. It was a little confusing for us. This was our first experience with this kind of situation. Nevertheless, once we found our room, we were delighted with what we found. The interior definitely looked better than the exterior of the building. The morning breakfast was a nice treat with cofffee, orange juice, wafers, bread, pate, cheese, butter, and jams. The pension manager worked quickly to get our food to us at our requested time. The location was convenient to attractions in Old Town. Near a large shopping mall which included Alberts Supermarket.

Good location, good price
Was pretty easy to get to from a major metro station. Step in quality from a hostel but more amenities and privacy like a hotel. Had to pay in Euros the morning after arrival. The room (#1) had a water boiler and microwave in the room, and offered a community refrigerator in the main hall. Only 2 complaints about the room were they "comfy" chair that look dirty and the shower head did not have a post to mount it so had to hold it throughout the whole shower. The free breakfast in the morning consisted of bread with many spreads (butter, jelly, cheese, honey, some meat like spread) with yogurt and coffee. There were no TV channels in English, maybe 5 or 6, on an older style TV. There was also no AC so had to open the windows during the night. Awoke in the morning to lots of street noise. Overall, I feel it was worth the cost and had no major complaints. I would stay there again if I wanted a less expensive option.

Functional Appartment
We stayed in Apartment 11, a self contained two bedroom apartment with bathroom and kitchen/lounge area. The room was in good condition and we were right on the doorstep of all of the attractions. Breakfast was provided for us in our fridge for the duration of the stay. I would definitely recommend for those who are more into 'travelling' than 'holidaying' as it was ideal, excellently priced and completely functional. Those looking for a romantic get away or people who are not of the get up and go persuasion may do better to stay in one of the Platan's hotel rooms as they offered conditions more suited to package holiday junkies!
